Another Brother in Christ and Anime

Postby Spiritsword » Wed Jul 09, 2003 8:47 am

Hi there!
Introduction time yet again...
Well, where should I begin? I guess I should say how excited I was to find a place dedicated to two of the major focuses of my life: my faith and anime. I've really had a hard time meeting or finding Christians who have a passion for anime as well, so you can imagine my elation to find a "Christian Anime Alliance"! I was starting to wonder if Christianity and anime were mutually exclusive, though I'd prayed about it and God had told me that they were fine together. Then a friend sent me an E-Mail with this site, I talked to Ashley a bit, and lo and behold, here I am!
I won't carry on too long here, but a quick bit about what I would guess are the two most pertinent topics around here.
I came back into the faith about two years ago after a self-imposed (intellectual questioning phase) hiatus. I'd been moving back toward God for a few years before that, and He sent both people and events into my life to facilitate the return trip. Of course He welcomed me back with open arms and since then I've been steadily growing in the Christian faith. I do have a basis for the faith, as I grew up a Christian.
As for anime, I've been into that for about 6 years now, and just like Christianity, my understanding and dedication to it have been steadily growing over time. I tend to like the fantasy genre best, and some of my favorite series include Slayers, The Vision of Escaflowne, and Record of the Lodoss War. I get into just about any type of anime, though, except the straight fighting stuff (martial arts and Samurai-style are OK, though--I really like Rurouni Kenshin).
And real quick, me: I live in Central Illinois (Bloomington), am close to my family (parents and brother), and the third great passion in my life is sports, both watching (football, basketball, and the Chicago Cubs) and participating (running, biking, hiking).
Any other questions just ask! I'm looking forward to talking with everyone about our faith and anime!

Nice to meet you! *shakes hands*

Seems like that's the way so many of us got to be here, myself included. Isn't it neat how we've all been brought together like this? The Lord has really provided us with such a great forum to discuss beliefs and a favorite subject.

Got a question. Is your handle "Spirit's Word" or "Spirit Sword?" Well, regardless, great to meet you.

BOOSTER: Hey, No.1! Where's my cake?!
SNIFIT 1: Booster, Sir! There's a 70% chance the object you're standing on is a cake.
BOOSTER: What? THIS thing's a cake?

You have the power to say anything you want, so why not say something positive?
- Frank Capra

(in response to an interview question "Do you have a pet peeve having to do with this biz?")
People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.
- Athol Dickson

Uh... never mind. I'll let someone else give you chocolate. Seems it doesn't preserve well in pockets. (But it would give Golum something to think about.)

OK. I'm granting spiritsword a virtual deck of genuine CAA trading cards. They're guarenteed to only go UP in value!

Let's see, I have a new deck for each new person. Who else want's one?

Hi!
Thanks for all the welcomes, as well as the gooey-delicious chocolate and uh, kupo nuts...oh, and those trading cards--who exactly is pictured on those?
inkhana, regarding my username, I ran all the letters together like that intentionally, so you can interpret it either way. Who knows which one it really is, or both...?
Oh, and in my haste to introduce myself, I forgot my end of the bargain--the required newbie-question. Lest that time-honored tradition be forgotten, here it is (seriously):
How do get an avatar next to your posts? I was thinking of adding a little Kenshin pic, but I'm not sure how.
Great to be here,

Everyone's deck has a unique set of pictues on it. They are more or less tripple triad cards but with CAA people, so there's lots of room for interpretation of pictures. The standard deck comes with 10 cards. I think I'll write a randomization engine so that we can get a standard list of cards with numbers. Hmm. Come to think of it, I hope I don't offend anyone if they get random low numbers! Great, now you've got me all psyched up about this!

Wow, I'm glad this thread got bumped up co-creator of the Sakura and CLAMP fan club. ^_^ I owe you a testimonial, don't I? I'm going to go work on it now...

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.
