I've got a bit of a story to go with this... so sit back (I don't ever seem to be short on these things
)
I wasn't much of a fan of Digimon/Pokemon when they where very popular years ago (this would be before the Orange Island series of Pokemon where being aired by WB), however I started watching Pokemon as part of research for one of those "Pokemon is evil and will suck your kids down into the netherworld in a swirling vortex of death" type articles.
Anyway... got hooked (somewhat) on Pokemon (to the point of watching both shows every day and keeping up with the new ones on the weekend)... but I thought of Digimon as a bad copy of Pokemon (and didn't bother giving it more than 5 min. of my time).
Then one day it happened... I turned on the TV, with nothing better to do, layed back on the couch (I think I might have been sick at the time) and started watching... turned on Digimon, and started watching it (was waiting for DBZ or something to come on at the time)... turns out it was the 1st show (I missed about 5-10 min of it).... they ran 2 shows a day back-to-back and I watched both... and started watching them every day.
This went on for both the original and the 2nd season... and toward the end of the 2nd season they started running ads for the new 3rd season that would be comming up (1st time it would be shown).
Then it happened... the station that was showing this was the local WB station (if memory serves me correctly) and they decided to not show the fox programming anymore (at the same time, my local Fox affiliate doesn't run any childrens programming at all, not any of the Fox Kids or the current Fox Box stuff). This change would be happening right before the new series would start.
That was about 2-3 years ago. In the last year or so, the local UPN station was running the Digimon shows, I found it quite by accident one afternoon and immediatly set a daily program on my VCR. I started watching again, but didn't pay real close attention, I was waiting for the series to repeat so I could catch it all... I do remember they had "cards" to power up their Digimon... maybe one of you experts would know better which season that is.
They didn't repeat, but went into a new season of Digimon... this one didn't have pairups of Digimon and human children... rather the children got the "spirits" of Digimon heros and became them... again, I don't have a reference to the season number.....
I say all this to say that I didn't care as much for the last one I saw, the one before that was interesting (I think that one may have been season 3), but without having seen most of it, I didn't have any real reference point to work from.
The 1st two seasons where good.... I got sucked into them real quick-like and they held my attention for quite a while, so I'd have to say that those would be my favoriates.
Just as an interesting side-note (as if my post isn't long and drawn out enough)... the woman who does the voice for Kari in the 1st two seasons went to my High School (but graduated like 2 years ahead of me). Sadly I didn't know her (though I saw her a few times at the school).
Ok, I'm done now, you all can wake up.
