Konban wa!!! My cheesy introduction.

Postby Mushishi » Tue Aug 15, 2006 9:30 pm

First off, I love you guys.

Secondly, I wanted to say this is an awesome forum. I love it. *marvels around self* I am in awe.

As a quick background of myself, I was earlier a Theravada Buddhist. Then, by the grace of God, I became a Christian on 1/18/04. I've always known God; just never to the extent that I know him now. I love Christian apologetics and philosophical literature; names like Dosteovsky, Kierkegaard, and Chesterton litter my coffee table. (I'm currently reading Crime and Punishment- one of Fyodor's greatest works)

After reading thorough philosophical literature from both sides of the spectrum- from atheist to theist, with some betrand russel agnosticism thrown in there- I've realized that those philosophies besides Christian theism are bankrupt.

Christian philosophers, quite figuratively, own those atheists.

As I've said, I love philosophy. I'm a relatively liberal christian, though I love all of humanity the same, especially my Christian brethren. When it comes right down to it, the words conservative and liberal do not mean much in the eyes of God. We all know the truth, anyway, eh?

Any Christian- Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, what have you- is welcome in my book. I love all of you guys. My personal Christian interpretation most closely represent the Celtic Christianity movement, where there is a lack of strict hierarchy and a belief that God is revealed not only through scripture but also through nature. Love's a big part of it too, but love is found wherever Christ is. ^_^

I also love anime. I watch shows such as School Rumble, Mushishi (of course), Tenchi Muyo, Bleach, Chrono Crusade, Chobits, Ah My Goddess and much more.

I practice Chayon-ryu, Kumdo, and foil fencing.

Lastly, before I bore everyone to death, I am an avid musician. I play the didgeridoo, djembe, bodhran, recorder, Taiko drums (hachijo style) and I'm dabbling with the tabla.

Phew. *catches breath* Anyway. ahah, ^_^;; I guess what I was getting at is that I'm happy to be here.

*waves*

Arigato! Chayon-ryu is a relatively new style that blends Hapkido, Taekwondo, Jiu-jitsu, and several other deeply traditional kungfu styles into one huge contemporary traditional style, if that makes any sense at all. All of our forms, numbering, etc is in korean, though. I love it because of its practicality and...tradition! We do some fairly complex yet entertaining forms, especially the palgue's and double sided forms.

Kumdo is essentially kendo with a korean name and a little korean terminology. Everything else is exactly the same, or from what I can tell.

(-_-)

And fencing is that strange sport in which myself and another person put on white padded clothes and a basket mask and charge at each other waving a wiry sword. Foil is a distinct swordplay style of it that is compact, succinct, and predominately stabbing. I never really slash (as in sabre), but It's usually a parry, reposte [stab], ad infinitum.

*pants from word exhaustion* GOMEN!!!! I hardly realize how much I type when I start. =_= Anyway, I recommend all of these!! Extremely fun and useful. Except some parts of Kumdo and fencing (mainly the sword part hehe)

Wow, such a long introductory. That's so awesome. ^.^ I hope you have a great time here and make sure you come in the chat sometime. If you need anyone to talk to, send me a PM. o.o/

Ooh, I've heard of Foil Fencing before. Doesn't the actual sparring only take a few seconds? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm using only memory here. XD;

Milliseconds. Gammaseconds. I just made the second word up, but what I'm getting at is that sometimes it is terribly fast. Especially if you are at an open tourney and having the unfortunate luck of facing the number 1 seed first round. =_=

I hate when that happens. Anyway,

Arigato gozaimasu for the welcome, Crimson Mithrandir and everyone else! Good to be here. *sips tea*

AAAHHH!! POCKY!!! *devours*

Arigato, Swordguy. I heard much about C.S. Lewis. I've only had the pleasure of beginning mere Christianity...I must follow your advice and complete it! ^.^

I love the didg, Magnus. Around the eclectic art college scenes in the U.S., you shall find the didg is extremely popular. I didn't know that until I bought it; I just loved the sound of it. *shrug*

Circular Breathing....I have not fully conquered to the extent of playing for over 3 minutes or so. *shakes fist* But I shall get there soon enough!!!

It's a pleasure to be read your intro this fine morn, becoming acquainted with a man of your musical expertise. I enjoy music as well, but I fear that my arsenal of instruments is not nearly as exotic as yours. Heard of a didg but I can't remember what it is... I'll have to look that one up.

Hey, welcome to CAA, hope you have a TON of fun here! \^o^/

I LUFF music!!!!! XDD I play the piano(have for about 5 years), a tiny bit of mountain dulcimer and hammer dulcimer, I can play a G chord and the James Bond Theme on the guitar, and I play the bowed Psaltery!!! If you don't know what the last one is, here's some info: http://www.earlymusic.i12.com/general/prod_10.htm

Also, C.S. Lewis IS a REALLY great author! I love the Chronicles of Narnia! XD I've read the first few pages of The Screwtape Letters, but it was a couple of years ago, so I didn't really get it. Another good author, even though he didn't write philosophy (at least not that I know of...) is J.R.R. Tolkien!! XD The Lord of the Rings are awesome books if you ever read them. XD (Another cool thing that I like about him is that he's Catholic like me! XD) So anyway, welcome to CAA! Glad to have you here! ^^//
