You're quite right, everyone has their own tastes! I just wanted to try something different with this one. In each video I make I try to stretch myself in some new direction with my editing. For the Love Addict video I played with text. This time I played a lot with chroma key and lip syncing. My next one is going to be pretty fun, especially if you're a Zelda fan like me

It really shows that you're just getting better and better. You're an editing monster:thumb: (in a good way). Can't wait for your Link video.

They took the Last Round Up off of ITunes, edited it so Rainbow Dash didn't call Derpy Derpy. (FYI The voice actress who did RD, said she wouldn't redo her lines.) And had someone else do lines for Derpy.

Hasbro, WHY U THINK DERPY NEEDS TO CHANGE?

This is truly a sad loss for the fandom. Unfortunately things happened and this was the end result.
But rather than getting mad at this, let's remember that the day they did name Derpy the creators showed that they loved the fandom as much as we love them. And even though we are sad about the removal of Derpy's name, it really does seem that Studio B, HUB and Hasbro feels the same way.
For better or worse this will go down in Brony history.

So let's make this Derpy Day extra Derpy.;)

So wait, what is going on with Derpy anyway? Are they just changing her name or removing her completely?

I've not seen the edit myself yet, but what they did was:

Change Derpy's voice to sound more like a girl.
Edit out Rainbow saying Derpy (her name wasn't changed, just removed).
And un-derped her eyes a little (not completely).

An artist has confirmed that we'll still have her with derped eyes in future episodes though.

I actually went on YouTube and watched it and you're right. They edited out Rainbow saying her name and you could tell. Meanwhile Derpy's eyes were less crossed then originally. Meanwhile...don't hate me guys, but I actually liked the new voice. Still concerning they thought they had to change it though.

The arguement I heard for why she had to change was this:

The voice they used and the actions they showed made her appear to be disabled, not clumsy. One of the people I spoke to noted that the first voice was very similar to the children their brother works with who are autistic, and that they have never shown her doing anything competently to balance things out, (see snips and snails... they're dumb but not totally unbelievable, and are shown to participate in normal life in a nondestructive manner) essentially making her less a joke character and more a cruel steriotype of only the most negative traits of a disabled person. My suspicion is that Hasbro and possibly the studio received comments pointing this out, that they'd gone a little too far over the line, and decided to reign it back, especially since their portrayal didn't even match the fandom voices that were put out, which were ditzy not 'slow'.

My personal opinion?
I like the change. I found the original voice distracting, since it didn't fit the character IMO, and the use of the fan name to be... a bit too much. Acknowledging the fandom by the fandom titles in advertising is fine, but I think it starts breaking the show if you do that too much, or without consideration for the show as a whole.

I have to admit that I never did notice that they didn't balance her out more, being my idea of her personality is heavily based in fandom. Even the parts of fandom that has her at her most derpy has positive traits given to her. That does give a clearer picture of why she was changed.

As for the voice, although I haven't heard it yet, it's no surprise that many fans love the new one. It was the one thing that many fans didn't like about her in the first place, considering her VA said herself she thought Derpy was a boy when she did the voice.

But I have to disagree that using the fan name was a bit too much. Setting aside whether the name 'Derpy' was offensive or not. I don't see why using names like Octavia, Vinyl or Lyrra for characters of the show will break it. And I think Studio B have already proven they can acknowledge the fandom in the show without breaking the story or world. And really, except for the balance of the character which you pointed out, I thought that Derpy fit the scene very well and was completely in sync with the overall episode.

I think Hasbro did it because a large number of fans were mad about the way Derpy's voice sounded and a lot of them made complaints and said that it was also offensive to mentally ill people, that it was making fun of them or something. Now just as many fans are upset about the change.

You have to look at it from a corporation's point of view. They can't make everyone happy, and I guess they decided to go with the option that involved the least risk of having their name besmirched or having them end up in some kind of silly lawsuit over the term and the voice.

I personally think everyone just overreacted, and that they shouldn't have changed it, but based on what I know of how poorly people in general reacted to the whole thing, I can kind of understand why they did it. Of course, now they have a whole different group of angry people to deal with. At least the upcoming DVD release still has the original Derpy on it. At least the first batch does anyway. They might change it for future batches of the DVD, who knows.

You know, Mechana has a point, but Felix is right. So far I've tried to avoid the issue because I really didn't want this to be about fan rage. But there really is no other explanation. Derpy isn't an unknown character that just suddenly appeared on screen, and neither is this her first time in the foreground. She's been acting Derpy this whole season, she had bags on for a costume in 'Luna Eclipsed'. I've seen posts about mothers and fathers who watch the show with their children that know her as Derpy and love her. This truly is only because they named her Derpy instead of Ditzy. That's just amazing!
But I won't rage about it, Hasbro really don't need that right now, instead I'll buy muffins. And I need to get my hands on that DVD, I hope they still have stock in two weeks.

You know, to be honest, as long as they don't get rid of the character I really don't care what they call her. I always thought Ditzy Doo was a cuter name then Derpy Hooves, but I know that seems to be more of an unpopular opinion. As I said above I think the new voice is much better. If anyone wants to see the clip I'll link it for ya'll here.

I'm actually not completely sold on either voice. I guess because I (and a lot of other people too) already sort of had an imagined voice for Derpy/Ditzy in our heads. I think that something in between the two voices would be just about perfect.

It's interesting that this character is causing such a big stink, when we've had similar cartoon characters all over the place that have never really caused problems. Ed from Ed, Edd and Eddy comes to mind. He's probably even more "disabled" than Derpy, but nobody ever had a problem with him as far as I can remember. Maybe people are just more sensitive nowadays. It's going to blow over and go back to the way it was before Derpy spoke, which is fine with me, honestly. I like having her be a sort of easter egg in each episode. Seen but not heard.

Actually I'm just a perfectionist ^^; When lip syncs or any little details are off in a video it bugs me to no end, so I spend hours trying to edit every little detail of mine. Here's my pony Zelda video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trCf9eCmIHY
A lot of editing went into this one too, as I'm sure you will see... o.o

Ed is an interesting example. I think the difference may be that ed had other dimensions to his personality than being inept, and got more screen time showing him doing other things. He was NOTABLY inept but we see him reacting to things in other ways occasionally, and I can remember him acting notably noble or kind, and showing restraint in some episodes. It wasn't common, but it existed.

Derpy/Ditzy hasn't gotten that chance since shes not a main character, and her two biggest moments have been much more destructive than most other negative consequences in the series thus far, dropping a number of items on a pony, destroying the items and (briefly) severely injuring the pony, and destroying an entire building. Nightmare moon, the Ursa, the Hydra... pretty much anything short of Discord and the Parasprites did less on screen damage than she has so the one defining point of the character IN THE SERIES (no fandom extended portrayal here, the target audience doesn't see most of it) has been destructive to the point where the character (if ponyville was operating logically) would have been taken care of in some way in an episode. Hasbro has to look at things as portrayed on screen, independent of fandom to make a call like this, so I think that's pretty important to remember.

This idea is brilliant! Twister is best pony!

@Mechana I would really like to believe all that, because then it would mean it has nothing to do with the fandom. But it doesn't make sense. Why not earlier, why not with barking pony. If it was the voice, why remove the name. If it was her actions, why not cut the whole scene. Why just her voice and name, which was the two things that made the Ditzy fans mad in the first place. And the Ditzy fans did bombard Hasbro with lots of complaints about this.

The only thing that really bothers me about this mess is that it might have created a rift between the fandom and Hasbro. Whatever they do with the show, neither Ditzy nor Derpy is going anywhere, she belongs to the fans. I'd just hate to see Hasbro turning cold towards their fans. (They're bringing out toys aimed at bronies! A white Celestia! I don't want stuff like that to end because of this misunderstanding.)

I really don't think it's done that. Ditzy was in the most recent episode, and any rift would be the fans reacting poorly and throwing a fit at Hasbro, though I wouldn't be surprised if Hasbro put a damper on adding more 'fan inspired material' to the show due to the insensitivity accusations, or at least slowed it down so they could take a harder look at it before they set it loose. I think they'll probably stick to aiming toys and external product like a white Celestia at 'older fans' while they regain their footing, since I expect they didn't expect the backlash they got.

The way the change was made indicates to me it wasn't to make older fans happy, otherwise it would have been left alone as about half the older fans were happy with it, but to respond to complaints more along the lines that I pointed out. The voice and name were also the target of the people who were pointing out that it was a negative stereotype, as I pointed out briefly in my first post, and being told it's a negative stereotype sort of thing would hold a lot more weight to a corporation than 'the fans' (who aren't their target market, as has been stated by Hasbro and the creators myriad times) complaining. Media corporations like Hasbro, especially ones in the business of entertaining children are the most sensitive to any accusations of stereotyping or other wrongdoing of that nature out there, merely due to the nature of their product, and from the view of a corporation, reacting to angry parents and anti-stereotyping activists takes high priority over the complaints of a periphery demographic that the show was designed to be tolerable to, but not the primary target.

Her name and voice were the prime complaints, with her actions being cited as backup evidence, so the fact they cut those specifically makes sense. In addition, they couldn't cut the scene, because A. without the voice and name, she is just clumsy, as originally intended. B. There would be no reason for the entire episode without it.

Hasbro has been well reasoned and responsive, if a little caught off guard by the fan phenomena, so I see no reason to cry doom over the whole situation, and I expect that they will remain cautiously positive towards older fans and throw a few bits their way while maintaining a strong focus on their target market. If they really wanted to overreact they'd just pull the entire episode, and Derpy/Ditzy would never appear again, white celestia would be cancelled and they'd be hitting Equestria Daily with a Cease & Desist nuke. That hasn't happened so far and the animators have stated ditzy/derpy isn't gone (and she wasn't cut from the next few episodes), so unless other things happen I'd say chill out.

I also got a look at her eyes, they are still pretty derpy looking. I think they just changed her voice really. I'm a bit sad that they took away the fan nod, but hey, I still remember it. It happened and it was nice.

Plus, I believe that they kept the line in tact on the DVD.

I still do think that angry parents and anti-stereotyping activists would leave some sort of evidence, like letters to a newspaper (they love doing that), that we could link to them (it's actually a good thing there aren't any though). But yes you're right, this is probably just me overreacting, and Hasbro has been working closely with EqD to calm fan rage, they wouldn't do that if there was a rift, right?
So, consider me 'chilled out'.

Now that I think about it, I actually do have one guilty pleasure. It's Super Robot Taisen:Super Pony Taisen:dizzy:

So the next episodes are:
Fluttershy
Twilight
Spike
Fluttershy

There it is again. It really does look like they were concentrating on certain characters while making the episodes. Two Fluttershys with almost the same theme so close together? There's no doubt that they are going to be awesome, but once again we'll probably won't enjoy the second one as much as we could have.:eh:

That Derpy video got to me too, CK. *sniff*

Yeah, the order of the episodes this season has been very curious. We had a Sweetie Belle episode followed immediately by a CMC episode, then two Dash episodes back to back and two Pinkie Pie episode pretty close together. Now two Fluttershy's very close together. At least they seem to have spaced out the Twilight and Spike episodes. And where's the Rarity love? She needs another episode. Although I suppose Sisterhooves Social was sort of a Rarity episode too.

It seems to me like the episodes would be more effective if they spaced out the character focus a lot more. All it would take would be swapping one of the RD episodes with Pinkie Pie and then moving one of the Fluttershy episodes closer to the beginning of the season. Oh well, it's really not too big a deal, all things considered. Pony is pony and I'm glad to have it :) I wonder if they will rearrange the episodes at all if this season ever sees a box set release?

In the first Zelda game? ... I don't remember anybody named Daxter. So he must not have annoyed me ^^; I never really found Navi that annoying either. At least not her sounds. The thing that annoyed me was when she'd make you pause and read her basic tutorial on Z-targeting for the hundredth time.

You're quite right, we'll just watch them in the order we want to. I usually just watch episodes based on what I'm in the mood for at the time. But for first timers or for marathons, I like to show them in order if possible. That might be a little bit of my OCD coming out...

Wow, what a roller-coaster ride we've been on with Derpy. First, I'm surprised that we got such a detailed reply, that's amazing. I'm also glad to see that this has calmed down most of the fandom. To think that they almost called her Ditzy anyway, really that alone would have been a big nod towards the fandom. Hopefully this will be the end of this chapter.
But I would have so enjoyed seeing 'lightning bucking' it's a shame they had to cut that. :P

Thanks for making that thread, Bio! I hope more people see it. Happy Derpy day to you too ^^

I enjoyed reading that response from the writer, too. She pretty much said what I already expected, but it was nice to hear it straight from the top and get such a polite and in-depth explanation of everything. I would have loved to see the lightning bucking too! Maybe they'll bring it back for another episode in the future...

Aw, really? Random acts of kindness are the best things ever though! How could they not like getting them? Just love the heck out of them anyway... that will show them!

Also, there's been a short leaked clip from the upcoming Fluttershy episode, and it looks... one hundred and twenty percent incredible and indomitable. Agreed! The values of bronies really are not far off from those of Christians, actually. That's something I've been thinking about lately... it seems like unsaved bronies would be great people to share Christ with. They'd probably be more open to it because of the shared morals and because, being bronies, they're probably just more open-minded to things in general. Imagine if the whole brony community had Christ AND ponies! Imagine how much more love and smiles would go around...

And I'm impressed with your display of self-restraint! I can tell you that you won't be disappointed! And you only have to wait one more day. Woah, I didn't realize saturday was so close already! This whole two week break has thrown me off. It's been too long since I saw some new pony!

Of all the best things, that would be the BEST thing. A whole Bonydom of Christians. It really breaks my heart when I see people that follow the same values as us Christians and have the same problems we do, and is still so opposed to Christ. And I'm thankful every day for knowing Christ, it's scary to think of where I would have been today without Him.

And I know it's kind of an unspoken rule among Bronies not to mention this, but it's going to be so bad waiting between season 2 and 3.:P
