Insert clever title here

Postby skreyola » Mon Sep 24, 2012 11:30 pm

Hello.
I am a Christian author and private instructor. I have been watching anime regularly for a little over three years (before that, it was only occasional, and mostly Studio Ghibli movies I could rent at the video store, so very limited). What got me involved in watching anime was that a friend of mine told me that Hulu had Fruits Basket available for streaming (she said I remind her of one of the characters, so I wanted to see what she meant). And after watching that show, I started looking for other shows I could watch.
I decided to register at CAA because I've been exploiting the site for a long time to help me decide which shows to watch. Hulu has a lot of good series titles, but they also have a lot of really ecchi titles, and the ratings aren't a lot of help, because some of the really great animes are TV-MA for violence or language, and the main thing I want to avoid is nudity.
I recently looked back over my video history and found I'd watched about 100 series over the past 3-4 years, so I thought I might come here and rate some of them.
So, that's a little bit about me. I probably haven't said the things that are important to you, so feel free to ask questions. I'm pretty open to answering them. Just don't ask for any digits. ;)

Heyyy, welcome!

Have any favorite anime?
And when you say you're a Christian author, do you mean you write in the Christian genre specifically?

"Show me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day." Psalm 25:4-5

"Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.
The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses.
Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.
Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.
O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.
Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.
Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles." Psalm 25: 16-22

I do! Many. They are, not necessarily in order of devotion:
Cross Game, Gunslinger Girl, Nanaka 6/17, anything by Studio Ghibli, Fruits Basket, Bamboo Blade, Honey & Clover, Chance Pop Session, El Cazador de la Bruja, and Croisee in a Foreign Labyrinth.

I watch almost all my anime on Hulu, because I am sadly too poor to buy shows unseen, but I am supporting the industry financially when I can, and when I can find what I want. I bought the DVDs for Gunslinger Girl, and I'd buy Cross Game in a heartbeat, if I could find a legit distributor.

I like to think that my Christianity heavily informs my writing, but I do not write what's generally classified as Inspirational fiction. My own designation for what I write is Speculative Fiction. My writing is mostly soft (relationships) SF and hard (realistic) fantasy.

So, i was looking around and reading more on the review guidelines, and i had some questions, but I couldn't really tell for sure where the most appropriate place is to ask them. can anyone point me in the right direction?

aw, no one wants jelly babies. Atria35, you didn't spread your opinion on them around did you?
Anyway, in the Anime Reviews section, there's a thread called "Review Requests". Post it there.
