Showbread - Age of Reptiles

Postby Kkun » Wed May 10, 2006 9:52 pm

The new Showbread album "Age of Reptiles" drops August 1. It's going to be fantastic. I just got back from seeing them play live in my city. I've seen them seven times and after this last time, I was reminded why I love them so much. They played two new tracks off of the new CD. "Naked Lunch" is a Mouth Like A Magazine-esque fun, bouncy track. Then, the one I liked more of the two, "Oh, Emetephobia" is just absolutely fantastic. It's going to be the single off of the album. It has everything. Crunchy guitars, dancey beats, Josh and Ivory trading off between singing and screaming, a head-nodding synth line, and quite possibly the catchiest chorus to rival anything Fall Out Boy could put out, while retaining Showbread's signature raw rock.

This CD is going to be amazing. Anyone else looking forward to it?

Just to say, when you want to know something about a band, 9 times out of 10 you can just type www.myspace.com/(name of band)
or www.purevolume.com/(name of band)

In this case, I suggest you check the purevolume (http://www.purevolume.com/showbread). It has the first three songs from 'No Sir, Nihilism Is Not Practical', and two of them are available for download.

I think seven is right. I own their full-length Life, Kisses, and Other Wasted Efforts which was about a year prior to No Sir, Nihilism Is Not Practical. They had a full-length before that called Goodbye Is Forever. Then, there were a few EPs (Human Beings Are Too Shallow To Fall In Love, the Showbread EP, and Goodnight Sweetheart The Stitches Are Coming Apart). So seven sounds about right.

I didn't know they had more before Nihilism... now I need to find it all. Maybe my church's bookstore can order it. Well, here's hoping that the new one has a song as danceable as Mouth is Like a Magazine. (Seriously. If I even hear anyone hum the song, I can't stop dancing. It is a horrible, horrible sight.)

Oh, believe me, I know how that is. I think just about all of No Sir is danceable, even when they're going full-on spastic. That CD is just fantastic. Also, the two new songs I've heard (Naked Lunch and Oh, Emetephobia) are BOTH as danceable as Mouth Like A Magazine.

As for Life, Kisses, and Other Wasted Efforts, it's a lot more raw (HAR HAR). If you can get your hands on it, I'd say it's worth it. The quality is lacking because they recorded it while they were on tour, but it's still a lot of fun.

So.... do we have a reason yet for 'Mouth Like A Magazine'? Why not 'Stabbing Art To Death'? They totally could have rocked the hat trick with that one.

I know. I thought they couldn't get any better with the titles on Life, Kisses, and Other Wasted Efforts ("I Had Music In My Heart, But Now My Heart Is Broken" for instance) but they did better with No Sir, Nihilism Is Not Practical, and now the stuff on here is crazy.

I'm sure George Romero Will Be At the Wedding is going to be a touching ballad.

Also, enjoy these live videos of Naked Lunch and Oh! Emetephobia!

Yeah, I know. Honestly, all I really want right now is for them to release Oh! Emetephobia! as the single already so I can listen to it in a form that is not this live video.

Here's your wish, fulfilled.

Oh! Emetephobia!

Using your mouse, hold it at the bottom of the playlist until it scrolls down to the song.

It's really good. I've listened to it three or four times. The first time, I was horribly disappointed because of the severe lack of screaming that was in the live version, but it's a new direction for Showbread and it's going to be good. The synthesizer line is so good.
