I saw, pretty much, one good looking game out of the many that I played on the 64: Zelda... So, with a lot of creativity, it was possible for the N64 stuff to be really pretty, but...

Good thing, too... If PSP was outselling DS, N would have rushed to make ANOTHER portable, and we'd have generation wars in portables, and MORE hardware to buy... This may happen anyhow, if MS gets in the game with portables... (curse them if they do...)

Actually, some news about the price of the Wii came out today I think.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/5016838.stm

Japanese price is confirmed to be at most 25000 yen and $250 or less in the States. It's very likely we'll see $200 US since that's the price that Nintendo's launched at the past few times.

Six months? Is this official? October or November (if it was October that'd be freakin' awesome... though I'd be buying it for my own b-day XD )?

They can't afford to get it out any later than November if they want it in the market for Christmas gifts. So I figure sometime between the end of October and mid November.

I was just checking out the current lineup of release games, and I must say that it is rather impressive indeed o.o Zelda, Mario, Smash bros., Metroid, even a Trauma Center sequel! Looks like it's gonna be the year of the Wii ^^

How can it be the year of the Wii when it comes out one month before the end of the year? :P ;)

At any rate, your info is incorrect. Zelda and Metroid Prime 3 will indeed be launch titles, as well as the sequel to Trauma Center.

However, Super Mario Galaxy will not be a launch title, though it will be released within 90 days of the launch of the system. Likewise, Smash Bros. will probably not be out until early 2007.

Oh really? On IGN, Galaxy was in there with the others as a launch title. But you're right, Smash Bros. wasn't in there now that I think about it. Oh and it can still be year of the Wii even with just a couple months under its belt XD That's just how cool it is.

I've been seeing alot of this lately on the internet.

It seems GI is going to have another Wii based issue.

Take it like a grain of salt, for now, but if it's all true... x_X

anyway, here's the info. Now, let's wait for that new issue. :)

(Taken from Nintendo forums)

[quote]This article from the upcoming Game Informer magazine focuses on the pros and cons of the development environment of the upcoming Nintendo Wii. As well as revealing the last big secret concerning hardware functionality. Here are some summarizations from that article.

-Pros-

-Inexpensive graphics development.

I fail to see any problem. So some 3rd party company's won't make games for it. Any company that's afraid to step up to the plate on this system doesn't deserve to make a game for it anyway. Or, something like that. I'm sure everything about the Wii will be way cooler than we can imagine, 3rd party or not.

The reason I'm posting, though: Does anyone else think that the Wii would be perfect for a huge MMORPG? What with the 24/7 wi-fi connection and all, I think it'd be cool.

I disagree, for the simple fact that there are lots of really crappy third party games on other systems. The problem is, that Nintendo is challenging parties to develop unique and innovative uses for the controller. Now, let's say Capcom over here wants to make a Megaman game, but don't really know how to incorporate the controller's unique functions into the game. Is this because Capcom is "afraid?" No, they know they just can't think of a way to use this function.

Now, crappy third party publishers aren't really going to care about the unique functions. And especially if the rumors are true that Wii will be cheaper to develop for than the PS3 or 360, this is a huge boon to lame third party games. Instead of going the extra mile and using the controller in truly innovative ways, they just slap on some "sword swinging" functionality and release a subpar game.

And this worries me. I don't want to see the Wii flooded with horrible third party games. I know they exist on every system, but I'm sure we all want to see a minimum. I'm also worried we'll have 50 "swing the controller and your dude swings a sword" type games, and after swinging the controller as a sword for the 1,000th time gets boring, what's left?

I don't think it's fair, for those who are truly worried they can't think of unique functionality for the controller in their games, to say "they don't deserve to make games for the system," because this isn't going to be the case sometimes. Innovation takes time usually.

That's true, but the same thing could be said about the DS, and so far the ratio of awesome games to lame games on the DS is greatly in favor of the cool games. And plus, 3rd party developers don't HAVE to incorporate the unique functionality if it doesn't really fit with the game. Like Advance wars DS. It didn't really incorporate the touch screen in any groundbreaking way (it barely even used it at all) but it was still a great, solid game.
Yes, the Wii will have lots of unique functionality, but it also supports core gaming like it is on the current generation systems.
And you're right, there most likely will be quite a few lame crappy games, but that can be said of any system. Ps2, Xbox, Gamecube, any system has it's very fair share of lamo games.

-A still-in-development simple dev tool will be made available to users through the Connect24 network. It will allow users to create a simple game in 2D or simple 3D and share it with the world. This will hopefully be available on the network by launch.

That's a great plus for me personally. :thumb:

The Wii sounds like a great system to make like a console MMORG. ;)

I honestly don't think it sounds like a great platform for MMO's. The demographic that this is going to mainly appeal to isn't likely to spend the $10-15 per month. Even if any potential MMO's take a Guild Wars free route and make money with expansions that's just another thing that won't appeal to Wii purchasers as a whole.

Then there's the issue about storage neccesary for an MMO. The Wii has 256mb for storage standard I believe is that correct anyone? That would fill up pretty quickly in future updates and such. Even though I believe I read there will be bigger storage devices availible in the gigabyte range that's just another thing somebody shouldn't have to buy to play a game.

On top of that Wii's service supports non broadband connections which should be fine for some games but for an MMO it's deffinetly not. Even for a game like Ragnarok that's not super heavy graphically it would run like a nightmare. I remember trying to playing Asheron's Call on a 56K...awful. Unless they did what Sony did with SOCOM as in restrict online play to broadband users.

The simple dev tools sound pretty sweet though and a fun idea.

I know...never said I agreed with Microsoft's strategy of having two different SKU's one hardriveless. Same with Sony's two options though both have hardrives. But this is the Wii thread so it should stay on the Wii agreed?

Actually if the big N did make a console MMO, I doubt there'd be a monthly charge. Think about it, the DS Wi-fi is free, the Wii Wi-fi will also be free, so why would they charge for using the Wi-fi to play an MMO?
As for the hard drive, you may be right. I envision some sort of memory sticks coming into play...

If Nintendo made it, probably not. But I think if a third party developer makes it, it's up to them whether or not they want to charge a monthly fee, and most of them do...so if it wasn't made by Nintendo, there probably would be a monthly charge.

In the end, though, I agree with Jimbo's third paragraph.

Ya know what? I don't care if the Wii has a crappy name and goofy controller anymore.

I'm completely sold on the download function.

Downloading and playing all my fave oldschool games for NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, ect. is gonna rock so hard. I'll probably not be going out of my room for awhile. ;)

What would be totally awesome... is if companies took the time to translate and release games for download never were originally released in America.

Azier's list of games that need to be downloadable for the Wii:

Final Fantasy 1-6 original versions.

Earthbound.

Seiken Densetsu 3.

Chrono Trigger.

Clock Tower. (SNES)

Lunar 1 and 2.

Lufia 1 and 2.

Castlevania X: Rondo of Blood. (Turbo-Grafx)

Soul Blazer Trilogy (For the love of God, Square-Enix, this INCLUDES Terranigma.)

More interesting news.

http://www.codenamerevolution.com/?p=803

Both Havok and ATI, companies that are supporting Wii, have created a new GPU/PPU. Makes me wonder how the real graphics and physics of the Wii are going to be, since it (I think) has been confirmed that Wii has a PPU and one of the people at ATI described the graphics at E3 to be "The tip of the Iceberg."
