ok hey i want to ask what thedifference betweeen manga and anime is so what isthe difference and i want to know why you like anime or manga better and how long has manga been around and how long has anime been around

Anime - Japanese cartoons, so to speak. They are animated, usually 30 minutes in length and episodic (meaning they're like American television shows), and range from G-rated Children shows to basically animated porn

Manga - Commonly compared to American comic books, manga is the print form of anime. In fact, many anime originate from a successful manga run.

It's commonly said that it originated between the end of World War 2 and the 1960's, when people who made movies couldn't afford the physical costs of making sets and transporting people (this is what I heard, correct me if I'm wrong!), and took it's cues from American cartoons, but developed into it's own style.

I personally prefer manga, since the storyline tends to be longer/more involved than in anime, but there are many anime that I like just as much as their manga counterparts.

manga is anime in comic form, or you could say that anime is manga in animated form. The art style are typically similar, it's just the media they use to portray it that differ. One is in paper form, one is in a video form. I can't say I like either one "better", it's just that anime is more available for free due to services like Hulu or in the old days, television. Manga on the other hand, ends up being more costly, as you're essentially paying for a comic book.

They've both been around for a while with the first anime being inspired by "Betty Boop" (gives you some perspective). I think it first became famous with astro boy however, with future addition adding to the growth.

As it's been said, manga are something like the Japanese version of American comic books. Anime is kinda like American cartoons.

Sometimes anime are based off manga (like how there are Batman and other superhero cartoon shows here) and sometimes the manga are based off the anime (didn't they start making Avatar: The Last Airbender graphic novel volumes?). Each manga does not necessarily have an anime equivalent, and the reverse is true, too.

I don't really know much about the history of either.

I prefer manga because it's more easily accessible than anime due to my lousy internet. xP

Also, I find that the paneling in manga is generally more creative than in western comics.

I like manga a bit more because...Well, as others have said, animes tend to not show the whole story.

Manga means whimsical pictures and is essentially any Japanese comic. Anime is their term for Animation. They would consider Spongebob Anime...In America Anime is simply any sort of animation from Japan.

Manga got its start in the late 1700's/early 1800's, the name was first ascribed to an artist named Hokusai's woodblock prints...His most famous being The Great Wave off Kanagawa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Wave_off_Kanagawa

Modern anime and manga can both be attributed to Osamu Tezuka who got his start in the 1920's. He is known as the godfather of anime and manga, and if I remember correctly Astro-Boy was the first anime tv series, also the first to be shown internationally.
