Yotsuba&! v.3

Postby soul alive » Mon Oct 17, 2005 9:09 pm

WARNING: spoilers to follow

Yotsuba&! v.3 came out this month. ^_^ I really love this series, the humor is just so great. Though I didn't find this volume as funny overall as the other two, *shrug* don't know why.

Poor Jumbo, he really should learn not to have Yotsuba ask girls out for him...

I've only read the first three chapters so far. All I'm saying is I can really identify with Jumbo.

I saw an interesting advertisement from ADV for Yotsuba&. The tag line was The hit anime is also an ongoing manga series. Interesting, don't you think. This appears to be a simple mistake, unless ADV knows something the rest of the world doesn't.

That HAS to be a mistake. There is no released Yotsuba&! anime, so it's simply not possible for it to be a "hit." It is true there's been considerable pressure on ADV to help finance a Yotsuba&! anime, though. So, perhaps this is a veiled announcement of sorts, even if the terminology is flawed. Hmmm. . .

Personally, I thought this one was hillarious. Especially the "No stealing" frame. I was absolutely dying when I read that.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Poor Shao. *gives cookie*

I read it through pretty quickly (was procrastinating from doing homework, ^^;;;) so don't really remember typos exactly, but I do recall there being a few spots that I was like 'huh?'

While it was hilarious, it wasn't as constantly funny, IMO, I didn't laugh as often as I did during the other two. There were some more serious (serious for this series ^^) spots that made me go 'awww' like when Yotsuba gave the older couple flowers. But I laughed my face off at the funny stuff, especially all the fireworks stuff... When Yotsuba showed Asagi's friend the firework going off on her car, wahahaha. And the festival with the fish and balloon catching. *wipes tear of laughter from eye*

Does anyone know how many volumes will be in this series?

And I can't wait for the anime... if I laugh this hard at the manga... actually seeing some of the crazy stuff animated... wooo, can't wait. X3

vol.4 came out in Japan on 8/27 and the latest chapter in magazines is #30 or 31. ADV hasnt even announced when #4 will hit the US but it might not be until spring.

I just finished this volume last night. I enjoyed it just as much as the others. I think my favorite part was Yotsuba's run in with the policewoman.

I have to say that Kiyohiko Azuma has come a long way in both his artwork and storylines, even since Azumanga Daioh. The character interaction in Yotsuba is great.

Has anyone else noticed the little Yotsubas on the spine of each volume? Theyre so cute ^^

I bought it Sunday (along with Vol. 2). While I like it, I don't think that anything will top the "Yotsuba & Revenge chapter. The flower cupid chapter was pretty good, and I liked when Yotsuba met Mr. Ayase.

And Rev, I thought the mangaka was a girl? I could be wrong, as I often am

I'm pretty sure he's a he. Anyway, here's a bio I found:

Kiyohiko Azuma was born on May 27th, 1968. He is a mangaka (manga artist) and his most well-known work is Azumanga Daioh. His other works include Yotsuba to! and several Tenchi Muyo doujinshi.
Kiyohiko's style of manga art is very unique. It's different from shoujou and shounen styles of manga, and his original works are based on reality in the normal world, instead of sci-fi, fantasy, or futuristic plots.

His characters all have very unique and well-developed personalites, and that's how the plot is usually created in his stories.

His Works:

- Azumanga Daioh (manga) : Story & Art
- Azumanga Daioh (TV) : Original Manga
- Azumanga Daioh - The Very Short Movie : Original Manga
- Azumanga Recycle (manga) : Story & Art
- Azumanga Web Daioh (ONA) : Original Manga
- Kiyohiko Azuma Sakuhinshu: Azumanga (manga) : Story & Art
- Magical Witchland (ONA) : Character Design
- Mahou Yuugi 3D (OAV) : Character Design
- Try! Try! Try! (manga) : Story & Art
- Wallaby (manga) : Story & Art
- Yotsubato! (manga) : Story & Art

I got the third volume over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. I particularly like the picture of Yotsuba's dad with two flowers in his hair. I love her dad's personality. He's a firm father but still gives Yotsuba a lot of freedom.

I just got it today! And put my Fruits Basket bookmark in it ^-^. The flower cupid was so cute! I want to make an avatar out of Koiwa with the flowers in his hair.

It goes up through chapter 21.

My favorite part was when Yostuba goes out to meet Asagi after she comes home late at night looking of some omake. The exchange was priceless and too cute for words.

It's really funny the way Asagi constantly eggs Yotsuba on.

The mother is so, so ... out-there. The flashback with little Asagi was so funny, making the poor kid go look for 5 leaf clovers.

I too loved the pic with Koiwai and flowers in his hair. *snickers* And how Yotsuba mentioned at the flowershop when asked how he was doing, that he did the 'boxerman dance' again. Koiwai is one of those people who doesn't seem like they should have the responsibility of raising a kid, but ends up doing a pretty good job of it.
