Guitar Hero II

I was just at Circuit City the other day looking for a DS. I didn't find one (of course) but I did spot Guitar Hero II. I'd heard lots of good things about this game, so I bought it.
Freakin'. Awesome.
I love this game. It's like DDR for guitarists. And the song selection is great. Pretty much everything is either classic rock or stuff that hasn't been considered new since I was in middle or highschool. So it's mostly pretty familiar stuff. The only gripe I have with it is I wish there was a way to just listen to a song so I could get an idea of how the unfamiliar ones go without having to play along. That, and after a couple hours of play, my left hand feels like it's about ready to fall off. But that just means i'm rocking hard enough.

I love the game. It's fun to play, and it's amazing. But I would never buy it.

Go buy yourself the original, oh spoony one. It has a better selection of songs.

Go into Practice mode. Go through and pick a song, then on the screen where you pick the section of the song you want to practice, put the cursor on "Full Song" and leave it there. It will play the whole thing. (I thought about using this to make my own OST of sorts. >_>)

Also, Raiden is right-- the first game has WAY better songs.

What I'd like to see happen is something like Guitar Hero 1.5-- take the songs from GHI and put them in the GHII engine. Because being able to hammer-on and pull-off in Texas Flood on Hard would make me SO happy.

Guitar Hero 2 is awesome. I didn't play the first one much, so I wouldn't know about how much better the songs are, but don't put this game down because of that...it stands on it's own well enough, methinks.

Oh, and one of the songs you can "purchase" is the most irritating thing ever. I think it's called "Jordan". That thing is just nuts. I hurt my hands playing it on hard.

Jordan is ridiculous. My boyfriend actually managed to pass it quite a few times but I haven't been able to do it yet. It is teh hurt.

Ooh, ooh! You know what's rad? Less Talk More Rokk. On Expert. Granted, I can't play it at full speed yet but hammer-on'ing all those descending and ascending notes is really fun.

I bought it on a whim, and never regretted it. Trogdor and Who Was In My Room are my personal favorites.

I love this game! The first one does has better classic rock, but they are both a "must aquire" item for the ps2. That strumming gets a bit crazy if you only do it one direction, a friend tricked me into playing "Six" on hard, I was strumming so fast for so long that my thumb began bleeding...

I picked up GH1 the other day. There are a few songs on both games that I dislike, but they both have a pretty decent selection. I've found that even the old cliche songs like "Ironman" and "Smoke on the Water" are really not so bad, as long as they're not just the main riff over and over again as played through the neighbor kid's practice amp.
As for strumming, it took me a while to realize I could strum up and down. But once I did, I instinctively began to play with my thumb and forefinger pinched together as if holding a pick.
