I don't see how. Anime is for everyone. There are so many different genres, more than you can imagine. Not purely for goths at all.

I think it's a question best answered in logical terms: "some goths like anime, but not all anime fans are goths."

In other words, yes there are some goths that get into anime, but there are plenty of other goths who don't; equally, some anime fans are goths or have gothic trends, but scores more do not.

I would hardly think goths are all anime freaks. I could imagine a Goth sitting down to watch Fruits Basket or say Super Gals (now just imagine that for a second XD)

i also agree with warrior 4 jesus. there are many types of mangas and many different people read manga. manga's not solely for goths.

"All of Christian life is ceaseless worship of God the Father, through the mediatorship of God the Son, by the indwelling power of God the Spirit, doing what God commands in Scripture, not doing what God forbids in Scripture, in culturally contextualized ways, for the furtherance of the Gospel, when both gathered for adoration, and scattered for action, in joyous response to God's glorious grace."
- Mark Driscoll

"Believers do not pray with the view of informing God about things unknown to Him, or of exciting Him to do His duty, or of urging Him as though He were reluctant. On the contrary, they pray in order that they may arouse themselves to seek Him, that they may exercise their faith in meditating on His promises, that they may relieve themselves from their anxieties by pouring them into His bosom; in a word, that they may declare that from Him alone they hope and expect, both for themselves and for others, all good things."

*imagines* *laughs* What an image. XD

Anyways, everyone who's already answered has basically said what I would have said, but I guess I'll go ahead and say it anyways. XD Not all anime fans are goths (mostly because of the wide range of genre within anime), but since anime is a less-popular hobby, I think it appeals to those who want to get away from what society sees as "normal," and much of the time, those people are goths. *shrugs*

I think part of it is people who are "goth" aren't afraid to go *against* the grain when it comes to what's popular. This isn't always true (there are certainly some goths of the recent viarity that do what ever is popular among fellow 'Hot Topic goths'), but I think some of it is that they don't care as much about what sort of appearance they present to the mainstream.

As for Hot Topic selling anime merchandise...well, they're not really totally goth, y'know. ^^; I mean, I LOVE that store (Precious Miseries! <3), but a lot of the stuff they sell isn't goth, it's punk, or...some other subculture that I'm not even sure what it is. XD I think it's more that they sell stuff that's not 'the norm', rather than they're appealing particularly to goths.

...I mean, I got a white Beauty and the Beast t-shirt with flowery lettering saying "Beauty comes from within" from there. XD

I agree with MorwenLaicoriel and Ashley. I have friends that go to hot topic that are not goths, and i like anime, but i'm definitely not a goth. Some people are just want to find stuff that is not mainstream, and hot topic is definitely the place. I, on the other hand, just like anime mostly for the cartooning that is so much better than Western and I like some of the stories.

"The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."

:eyeroll:

I think the problem is we can end up stereotyping people if we're not careful.
Yes,some Goths might like anime just like some non-Goths might like
Heavy Metal Music.
It really has nothing to do with what you like as much as who you are.

I find it interesting that anime is one of those things where other people like to stereotype or label others.
