Codec problems.

Postby KrescentMoon » Mon Jun 26, 2006 8:50 pm

The other day I downloaded a Japanese music show with Utada Hikaru as a guest, but much to my displeasure, the video wasn't playing. The other downloaders commented that they were having the same problem, and one person said that the "H624" (I think, too lazy to check) codec was needed. The person added that it was a common codec; thus I searched the web for the needed codec.

I found Storm Codec. After installing it, I was able to watch the video; not too comfortably, however, as the video was moving very slowly. But that's beside the point.

I homeschool via DVDs and use BSPlayer to watch my classes, but now with this codec installed, I can't see my classes for more than 9 minutes (when each video is 40-45 minutes long).

Perhaps a screenshot would aid you, dear techies.

Analyzing this change, I thought that uninstalling Storm Codec would fix everything.

Wrong.

I've tried over and over, but no luck. The procedure halts whenever it gets to this thing called "Haali Splitter."

I urgently need solutions otherwise continuing my studies will be difficult.

It sounds like part of the program is still in memory. Can you boot into safe mode and uninstall it?

try the following

http://www.videolan.org VLC. Various codecs that work well. Arguably the best video-player ever.

Also try media player classic, it works the best for me when I need to play some videofiles encoded by a certain subgroup

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediaplrclss

Sorry to not have been much help!

yeah, I was gonna say that VCL is your best bet. It does wonders for troublesome videos.

I tried uninstalling the codec in Safe Mode and it did not work.

I just tried VLC player, and it still plays less than half an hour. Just fourteen minutes, to be more precise. And this is with each class.

:(
