The Best of '03!

Postby Link Antilles » Thu Jan 01, 2004 8:52 pm

So, I was wonder what you think the best games '03 are....

Here's my list of favorites I played this year:

Best PC games:
1. Call of Duty - The Best WW II game I've played... evar! Next year, we'll see if Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault can over take it.

2. Command and Conquer: Generals: Zero Hour - So..... addictive...

3. War Craft III: the frozen Throne - I've never been so bad at a game before like this, yet I still play it.

4. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Awesome game! The graphic are better than the X-box and the interface is sweet. Also, I've never seen or well... heard so much dialogue in a game before. The only real downside is.. I hear it's really buggy on some PCs. Runs fine on my PC.

5. Halo - Nothing to say new here, except I survive longer on legendary mode than on easy in War Craft III.

Best all-system games:
1. Beyond Good and Evil - I'd recommend it to everyone... if it wasn't so short!

2. Prince of Persia - A classic reborn! The Matrix meets Mario... with a sword!

3. Soul Calibur 2 - This time it's not Soul Calibur I!

4. Freedom Fighters - Third-person Red Alert 2

5. Burnout 2: Point of Impact - Who actually tries not to crash in this game?

Best Gamecube games:
1. Zelda: Wind Waker - Yeah, we had our doubts. This game proves; cell shading + Zelda = FREAKIN' AWESOME GAME!

2. Viewtiful Joe = Just when thought the uniqueness in games died out

3. Mario Kart: DD - It's Mario kart! Of course it's good!

4. Ikaruga - Ahhh... the good 'ol dayz at the arcade... wasting quarter after quarter.... now, no more!

5. Rogue Squadron III - This game was prefect, until Lucasarts decided to add the gimmicky on-foot levels

Best Xbox games:
1. Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic - What's to say? I know…. this the best thing to happen to Star Wars since the Special Edition and Rogue Squadron

2. Crimson Skies - Who knew our grandparents and parents lived in such a gnarly alternate past?

3. Panzer Dragoon Orta - Why didn't people play this game?

4. Project Gotham Racing 2 - Finally, a new X-box live title

5. Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War - Resident Evil meets Medal of Honor: Frontline...

Best Gameboy Advance games:
1. Mario and Luigi - Some will feel sorry for Luigi, most will laugh... I did! :)

2. Final Fantasy Tactics - To quote Penny Arcade; This game deserves the: "One more turn, Wow, it's four in the morning award"

3. Fire Emblem - A good challenge... a good challenge, indeed.... "Ok, where's the reset chapter option?"

4. Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow - I swear the main character looks like a girl! o_O

5. Advance Wars 2 - Comment from X-play: "Orange star! Yellow comet! Blue moon! Yes, Lucky Charms cereal finally has their own game!"

Game of the Year.....

1. Zelda: The Wind Waker - Duh! :P
Runners up
-Beyond Good and Evil
-Call of Duty
-Knights of the Old Republic
-Mario and Luigi

Favorite new characters;

Hk-47 from SW: Knights of the Old Republic - Gamespot:"If C-3PO were to snap one day, he might end up a lot like HK-47, the homicidal yet disturbingly polite combat droid from BioWare's excellent Star Wars RPG. We're prepared to call HK the greatest original Star Wars character in years."

Big disappointments of '03:
1. Half Life 2, Halo 2, Final Fantasy: CC, and Starcraft: Ghost…… being pushed back for release in '04 - Nooooo!!!!

2. Enter the Matrix - You've got a problem with your game if the cheat code menu is better than the main game..... yet since the word "Matrix" is slap on the cover it becomes one of the top sellers in '03.

So, now... it's YOUR turn, what's everyone's favorite games of '03?

Are we voting on these or something? Anyway, here are my nominations:

1.Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne-I agree. I can't seem to win at this, yet it is still a fun game.

2.Halo PC-keyboard=good; Xbox controller=bad.

3.Soul Calibur 2-best fighting game of the year.

I'll think of more later...first I have to figure out which games came out in 2003! :P

Hmm... Best of 2003

PS2: .hack series followed closely by "Silent Hill 3" though I'm still fuzzy on the whole issue I brought up in my posts. After that, Substance but that's just a minor update on Sons of Liberty, and it has slower loading times, so it can't be placed in the same place as "Sons of Liberty" (though you still shouldn't buy Sons of Liberty, since Substance has the whole game in it, albeit with slower loading times)

GBA: IMNSHO, I'd say "Sword of Mana" but I'm really jaded... That or FFT advanced... Talk about direct with the magic issue, though... That game'll have churches burning down square-enix's offices... Plus, I don't like the whole "goddess statue" thing in SoM... Also, while SoM uses the same story as Seiken Densetsu (though they beefed it up drastically and changed a couple points), it is a wholly different game from it's old GB predecessor... I'd love to have both, because I can't get the same sort of nostalgia with SoM as I would with playing the actual SD1 game.

Gamecube: Hmm... What came out in 2003 for GC? I don't know, because I'm not a GC person... The best currently came out in 2002, I believe, and the best upcoming is in 2004, so I don't know what was monumental in 2003...

PC: Hehehe... Not a PC gamer, here...

Xob-x Cp ym no yalp d'i semag cp detnaw I fi esuaceb ti yalp t'nod I...

BTW, I don't like the X-box controller, but I'd still rather use that than the keyboard and mouse... I like having everything in easy reach rather than having to go all over the keyboard for it, and someone good at the controller can be just as good if not better than someone on kb/mouse. My friend plays people on their keyboards all the time, and beats them with no problem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs Watch this movie なう。 It's legal, free... And it's more than its premise. It's not saying Fast Food is good food. Just watch it.

Amen.

I am much better at Halo when I am using a keyboard and mouse as opposed to the Dreamcast, er, Xbox (;)) controller. It is much easier to aim and follow a target with the mouse, especially since the joystick is too sensitive in my opinion.

Anyway, here's some more good games from 2003:

1.Armored Core 3-the latest in a great series, with a decent graphic improvement over previous titles.

2.Dynasty Warriors 4-added more customization, generals, and RPG elements. The graphics are also much better.

1. FF Tactics Advance - Very awesome game. It's an excellent time passer.

2. Soul Calibur 2 - One of the deepest fighters I've ever played. Plus, it has Nightmare. He rocks.

3. Skies: Legends - Super cool GC RPG. Not much else to say.

I've been skimping out on games lately, so I'll add more once I buy Fire Emblem. ;)

Beyond Good and Evil dropped to $20... would you say it is worth it at that price? I bought it, but I haven't played it yet...

I also recommend Prince of Persia, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Rainbow Six 3

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, don't mess with the dark side, we'll blow your planet up. no wait... there is no emotion... (X-box)

Halo (X-box), Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (GBA), Advance Wars 2 (GBA), and Zelda (GC, but man i hate all that water).
I guess to include PS2 i will say Silent Hill 3... thats prolly all i got of interest for it.. that was a 2003 release.

I've read good things about it for a while... sounded really good, but the only game I got (aside from Tony Hawk 3 as a christmas gift) was Deus Ex 2... ALMOST wish I had not gotten that now... but, meh, what can you do.

Yeah, I heard Dues Ex was a disappointer. Most say they dumbed it down for the consoles.

BTW, Beyond Good and Evil is definitely worth the $20 and I believe you can get Prince of Persia with Splinter Cell for free, now.

Yah, I just found that out today...I think I'm gonna get it, even though I already beat it... (I'm renting it) But I haven't beat Splinter Cell, so that'll be cool. And I'll be supporting Ubi for making such awesome games. (I think it's really sad when the second rate games sell more than the truly great ones... Like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.)

Yeah, good 'ol Ubi soft has done a great job this year. Kudos to them! They're one of my top pick game companies for last year.

Wait, btw, isn't Ubisoft based in France? O_o
