Silent Hill 2

Man, that Fog is the freakist thing ever... and I LOVE fog.

I don't know how scary the game is though... freaky, but maybe not scary... though I still jumped today taping some of the game to tease my sister and her husband with.....

BTW, it's not so much the hit system that was the problem with the chainsaw... it's the amount of time it takes between when you hit the attack key and when it actually strikes what you're aiming for..... tried using it on most things and I'd get hit (which inturrupts your swing) before it made contact.

Oh, to get James to do the yell thing with the chainsaw, just let him stand there for a while or is there something else? I'm assuming it's one of those things the character does when you let them stand there not doing anything for a while (like in Alice on the PC when she'd play with the "toys" if left standing for too long).

I've been playing it for a while, and I'm starting to get more into it. As for fog, it just really doesn't scare me that much. The mannequin didn't scare me either. (Actually, I was expecting something to happen when I grabbed the flashlight)

Well, fog only scared me AFTER playing these games. As for the mannequin, the Mannequins in SH2 are sorta creepy, but the mannequin scene in SH3 made me jump out of my chair... Of course, that's alot of the "cheap scare" and a little bit of the "deep scare." [spoiler=sh3 mannequin]It's still a bit more because you thought at first that the mannequins were just mannquins... It was obvious that the legs were enemies in SH2, because they glistened. The SH3 mannequin scene gave you no such warning[/spoiler]

Has anyone tried killing the mannequin in SH2 before you grabbed the light?

Just as the SH series is a different type of scare from the RE series, even between SH2 and SH3, it's different... Sh2 is more fear about what man is capable of and what we can hide, while SH3 is more about memories of things done to us... A child's fears, I suppose. So SH2 is about guilt while SH3 is about suffering, I suppose?

I was initially expecting an RE clone, but Silent Hill seems to use a much better scare tactic: The unknown. The thing is, you never have any idea what's going to jump out at you next, and sometimes you'll hear odd noises that you have no idea where they are coming from. The whole game is unsettling. You never feel safe. But actually, I like the way it was done. It seems more original than the cheap scare tactics used in Resident Evil.


EDIT: I've been playing for a while... and this game is REALLY starting to freak me out. :sweat:

I re-recorded the beginning of the game again.... the footsteps behind you on the path from the cemetary to the town is really freaky, but I think you need to be running to hear them, if you walk too slowly they stop.

I'm beginning to wonder about me... I'm really not into this sort of thing, but I think I like SH2..... shudder scary thought.

I was talking about all the Resident Evil games in general, the first one, however, is different from the rest in terms of highest scare factor.

There are special things, pretty specfic and quite creative (especially the "in water" ending) so I would finish it once yourself before going to the walkthroughs to get the other endings you missed.

I will attempt to get the different endings after I beat it... Which of the endings does the best job of explaining what's going on? Note: I am past the Brookhaven Hospital part now.

Gee.. um, I think it's the Leave ending.... For some reason, I think the In Water ending has you getting most of the information. I played it about 2 years ago so I may be wrong.

Hey now. GamePro voted RE (remake) for Gamecube the #1 scariest game. Silent Hill ? was in 3rd I think.


And Nintendo power said Final Fantasy was a (boring, was the insinuation) movie you watched while Zelda 64 was an adventure starring YOU the hero! People are into different things. Resident Evil has never scared me. Silent Hill has. Resident Evil was boring to me. Silent Hill was interesting. It's a matter of taste. I have it and you don't CHA-CHING, no I'm just kidding. It's just a matter of prefference.

On a graphical note, despite the cube's awesome power, I dislike Capcom's modeling/animation/bitmapping work in general... SH3 has much better of each of those considering its weaker console. Once again, just a matter of taste.

I broke out into a cold sweat every time I ran into Nemesis...

especially when I thought I had ditched him in the Newspaper Publishing building and he jumped out of the window from above and landed in front of me... o_O

Actually, RE3 didn't scare me as much till I tried Hard Mode.... O_o

I don't think you ever completely understand SH2, maybe playing SH1 might help, but I can't be sure.... I don't have a Playstation, and they haven't ported it to the XBox :D

Doesn't the "In Water" ending require that you play "like you just don't care," running through most of the game in the Red and running through one of the last corridors?

I think I kinda played by my own personality and whatnot (based on the info of the game, or whatever) and got the Leave ending.... but I tend to try to keep as "full health" as I can, as well as what I was focused on led me to not pay too much attention to Maria.

Cool (yet dark and disurbing) game, got to play it again and see if I can get the Dog ending at least....

There's a few more requirements for In Water, like being a bit more suicidal..

... and I really think that's a creative way to get different endings ^^ I think you also have to hit Maria a few times, LOL XD Hey, rumor has it that the Resurrection ending is what pretty much started the mess again in SH3--but personally I don't think so.

No, I played it. Never beat it because it bored me.

I admit, though, I wouldn't have beaten SH2 if I hadn't loved SH3 so much, because right about the time of the first puzzle (the clock puzzle) I was really getting bored because I was lost. Playing SH3 kept me intersted enough to beat SH2 despite some things I didn't like about it. I could not say the same thing for the Clock Tower games... Grr... That, and the fact that every pivitol scene in the game has somethind to do with her skirt flying back to show off a bit too much... So, RE was still better than Clock Tower.

I just finished SH2... pretty good game. I'm definately checking Gamestop for the original game next time I'm there.

Hey, RE isn't *that* bad! It's just different XD Hehe, anyway, Chris played SH1 yet? Eventhough it's way off in the graphic departement, it still has some great gameplay and scares.

Clock Tower.... was interested by the cover but after playing 5 mintues of it decided not to buy ^^;;
