The Most Awesome Metal Band EVER!!!

Postby Zarn Ishtare » Fri Jun 02, 2006 5:25 am

My friends, put away Metallica, forget Anthrax, and ignore all those emoish rap/rockers, I have pure metal goodness for YOU!!

Sonata Arctica.

Who is SA, you ask? Well, their a Finnish band who has done everything from cover Metallica's "Fade To Black", to singing about lycanthropy (Werewolfism). This band is freaking awesome in every way, shape, and form. Currently, I'm listening to "Full Moon" and "Kingdom For a Heart", but I have listened to almost EVERY song from them, and let me tell you...
IT'S ALL GOOD. If your want a purity in your metal the likes of which hasn't been seen since Led Zep retired after John Bonhams unfortunate demise, find this band and listen to it. With their Idyllic fountainhead of literary inspiration, and their very attractive symbolisms (Wolfs, Ravens And Werewolves oh my!) this is more then your average foriegn metal band. If you want pure rock, say no to Norwegian Death Metal, and say hello to the Operatic-like performances of Sonata Arctica! Get your SA today!

(1000 bonus points to whoever figures out what their name means)
With your doubt, all is comfort
We are all as we appear
No more questions left unanswered
No more wonder, no more fear
Nothing is beauty, nothing's feeling
Blood where there once was a soul
So I ask you, prove yourself
Make me believe that you are whole

Norwegian Death Metal? Hahahahahahahahaha. Not sure I like any of them.

Sonata Arctica!! I love them!!
My finnish friend made me know that band giving me their songs! They're really awesome!!
She also made me know about another cool finnish band : Lordi, the rock band that won this year Eurovision with the song 'Hard Rock Halleluja'.

They are certainly metal. This is power metal. Look at bands like Rhapsody, Gamma Ray, Iron Maiden, and similar groups.

Sonata Arctica is a good band. I like them. In fact, I have the same album that Zarn refers to with "Kingdom For a Heart" and "Full Moon", which are both favorites of mine as well. While I cannot profess to think quite as highly of them as Zarn does, I do consider them to be quite good. Even if they do have some pretty lame lyrics at times (eg. "Blank File" <shudders>).

Anyway, if you like this kind of music, try some of the bands mentioned above. Especially Rhapsody, who are very similar in sound to SA. Also try Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, Manowar, Saxon, and Helloween. Note that I cannot vouch for all the lyrics - these bands are usually clean but may be critical of organized religion and particularly Christianity, so look before you buy.

Come on Steel...You've never listened to Tallulah and shuddered in ecstasy? *shrugs*
Oh well, more SA for me...

And Blank File is good if you give it a chance. You want really good SA? Check Wolf and Raven (My Theme) or their cover of "Fade To Black" which totally destroys Metallica's original version, but in a good way.

Well, the music for "Blank File" is fine. It's just the lyrics that are cringe-worthy. But to each his own I suppose.

Also, I find it hard to believe that they could play "Fade to Black" better than Metallica. That is a fairly tall order. Metallica was a genre defining band along with Megadeth. More than likely, SA had some influence from Metallica's work as most metal bands today do. However, having not heard SA's version, I will sagely reserve judgement on the matter until I have.

I do like SA, as I have said, though. They are a talented outfit, to be certain. And I encourage you to take a look at the other bands I mentioned if you like what they do.

Just because something isn't "hard" doesn't always mean it is not metal. Not all metal has to be screaming/growling while wailing on thier instruments. That is why I prefer bands like these and goth metal bands because it's just not a wall of pointless noise.

Sonata Arctica is one of my favorite power metal bands, although I don't listen to very much power metal. I much prefer death metal; I have 170 death metal cds (takes up 36% of my collection).

I have the Album "Reckoning Night." Mediocre overall. Maybe half the songs were good and half were totally lame. Didn't think they were good enough to get any more of their stuff.

Wow... I can't believe I've never heard of them before. I'll have to check these guys out later. I only listened to a handful of the stuff they have on their site and they sound pretty decent.

But yea, not incredibly amazing... good but Blind Guardian pwns these guys :P

Blind Guardian? I'll take that, and raise you Dragonforce's "through The Flames".
