Trundling on in

Postby Pinecone Tortoi » Sat Jan 20, 2007 4:26 pm

Well, hi there, folks!

Um, in case you're wondering about the name, it was meant to be Pinecone Tortoise, but if it told me it was going to lop of the last two letters, I didn't see it coming. ^^;;;

Anyways, about me - I is from Aussie-land, that drought-infested (excepting the spots what is currently flooding or on fire) place down south and out in the water a bit.

My likes?
- Miniature umbrellas and exotic straws. Novelty items just don't come much neater than that.
- Birds. Had two, both deceased. Cocktiels they was. Adorable and affectionate.
- Computer. I hasn't named it, but why would I? Do you name your hands?
- Drawing. MUCHLY BIG ON THIS ONE. ^^ And seeing pretty things, which basically counts as seeing in general.

My 'don't likes'?

- Static electricity is a big one. >< Nooooot nice.
- Cat behaviour. A day or so after scooping a turkey chick out from a neighbour's stove where their kitty had chased it is like, so NOT the time to be brandishing these cute critters at me. As much as I think they're pretty to look at and presumably pleasant to stroke, I is somewhat sick of them removing the wildlife from my locale and replacing it with ... droppings.
- Anime/manga as a series and, in general, culture.

Uh, please don't boot me out on sight for that last one. I STILL HAS REASONS TO BE HERE!! Most of which can be found in the last point on my likes list above. The anime art style, I find, is gorgeous. Detailed, beautiful, delicate and simple. But I've yet to come across it in a story that both held my interest and didn't start my conscience gnawing me into submission. I know there's a lot of ways to justify following a lot of fandoms - but justifying justifying something contentious suggests I'm looking for how I can get away with pleasing myself in ways I know are dubious rather than trying to please God as best I can. I isn't as dutiful as that in all areas of my life, but this is one I feel I can pull through on. Got too deep before my conversion and feel much... better... for abandoning it since. And hey, yeh never know - some talented artist might someday take it upon themselves to produce something WITHOUT the crudity, sensuality and magic/demons but still WITH the interest. Mhmm... that'd be nice. ^^

So yeah, if you can tolerate someone veering away from canon anime and fangirlism, I hope to linger around the art section and pick up a few tips. Can't say my stuff is solidly anime (though it might be nice to try something for yer technical reasons... hmm....) but it sure was anime influenced.

Anyways, gotta scoot!

Piney.

"All of Christian life is ceaseless worship of God the Father, through the mediatorship of God the Son, by the indwelling power of God the Spirit, doing what God commands in Scripture, not doing what God forbids in Scripture, in culturally contextualized ways, for the furtherance of the Gospel, when both gathered for adoration, and scattered for action, in joyous response to God's glorious grace."
- Mark Driscoll

"Believers do not pray with the view of informing God about things unknown to Him, or of exciting Him to do His duty, or of urging Him as though He were reluctant. On the contrary, they pray in order that they may arouse themselves to seek Him, that they may exercise their faith in meditating on His promises, that they may relieve themselves from their anxieties by pouring them into His bosom; in a word, that they may declare that from Him alone they hope and expect, both for themselves and for others, all good things."

It is rather difficult to find an anime without too much profanity, sexual innuendo, etc. I think the original Japenese has exceedingly better quality but in most cases the English dub waters down some of the controversial things.
But this is just me rambling. Welcome! :)

Aww, wow, thanks for the welcome everyone! Such warmth! Such openness! Such... er... UNIQUENESS! I feels at home-ish.

Yeah, the name was accidental... and it's not the first time it's happened. You'd think I'd've learnt by now. Shorter names = might actually get to keep all of it.

Radical Dreamer - Oh, I intends to... not that I've got that much stuff to show at the moment. Ever had those times when you start to do something REALLY SPECATULAR and it's far enough progressed that you can see the great bits but then you find yourself stuck on other bits and you don't want to wreck it by settling for something 'just a little out' so you keep trying and destroying the bit of paper... uh, you know what I mean? ^^;;; Got at least one o' those at the moment. Hopefully, it'll get fixed - PROPERLY - soon!

Mithrander - ...

WELLS, YOU CAN COLOUR ME OUTRAGED!!! FOR THE FIRST TIME IN I DON'T KNOW WHEN, I'VE BEEN CENSORED!! AND I WASN'T EVEN TRYING TO BE RUDE!!! (I isn't, of course, outraged at you or anyone else here) I IS OUTRAGED AT THE PEOPLE WHO SUBVERT OUR LANGUAGE AND MAKE IT A DIRTY THING!!! WELL, I IS HAVING HAD ENOUGH!! THE TIME TO TAKE A STAND IS NOW!!!!! (And in case you haven't already twigged to the excessive colonies of exclamation marks populating this message, you have a rant on your hands here. Reading on is at your own risk.) THINGS ARE DIRE, BUT THAT'S OKAYS, CUZ I HAVES A PLAN! I IS GOING TO START A NEW LANGUAGE WITH NEW WORDS THAT DON'T HAVE DOUBLE MEANINGS. I'LL CALL IT 'PINESE' AND INSTITUTE IT AS THE ONLINE LANGUAGE OF THE FUTURE. (Afterwhich, I may or may not sell it on eBay for millions -~~ rant interrupted because mother requires me to put rubbish in bins outside....

.... rant resumed after menial task performed ~~- and retired young.) -~~ Rant terminated after train of thought mislaid.

Eirewolf - Thanks! ^^

Everyone else - uh, would like to reply, but sorta gotta scoot. Have a great day!

:lol: Yes, it is a great tragedy that perfectly innocent words are sometimes "dirtified" as language progresses... or regresses, as the case may be. I look forward to your linguistic revolution. :thumb:

Watch some mecha anime. It's some of the cleanest stuff I've ever seen. And it's got giant robots. Everybody loves giant robots!

Err, anyway, welcome aboard.

Glad to hear that you like drawing! You'll definitely find that you're not alone on CAA in that hobby. :grin:

Oh, and you'll also find there are quite a few Aussies here, too. I'm a kiwi, myself. Great to see you on the boards - I hope you enjoy your time here. Feel free to post some of your artwork on the boards, and just to post in general.

Looking forward to seeing you around.

God bless.

Actually, anime isn't trying to ruffle your feathers. I suggest the Miyazaki movies, they're mostly family-friendly. I highly recommend you check out Whisper of the Heart, one of the cleanest anime titles around.
Anyway, welcome to the asylum. Where we actually let the inmates run the asylum!

Pinecone, my friend. Good to see you here! (all the way from ChristianWriters.com)
We need more Aussies and pinecone tortoi (heh, heh).
I can recommend Last Exile as a great anime with very very little dubious content. It's steampunk anime. And I second all the Miyazaki/Ghibli movies (all except Pom Poko). They are awesomely fantastically amazing.
Anyway, make some friends, take part in interesting conversation and enjoy yourself.

Welcome to the site, Pinecone Tortoi(se)! Can't wait to see some of your artwork! ^_^

I have to say, you should read "Yotsuba&!". It's squeaky clean and incredibly adorable and hilarious. We also have a review section here, so hopefully you'll find the reviews helpful for picking out other clean anime and manga to enjoy.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

The great thing is that CAA covers a variety of interests. I myself am not much of an anime fan any longer, but there are still plenty of areas devoted to my own interests and people who share them. So feel free to make yourself at home! ^_^
