fav Mario game of all time?

Postby Tenshi no Ai » Wed Jan 10, 2007 11:42 am

Well, after finding out that false info on that topic yesterday, why not make a "Mario appreciation" poll and tell what your No. 1 fav Mario game ever is?^^ Of course, I'm not adding ALL the titles, just a few of the biggest hits.

For me, I'd have to say Super Mario Bros 3. I mean, it's just a total classic^^ I've played that game I don't know HOW many times in my life :/ Never did have a Super Nintendo, so stuff like Super Mario World isn't too nostalgic (although I'd play it about a million times at my friends' houses^^) Another fav title I'd have to say is Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. Although Miyamoto didn't create any of the Super Mario Lands on Game Boy, I thought this oen was real fun too^^ I mean, bunny ears!! Although I've played through that game, sadly enough I haven't ever beat it :/

Soooo.... what might your fav be?^^

I wouldn't consider SSB or SSBM to be a Mario game. So I put down "Super Mario Brothers 3"

Oh man. I was totally split between Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario RPG, but 3 got my vote in the end, since it does have the benefit of being one of the first ones I ever played. XD Mario RPG is an amazingly fun game too, though. Also, I really enjoyed 64, so that'll probably hit third on my list of favorite Mario games. XD

Yeah, I was debating whether to stick them in or not, but I decided to since they ARE a collaboration that involve several characters from the series.

Oh...why must you make me pick! I love Super Mario World...but SM3 rocks my freaking socks! (Especially since I rediscovered it in the form of Super Mario All-Stars!)

If you were to twist my arm...I would say...Super Mario 3! Mostly because I never finished it!

Ahahahah - if I remember correctly, I think Photoshop finished Super Mario Bros 3 after a _lot_ of hard work.

Super Mario RPG is my favourite, closely followed by SMB3. Mario in an RPG - How can you not love it? (Rhetorical question ;) ).

Super Mario 64. The only game that I have played and completed 100% at least 7 times.

if i could pick from the titles above, i'd say SSBM because it's my favorite game of all time. however, i don't really consider SSBM or SSB to be a mario game so i'd have to say paper mario. i haven't played all the way through paper mario: thousand year door, but that's also a pretty fun game. i think you might've forgotten to put up Mario and Luigi Supersaga but i suppose that would go in the other section. that's another one of my favorites.

I put down Mario RPG because I enjoyed that game so much and that is a fair definition for "favorite." It is the only game I have beaten multiple times.

However, there are two other worthy titles in the series that prevented my decision from being immediate:
Super Mario 3 - I think this is just about the perfection of the classic Mario style.
Super Mario World 2 - Very well designed, very fun, plenty of secret content.

I voted Super Mario World. It seemed to have the right mix of length, secrets, difficulty and replayability. There are several on the list that I haven't played, or at least not in depth, so the opinion may change on down the road.

Super Mario RPG. Geno and Mallow need to be in SSBB.

I said Mario World because I've played through the entire game including every secret level multiple times. Mario 3 comes in a close second with Mario Kart third. The original Mario Kart is still my favorite racing game ever. Mario World 2 Definitely ranks toward the top as well, but it's hard for me to compare it to the others because it has a completely different dynamic.

EDIT: By the way, I don't really consider Mario 2 a Mario game since it was originally supposed to be a Mario game.

Yeah it wasn't, but since it IS well known AS a Mario game by us (and labeled as one in NA), it still does count. (Even though the other story makes alot more sense...)

Considering I'm an RPG geek; I would have to put down Mario RPG.

Although I really like Super Mario World and Super Mario 3 a lot.

When I was 9, I was really hooked on Super Mario Land 2.

Super Mario RPG...although I'm probably biased since RPGs are my favorite genre.

Actually, what I want far more than that is a Super Mario RPG 2 with an improved but similar battle system and a story that continues in the same world, if not with the same plot. I liked Paper Mario, but it isn't the same and I would enjoy a sequel. Seeing Geno again would be a plus as well.

I think that how many elements from that game have been incorporated into future Mario games is enough to earn it a place on the list.

I agree with that, actually. Mario World 2 especially took a lot of ideas from Mario 2. But I still personally have a hard time considering it part of the series as far as basic gameplay and storyline go.

I'll have to say Yoshi's Island. For my money, 2D platformers hit their absolute high point with that game.

I do love Super Mario bros 3, I have many fond memories playing it on my older cousin's nintendo... but I'd have to say Super Smash. It's a great game that all my friends can play. And I just love my N64. hehe
