Gorillaz

Searching around, it seems there a quite a few fans of these guys (/artificial animated group?). A while back I decided to check them out (on YouTube), and I gotta say: this is pretty good.

Some, er, slightly disturbing videos, but their music is very nice and unique, with all the ways they mix together different styles (rock with rap, etc.).

If I can ever find one of their CDs, I'll definetly be picking it up.

Oh, and 2D and Noodle = awesomeness.

I have Demon Days and it's a solid piece of art.

Actually, it's really, really good.

Gorillaz are great. I want to get their first album eventually.

I'm interested in Gorrilaz. They do have a very nice sound. A big problem I ran into when listening to a few of their songs is profanity. Judging from that review, there isn't much profanity in that particular CD, so I might pick it up. :)

Yes, I like them too. BTW, two of the members have been around. The lead singer is from Blur, a British rock band, while the guy doing all the raps is none other than Del the Funky Homosapien.

You know, the thing about Plugged In is that they don't review it for musicianship and listenability. All they do is break down what's on the CD that people might offensive. They're not sensationalizing it, and I have to disagree with Jeff....they aren't really biased, they just tell what's in it. Now, their little blurbs at the end do get a little biased, but as a whole, the reviews just tell what might offend someone.

This is only true for their first album. The truth of the matter is, that the group wasn't too particularly fond of Del, and the real members of the band, Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn (the afformentioned 'guy from Blur') just didn't ask Del to come back for another album.

It's true that the first album features some profanity, including some f-words and the a-word; this is all I can remember off the top of my head. I would argue, though, that their self-titled album is better than Demon Days. More songs, some of which are just perfectly infectuous such as Re-Hash, 5/4, Tomorrow Comes Today, Clint Eastwood, Rock The House, 19-2000, and M1A1.

Myoti, if you go to your local Best Buy (I'm sure you've got one), you should be able to find both albums, and probably for $9.99 each. Definitely a good investment.

Feel Good, Inc. is awesome from start to finish. I love that dang song. De La Soul's rhymes on it are so good.

I really need to get their self-titled when I get paid this week.

Funny you say that, because I don't. ^_^
I could drive 30 minutes to the nearest one, but I'm not sure I'd want to do that for one CD. Why must our Wal-mart (biggest store in this town) suck so much...?

And yes, Feel Good Inc. is awesome, though the video was a bit... odd. Not as much as "Rock It" though. That one left me disturbed. =<

I've actually gotten to where I don't mind some profanity as much, but I care more on the content (like if it was all about sex or something, then no thanks), and many of the songs are pretty darn good so I kind of... look past that for now. >_>

Thirded.

Oh, and I like the Gorillaz, and also need to pick up their self-titled sometime.

I would never buy their self-titled from Wal-Mart. I hate that Wal-Mart only carries edited albums. I feel like edited albums are just the same as plagiarism... I know they're not the same, but edited albums to me just seem like cheap ripoffs. Thirty minutes is quite a drive for it, but if you like the music, it's well worth it, IMO. And I don't think any of the language in the self-titled album is sexually oriented, so don't worry about that.

Also, if anyone wanted to know who did the beats for Demon Days, current Gnarls Barkley (sp?) noisemaker Danger Mouse did them (Nice guy too, met him at the LA Film festival)

Danger Mouse is pretty much a quality human being. Anyone who would combine the Beatles' White Album and Jay-Z's Black Album is okay by me.

I got their self-titled album way back when it came out. Aside from being a CD like no other, it's actually quite sentimental for me. I also picked up Demon Days earlier this year. Although I wasn't sure what to think of it after the first listen, it quickly grew on me and I really love it now.

The first album has a couple f-bombs, warranting a parental advisory. If memory serves, the enhanced content on the CD-ROM had some nasty stuff on it too. But I got the edited version from Walmart, which took care of the lyrics. As for Demon Days, I think it just has a few A-words from the guest rappers.

The only thing I would tell anyone who's interested in buying their CD's, is to keep an open mind. Every song does not sound like Clint Eastwood or Feel Good Inc. Gorillaz have no genre, and their music can go from hip-hop to latin ballads to punk rock to instrumental, etc. But if you can appreciate it for what it is, and give them a couple listens, I think you'll find both albums enjoyable.

I can't speak for the "G-Sides" or "Space Monkeys vs. Gorillaz." I haven't heard them. But their 2 LP's are pretty brilliant.
