What is the best Gundam or mech series?

Personally I own:
*Gundam Wing vol.#5
*Gundam Wing:Endless Waltz Special Edition(includes both the movie and OVA versions)
*Dual vol.#2 Student Housing
*Neon Genesis Evangelion Plantinum Edition vol.#3
*Escaflowne vol.#1 Dragons And Destiny
Note on Escaflowne:In the movie version the Escaflowne mecha appears to be actually larger than the version seen in the series. In the series only Van can fit inside Escaflowne, but in the movie it appears both he and Hitomi could fit somewhat comfortably in it.

My favorite Gundam series would ahve to be 8th MS team Wing was ok wasn't too keen on the Shonen-Ai aspect.

Best mech I would have to say Eva...still don't undersstand why we cannot discuss it but its cool.

In Gundam Wing, the shounen-ai is mostly fangirl-created. There's no solid proof of it in the actual series.

It has to do with the fact that events in Evangelion are dictated by the Dead Sea Scrolls and also some of the religious oriented content might be offensive to some people. That's the only thing I can think of.

Hmm but I don't see that as a reason to totally not discuss it. I mean some people may have disagreements...but isn't that what a message board is for? And if someone does not like a particular discussion they can choose not to read and discuss it. But oh well I can discuss evangelion somewhere else I don't want to be a nussence(sp?).

Another mecha show would be Voltron. Which everyone can see, starting next week at 5:30 am on Adult Swim.

Also, Mobile Police Patlabor is pretty good.

I agree with those who've said RahXephon. It's a complex show, much in the same vein as EVA (which I also found compelling), but not quite as heavy.

Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, although it's been criticized by some, also holds a special place in my heart. It was one of the titles that first got me addicted to anime. ;)
Theme Scripture: Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)

And a verse for all us single folks: Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)

Eva not as heavy as Rahxephon? hmm of course I have yet to see all of Rahxephon but I would still beg to differ.

Another good Mech anime is Big O.

No, no, you read his post wrong. He's saying Rahxephon isn't quite as heavy as Eva.

Anyway, I'm throwing my vote in for Macross, because it's awesome and I've never seen a Gundam series...except Seed, which I despised.

Well, aside from Eva, I absolutely love Full Metal Panic. It's just a whole lot of fun. :)

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi while not a Mecha series did do a parody of
Mecha type series in one episode.

As far as Sakura Wars go,from what I understand the Mecha are steam operated
since the show takes place in an alternate version of the early 20th century.

I would hardly recommend that to a fifteen year old (or ANYONE) seeing as how half that episode revolves around how Arumi doesn't have any underwear on...and proves it every five seconds.

Yeah I was a little reluctant to watch that when I heard about some transexual being apart of it....is that correct?

As for Sakura Wars I had a bad experience with the movie and really have no deisre in watching it...

That's because it is. The newest UC gundam story line was 08th MS Team, which made from 1996 to 1999. Most of the AC gundam were done from the middle 90's to 2000's.

Well since the topic was mecha I just thought I would point out that at one point they do do a parody of mecha in MSAA,I wasn't necessarily recommending it I was just pointing it out.
Not anime, but every version of Power Rangers also include a megazor which is
a mecha(those scenes tend to be the worst because you can always tell that the
background set is made out of cardboard).
As far as personal recommendations I would start with Dual and Gundam Wing
and then add Gundam Seed.

Best mecha series I have ever seen is the Gundam ones. I prefer the Gundam SEED line of series. I also like Gundam Wing and 08th MS Team. One Gundam I don't think gets a fair shake is G Gundam. Sure its cheesy but its also loads of fun. I own both volumes of G Gundam complete collection and rewatching it reminded me of how much fun it was. And you can't beat some of the mecha designs in G Gundam.

Another good mecha is Full Metal Panic. It has more of a comedic element then others. I own Season one and would like to get Fumoffu and Second Raid.

RahXephon is good but be ready to have your brain twisted in loops. I own this one so clearly i like it ;)

However I would have to say that Gundam (which I think is the godfather of all mecha) is the best mecha series, particularly the Gundam SEED flavor, though there are a lot of good Gundams besides SEED.

Oh and if ya like mecha I highly recommend the Armored Core series for the Playstation. You can build you own mecha from the ground up and pilot it in missions.

As you can see, Gundam is pretty popular around here.

I would stay away from Neon Genesis Evangelion and Gundam Seed. My opinon. NGE had too much objectionable content and was poorly written, while all the whining in Gundam Seed got on my nerves.

On the other hand, 08th MS Team rocks very hard, as does Big O. (That might actually meet David's superhero anime requirements. It's like Batman meets Gundam.) Gundam Wing takes some getting used to to enjoy due to its awful writing and acting, but it's still pretty fun. For the record, there's no homosexual content in the actual show - it's all fan created.

Also a hearty thumbs-down to Vandread.

I know we're not supposed to discuss this show, but could we please not needlessly bash it? Regardless of what anyone says, the show does not have any more objectionable content than your average anime aimed at teens/older-teens.

That being said, I will once again implore everyone to go and watch GaoGaiGar, because it is burning justice.

I'm currently watching and enjoying Gundam SEED Destiny. Having not watched Gundam SEED before i'm thinking that maybe i should watch that too? Should i continue watching gundam seed destiny or stop and watch gundam seed? I can understand the story well enough but im wary of spoilers.

And full metal panic is good. I haven't seen the third season, but i love the first two although Full Metal Panic? Fumnofuu isn't a mecha anime. Is the third season a mecha anime?

The best Gundam, in my opinion, is Gundam Seed. I know people don't dig the animation, but I think it's pretty, and the story is most excellent. The characters actually have emotion, the plot is interesting, and the characters don't pontificate about life and war and death in a way that is laughable... like a certain other Gundam series that is popular.

The best mech show, however, is probably The Vision of Escaflowne, if it can be counted as such.
I'm a shoe-in for hater of the year.

Not that I know of.

You have three shows, yes.

Full Metal Panic!

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu

Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid

Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (the ova, which is just a 30 min OVA. Which is just a write on story and doesn't add anything to the tv series)
