Never did get around to this ...

Postby shooraijin » Fri Jul 11, 2003 8:46 pm

It dawned on me while I was sitting around that I never actually did this. It's an anticlimax since I think I've said most of this in one form or another somewhere else, but here it is for posterity/the archives/convenience/no good reason:

Age: 26 (as of this post, natch)
Birthday: 28 September 1976
Nationality: half Australian (from Mom), half American (Dad), thus dual citizenship
Born: Athens, Georgia
Hometown: San Diego (La Mesa), Calif.
Live in: [Southern] Calif. (yuck)
Been to: Philippines (x3 years as a child), Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Canada, Mexico (well, duh, if you live in So.Calif) -- going to Italy this fall! :thumb:
Family: dad's a veterinarian, mom's a former teacher->business manager, two kid sisters (one's a mommy in N. Carolina, the other's at med school)

Job: overworked medical resident (family practise)
Other jobs I've held: database consultant (x4 years during med school), programmer/analyst, short-order cook, stocker at Nordstroms (short-lived temp job), working at my dad's veterinary clinic
Hobbies: foreign languages (in particular Japanese, German and Spanish) and linguistics, graphic arts, programming and system design (especially classic computer systems), music (piano mostly)
Sports I play: bowling (badly), floor hockey (not bad), basketball (adequate)
People I know in Real Life(tm) from here: oldphilosopher and EireWolf
I look in the mirror and I see: the ground from 6'2" in the air, dark brown hair (usually thick and out of control), blue eyes

Most recent anime acquisition: Urusei Yatsura box set #4
First anime acquisition: Ranma 1/2 box set #1
Most recent CD I bought: "The Matrix Reloaded" soundtrack
Most recent DVD I bought: "Red Heat" (classic Schwarzeneggar flick! Go, Arnie, go!)
Favourite Christian bands: The Waiting, Switchfoot, Sarah Mason, delirious
Favourite secular bands: Art of Noise, Pink Floyd (before 1973), R.E.M., Parliament
Favourite TV series: the classic "Mission: Impossible"

Computers on my desk: Macintosh Plus, dual 1.25GHz G4 Power Macintosh, Commodore 128DCR and a 486DX/40 utility laptop
Consoles connected to the TV: Sega Dreamcast (broadband adaptor coming soon), Sylvania Intellivision, and an Atari 2600 VCS
Favourite console game: tie between Soulcaliber and Crazy Taxi (DC), Burger Time (Inty), Kaboom! (VCS)
Favourite desktop computer game: Shogo Mobile Armor Division (Mac), Zenji (Commodore 64 ... or maybe the Eidolon by Lucasfilm on the C64, too).

Local church: Redlands Church of the Nazarene (though when I'm at home, my folks and I go to a little Bible fellowship in Chula Vista)
First came to Christ: age 12 -- always working on this
Bible verse of particular meaning: Genesis 28:16

Greatest satisfaction in life: embracing my inner geek
Greatest regret in life: writing too much in on-line bio threads

So you were born in Georgia. I remember living there a long time ago in the city Augusta.

> You're going to Italy? Nice! What's the occasion?

It's a late med school graduation present! :) I've never been to Europe, so my parents are taking me there this fall. We're going to Rome and Venice (I can only take two weeks off, or else we'd go to Firenze as well).

One of these days, I'll get to London too. djnoz, we'll go hang out when I do

Actually, I have a real Asia bug ... maybe it's because I lived there as a child, and I'm half Aussie to boot. I'm saving up to spend a couple of weeks in Japan in a year or two -- my dad has some friends of friends who live near Yokohama. However, that won't be until at least the year after next (I just won't have enough vacation time from residency, for one thing).

We lived around Warner Robins, while my dad was going to UGa for his veterinary degree. While we spent two years there, I don't remember any of it; my earliest memories were of the Philippines. My aunt and uncle live there (Georgia) now and probably one of these days I'll pick up a ticket and go say hi, with air rates being relatively inexpensive these days :)

It is kind of interesting, though: if you look on the biography archive, scanning the numbers, it looks like most people are in the 15-21 range (yes, I read yours too ;) ).

Murphy's law

Postby Erenan » Sat Jul 12, 2003 3:50 pm

No kidding?

My home town is San Diego, and I'm going to college in Redlands. I don't go to the Church of the Nazarene, though. I usually go to Calvary Chapel.

That's true... but it seems I always end up conversing with people on the upper end of the continuum or beyond it. It feels like every day I'm browsing a friend of mine's post, and they casually mention their spouse or their grandchildren (okay, so that hasn't happened).

Well, that has to be UofR, right? And are you going to the Calvary Chapel off Alabama/San Bernardino Ave.?

Postby Erenan » Sun Jul 13, 2003 10:28 pm

Yeah, UofR.

I'm not sure about the street names. I don't drive, so I never bother to learn them, and I've only been there for one year now. So I'm not really familiar with everything yet. But I think you are probably right about it. It's the one right next to a big open field. (Yeah, that narrows it down. :rolls_eye )

No, no, that does actually narrow it down. I'm pretty sure it's the one I'm thinking of, too.

Ah, I finally found it....

Postby Omega Amen » Wed Jun 23, 2004 12:59 pm

I would like to ask certain questions to each staff member in his/her Who's Who thread (with the exception being Shatterheart since he answered them in a different thread).

First, a few laid-back questions, shooraijin.

1. It seems that you have traveled a lot.... Where would you like to settle down?

2. I get the impression that you really like the Ranma series. I have never seen it. In your opinion, what is great about it?

3. What do you think about black hair?

4. Why did you choose the medical profession?

Now, for the serious questions. I would really like to have your answers to these questions, but if you choose not to answer them, I understand, and I will not press you.

5. As a moderator of this site, you have taken some extra responsibilities in your life, such as maintaining certain technical aspects of this site, enforcing rules, and trying to be a good example here. What is the reason that caused you to accept this position of authority and fulfill its responsibilities?

6. From the start of your involvement here at the CAA, what were your personal motivations, intentions, and goals in participating in this project? Have they changed since then? How are you holding up to them?

7. Finally, you might have had some expectations for this site initially. Are things going as expected?

Thanks... and from my perspective, your bio here is not that long (at least when it is compared to mine).
