Joshua Christopher wrote:If you say that, you can technically argue that if one character throws a punch at another, it's still just as bad as gallons of blood.

NO... that's not what I was saying at all. I said, when compared to something worse, of course it seems better because it IS less severe. It's not JUST AS BAD, but that doesn't make it good.

Mr. SmartyPants wrote:Nevertheless. you make it sound worse than it really is.

Like I said before, I am more sensitive to fanservice because I haven't come across much of it in my anime watching history. You, who have come across more of it, are less sensitive to it, as are other anime watchers.

Joshua Christopher wrote:Within the context of TMoHS, I think it is necessary to advance at least the characters, to be honest.

If fanservice ever becomes necessary to a plot... then that plot shouldn't exist in the first place. I don't think it's necessary in TMoHS

Again, guys, how much fan service a person watches in ENTIRELY upto them and the Holy Spirit. Some people who have certain recurring struggles with sexual temptations may need to stay away from even the most minimal fanservice, while other people have less of a struggle with sins of this nature might be able to watch an anime with more fan service without being tempted to sin. The line which defines too much fan service is not one which is set in concrete, nor is it a relative line which is drawn based on the level of fanservice in other shows. It is draw by each individual after careful examination of their own spirit. To say that anyone is over reacting to fan service is to question the Spirit of God's conviction in their lives. As the old adage says "Different strokes for different folks."

With that said, Gents, I think this subject has probably gone far enough. All future discussion of the appropriateness or inappropriateness of Ms. Suzumiya can be taken to PM. Any discussion of the plot or any other related chit-chat may now continue.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. Either way you throw it, you've got to remember that some people are offended more easily than others, or are offended by different things. If Linksquest doesn't want to watch Haruhi because he's offended by the fanservice, then don't try to tell him he's wrong for not watching it. It's just a show, after all, it's not like his watching this show will dramatically affect any of your lives. If he doesn't want to watch it, fine, that's his choice, just like it's your choices to watch it. I vote we just drop the subject, anyhow...I think the issue of Haruhi and fanservice has already been discussed, anyways (by most of the same members, I might add).

Anyways, I've still got to get the time to watch this show. XD I may torrent some eps once I clear away some of my older Utawarerumono episodes. :thumb:

EDIT: Whoops, sorry, I must have posted this message while Osaka was posting hers. Disregard it if it's considered further discussion. :thumb:

There's all kinds of Haruhi dances on youtube. I've seen ones with hand-made cartoons, clay catpeople figures, Gundam action figures, Japanese boys who think they're FBI agents, cosplayers of all sorts, and male playboy bunnies. Oh, and this really cute Harehareyukai Girl's High AMV:

That part of the series was really good... the music was incredible!

Well I finished the series today... I'll be the first to admit I was wrong... It really was only 14 eps. long.

A very interesting anime to say the least. A little too fanservicey still, but it makes you think.

I watched the first episode on youtube yesterday.

First 1.5 minutes: "Mikuru fails at singing."
Next 19.5 minutes: "........The freck?"
Last 2 minutes: "Ohhhh."

I'll keep watching, but I can't say I'm impressed.

Its interesting, weird & kinda crazy, i'm enjoying it quite a bit, i didn't feel the fanservice was that bad, so far i'm just over halfway through the series. i liked the whole island trip episodes, and i'm wondering what other zaniness is gonna be going on before i finish teh series.

Just a random fun fact for all the other Honey and Clover fans who are also fans of this show-- did anybody realize that Kyon's seiyuu is also Mayama fromm H&C? I didn't figure it out until later when I read it in an article. I couldn't believe I didn't make such an obvious connection. Personally, I think Kyon's narration in this show made it what it was, so, mad props to the Seiyuu.
