James Cameron is at it again...

Postby bigsleepj » Fri Nov 26, 2004 5:46 am

(if someone posted on this before I appologize)

It seems that James Cameron, who made Terminator 1 & 2, True Lies, Aliens (2nd one), The Abyss and Titanic, is out to film a live-action version of the manga "Battle Angel Alita" at a massive budget.

James Cameron is a good director - his Terminator 2, True Lies, Abyss and Aliens are brilliant in their respective genres (and Titanic's not that bad) but he's been so busy making IMAX documentaries that he might have lost his touch. What do you think?

I think anime has no business going live-action. It just doesn't work.

Now, for all of you who would point out the Matrix trilogy as a rebuttal, remember that the Matrix movies were designed for live-action.

Anime and live-action film are two different art forms IMO.

I think he's lost his touch.... with realty. Battle Angel Alita, unless it's highly toned down will not make a publicly acceptable movie. The manga is violent to extremes in cases and, if he films it in 3D he's going to have people getting sick in the theater. The villians (and even the heros) are not exactly beautiful either, and I for sure do not want to see any of them jumping out of the screen at me. I think its a bad idea, and unless he can dig down to wherever he pulled the first cut of blade runner (not directors cut) from, and avoid T3 and Matrix ripoffage, its going to be a horrible, gross movie, or a dull Matrix clone.

just a note Raiden, he's basing it on the Manga. There was a BAA anime, but even that had a tough time translating the manga to motion. And thats the main reason I'm worried about the movie.

James Cameron hasn't lost his touch. He's just doin something else. Maybe he'll do a good job, maybe he won't. It all depends on the script and how much effort he puts into it.
