Arvin Says Hi

Postby Arvin » Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:05 pm

I guess I'll start with a fairly standard introduction post.

Please call me Arvin. I'm a business student hailing from a little known country in South East Asia where we eat bats, crickets, and all sorts of other interesting things, and our version of spaghetti is too sweet for a lot of people's tastes. It's called the Philippines. I'm a fundamental Evangelist, for those who wish to know my 'denomination', and we conduct our Bible studies in a classroom-y method at home, due to our use of Hermeneutics.

I've actually known of this board for a while now, but I haven't really paid much attention to it, due to my focus on business studies, and running a Fate/Stay Night roleplaying forum that I have effectively been head admin of for a little over a year now (the Root is so inactive she might as well not be there).

The reason I've showed up only now might seem contrived, or perhaps selfish, but I guess it could just be circumstances. My heart aches as certain people use our chatroom to badmouth the Lord. Faiths in general, but He gets the most flak, as usual in these kinds of discussions. Due to the nature of the setting, these things are unavoidable for the sake of roleplaying discussion, but sometimes, they just take it completely out of context. I've tried to keep a neutral stance, but I feel like one more of those will have me burst into tears and do something rash.

They say that you are the average of the five people you spend most time with. I believe that, and so, I wish to associate with brethren who share similar interests, in hopes that I can cope with the pain. Admittedly, over the years, I have become more of an intellectual Christian rather than a practising one, and so I have become more vulnerable to attacks.

I hope that I can contribute something to the community. :)

Welcome! I'm an American living in Japan as a missionary/English teacher, and I actually have some Filipino friends. One of my friends is a Filipino man who married a Japanese woman and they come to our church with their 3 daughters.

I know the need for Christian companionship, and I especially know how much it hurts when people badmouth my Jesus. It used to make me angry, but now it just makes me really sad, and I pray for them and for the day when they will see and love Jesus for who He is.

So welcome! I hope CAA can help you recharge and be a safe haven for you to recuperate your faith. :)

Hey, welcome to CAA! Hope you enjoy it here. I'm somewhat new to my faith so I tend to get angry/upset when I hear/read about people bad mouthing Jesus to. I don't get what the point behind it is. It must make God very sad these people are filled with so much hate.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

NIV, Romans 8:38-39.

Jesus did say we have to be ready for being persecuted. He was persecuted too. That's what I always tell myself. Still doesn't make it any less wrong, though. Sad thing is, it's become kind of the in thing to attack Christians, thanks to media attacks.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys! I'm feeling better already. Reminds me of a Psalm I recently read. It's sad that in the distractions of the world, I seem to have forgotten the exact words and the exact passage, but it said something about how the Lord refreshes the soul.

It's not good old Psalm 23, but then again, I shouldn't be saying which is 'good old' and which isn't, just because it's the basic stuff they taught me in Sunday School, ahaha...

Anyway, I've been looking around this section a bit, and it seems that the in thing here is to make your intro thread sort of a Q&A or interview. In that case, I'm ready to answer any little questions.

I was supposed to post this eight hours ago, but my connection seemed to have gone chonky at the time. Oh well...

Hey there! warm welcome, hope you have fun and feel free to ask any question that arises!
And this I pray, that your love would abound still, more and more with real knowledge and all discernment. Be prepared to preach the gospel at a moment's notice. Do you know the gospel well enough to do so yourself? Be ready.

@K. Just Tagalog. Father is from the Tagalog region, and my mother from Panggasinan, but she hasn't taught me that dialect.
@Shoo: Salamat. :)

@ABlip: Thanks again.

@FllMtl Novelist

Anime? Quite a few, actually... I'm the sort of guy who doesn't name a particular favourite because of my personality type, so I'll name stuff from the top of my head in no particular order:

Fate/Stay Night (I don't run an RP based on it for nothing) and most of Nasu's stuff, if I'll ever get to read them
FMA Brotherhood
Code Geass
Death Note (until that certain part where everybody disliked it)
Suzumiya Haruhi
Gurren Lagann
Nanoha
DBZ Kai (though I didn't mind the filler of the original that much either)
Digimon Tamers

Games:
Anything involving strategy and commanding units. Special mentions include Civilisation
StarCraft
CnC
Dune
Advance Wars

The occasional RPG, though I never really played them that much. You can imagine how out of place I'd be when everybody's talking Final Fantasy and Shin Megami Tensei.

Read: Yeah, I don't mind reading. In fact, I'm trying to finish a speed reading program so I can read more. And of course the Word is the best thing anybody can read. I especially enjoy studying scripture passages on Sundays.

Write: It's my goal in life to author a successful Light Novel Series (or maybe Visual Novel, that's cool too). My co-author and I are currently in the stage of world-building it. For practise, I roleplay a lot. Or at least try to, since nowadays, I can't seem to find my muse. Even if I do have it, there's just a bit too many new people joining our site on a regular basis that I have to read over their profiles and help correct errors and the like. I really wish I had more time to write.

Draw: Back when I was in gradeschool, I drew cartoony amateur comics. But that's about it. I'd rather hire an artist to do my LN work, ahaha.

Instrument: I played a lyre back in gradeschool. Aaaaand... that's about it. Though I'd like to learn bagpipes and violins.

Welcome to CAA! It's really nice to meet another Filipino. I hope you enjoy it here.:)
Whatever the season in life, the RIGHT attitude makes all the difference.

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth."
Psalm 121:1-2

"Though our paths may have diverged, you must continue to live out your life with all your might; you must never consider your own life to be something insignificant, and you must never forget about the friends whom you loved for as long as you live."
The Third Rule of Fairy Tail

"Mistakes are not shackles that halt one from stepping forward. Rather, they are that which sustain and grow one's heart.

Yo! And welcome to the boards. We've been having a lot of interesting discussions lately that have perked my interest both spiritually and mentally. It would be awesome to see you're opinion on them sometime, if we're allowed to keep them up!
