I wanted to list some Gilbert and Sullivan, but that would have been cheating - I never saw a performance or movie, so I couldn't post it. I have their music on CD, but never saw a performance.
That said, I myself am a very model of a modern major general...

I wish I had chances to see plays live...But much to my dismay, I've only seen them on TV. Ones like The Phantom of the Opera and Evita.

topic ressurection!!! I just found it.
I love musicals!! Some of my favorites are Mulan, Moulin Rouge, The Sound of Music, The King and I, Mama Mia (someone needs to make a movie out of this one!), and Beauty and the Beast. I really want to see Avenue Q (I have the soundtrack) but haven't been able to yet.
But my favorite musical of all time happenes to be a musical that no one else has mentioned yet ^^. *drum roll* lol.

My favorite musical is deffenately Moulin Rouge... in fact I think that is the ONLY musical I actually like. Unless you call things like Nightmare Before Christmas a musical.
The Phantom of the Opera was decent I guess but it could have been soooo much better IMO and I really don't care for that kind of singing. The walk down the phantoms lair when they're singing "Phantom of the Opera" was awesome though.
The other night I watched the new "Producers" and it was horrid... I thought it'd be more like Moulin Rouge but I was sadly mistaken.

One single favorite is extremely hard, but since practically everyone has listed multiple titles I will as well. I'll admit I'm kind of a snob and prefer most any stage production over the movie.

I would consider any film or play that uses both spoken dialog and songs sung by the cast to provide setting, character depth, and to advance the plot a musical. Just singing a song in the middle or in the back ground does not make a musical in my mind.

I saw a small song sequence from that somewhere and I sure hope that gets made into a movie. Or I can somehow see the show. Cause it looks like it could make a great musical (movie) if its done right and the whole premise seems pretty interesting.

Actuallyyyy, I hear they are making a movie version of it (kind of like they did with Phantom of the Opera and Rent). This is wonderful news for me, since I don't live anywhere near New York or 42nd Street, and even if I did, it's not like I'd have the money to go see a Broadway play. XD I can't wait until it's released, though!
