Harvest Moon anyone?

Postby Hitokiri » Sun Feb 08, 2004 7:09 pm

Anyone really into Harvest Moon? A RPG-eque game where you're in charge of rasing a fram and also a family in some of the games. I just started playing Harvest Moon: Back to Nature for PS1 but I'm very syked and excited bout Harvest Moon: It's a Wonderful Life for GCN.

Here are some screenshots from Harvest Moon Farm

Oooo! I CAN'T WAIT TILL AWL COMES OUT! Wooo...I've got every HM game except those on Gameboy and the SNES. Infact, the only reason I got a playstation or a ps2 was for Harvest Moon.

Hmm... I've been quite burnt out on Harvest Moon as of recently... so much I planned on not getting a copy of HM:IAWL. But... this game looks interesting. It seems more expanded than any of the other ones. I may end up giving it a whirl.

Harvest Moon...a good thing. I like it...:) But how in the world can tending crops and feeding animals be so ADDICTIVE? *pulls hair, unable to fathom why*

Hmm, I know of part of them, but I doubt I know of every single one, but here goes.

Harvest Moon (original) SNES
Harvest Moon (2 and 3, I guess?) GB/GBC
Harvest Moon - Friends of Mineral Town GBA
Harvest Moon - Back to Nature (PS)
Harvest Moon - Save the Homeland (don't know...ask Gypsy)
Harvest Moon - It's a Wonderful Life (GC)

Feel free to add to my list or make corrections...:)

I've only played the First game and the first gameboy game... The original for SNES rocked and the gameboy one sucked... SNES was more RPG, gameboy was more sim... I like the RPG aspect...

Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland is for PS2. Then, nearly all the versions have an alternate for...like AWL, there's a HM: AWL For Girls. Almost all of them have one that's made for girls. That way they dont' have to play as a guy and marry a girl...it can be viceversa. I know about nearly EVERY Harvest Moon game there is...meh...I'm a Harvest Mootaku.

EDIT: Oh yes, Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town is just a port of HM64 to the Gameboy Advance.

I want to get it, but I'm getting Metal Gear Solid for the cube, instead. Looks like a good game, though. The Harvest Moon series are great!

Well, the basic premise is the same for each game. Don't expect a wild, hugely developed plot, but somehow it's charming in its simplicity...:) Basically, you have acquired a farm, in a number of varying ways according to the game, and it's your job to care for it. There are what you might call "subplots" littered here and there, often dealing with a single townsperson, and very often a girl (if you're playing as a guy, that is). Your reaction to these events can have a range of effects: you could acquire something new or possibly even get your girlfriend to like you better. And...that's about it...^^;; Each person has their own tiny story put into the larger framework of the game, so like I said, there isn't tons of RPG-style plot development.

Harvest Moon is an extremely simple yet complicated game. It sounds so boring at first, but once you start playing it gets addictive.

I've played Harvest Moon 64 and am playing Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. Despite the numerous typos, the latter is also quite good. I can't wait for the Gamecube version: A Wonderful Life.

A bit of trivia: In Japan, they made a version of Friends of Mineral Town for girls. The storyline is the same, except now you get to pick one of the five guys from the town. I think there may be a few other differences, but I'm not sure.

Favorite girl, anyone? Mine in both is Karen because she's sweet. Even though she's rather gruff in the 64 version, she's quite cool once you get on friendly terms...

*sigh* I do so love the Harvest Moon games. Many an hour has been happily lost to running around watering plants and feeding chickens. Alas ... my poor chickens had such ... horrible names. BBQ, Fried, and Baked being some of them.

I started on HM2 on my GB emulator, but had to lay off for a while to get other things done (taking care of kids, housework, homework, you know all the things that get in the way of gaming  ) It's incredibly addictive, and I can't wait to get the new one for the Cube.

I love Harvest Moon. I played and played and played and played the one for the 64. Karen was my faveorite. I liked her spunk, and she reminds me of my real-life g/f. Yeah, my chickens had odd names like, Bob. :)
