Yeah for new reivews! Thanks PinkCow for writting the review and thank you Gypsy for editting, reading (ect) it!
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

One Piece rocked!!
I saw about 3/4 of the first season (i think), it just goes on like DB, the charcters wer really cool and because I saw it in german, the voice casting was great and they called 'Luffy'.. Ruffy, which I still like better. how cool was the reindeer guy, Zorro and Sungee (sp?). Its a good review, its more a comedy then action. I looking forward when it comes out in Oz.

Not in the US. And you'll probably have to wait a good while for the subtitled DVDs considering that 4Kids has gotten its hands on the series. *avoids a rant on the butchering of the lovely series with much effort*

I agree, Zane. Chopper, Zoro, and Sanji are all very cool. ^__^ I like Zoro best, though.

Yay, a One Piece thread! I just finished reading Volume 4, it's really good. How many are there? And how is Luffy's name pronounced? I kinda hesitate to say "Luh-ffy", I usually think "Loo-ffy". I haven't seen the anime so I don't know for sure.

edit: oh yeah, this is the anime reviews forum. oops.

I had a long post here about One Piece.. but a Database error ate it.

in summary, wait for the DVD version to come out, avoid the televised one at all costs. They decided to remove all firearms from the show. O_o Yes, you too would be afraid if the marines were pointing water guns at you.

And go with subs.. not HK subs which is what the author probably saw it as. For your enjoyment, HK said this during the Arlong Arc, 'Devildragon have no time waffle with you!' Ok, well I'm done ranting. When the uncut DVDs come out, buy this show at all costs!

Nice review. I LOVE One Piece. It is probably one of my favorite anime from the Shonen Jump group of mangas. This is a show that just keeps getting better and better.

I totally agree, TroutNinja. The voices, the music, everything is so much better if you can get ahold of the uncut version. The dubbed just doesn't capture Luffy's voice right. It makes him sound like Bozo the Clown after having sucked in a bunch of helium - it's so sad. And, the theme song... well, all of the original One Piece, like many of the Shonen anime, has great music throughout (thinking of Shaman King, Naruto, Hikaro no Go soundtracks). It's sad when they bring them over here and settle for some studio musicians who whipped something out in a session. T_T It's just too sad. They seem to think that all shonen anime need some kind of rap theme - oi!

Well, ^^;; I've said my two cents, plus a few pennies more.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

In general, just avoid anything done by 4Kids. It's enough to make anyone cry. I've simply taken to boycotting everything they've done.

It's pronounced "Loo-fy", if you want to go by the Japanese, by the way. I made a point of watching it every week in Japan when I was there. ^__^

I'm kind of afraid to watch this series, since I love the manga so much. I don't want to see it axed and butchered in any way, and at the same time, I don't know how well it will translate to the screen. But, I am always willing to give things a try, if the opportunity presents itself.

I'm a bit confused. Has the series actually reached it's "end" yet? Last I checked, it hasn't, and I thought reviews couldn't be made until the entirity of the series was available. O_o

No, it hasn't. And it's probably not even close to ending yet...

And as for the reviews, I think that only applies to the manga reviews forum.

There's a few exceptions so that rule, usally for huge, huge series. In general, partial reviews are not allowed and any partial reviews you find have the staff's approval.

Alright, that makes sense. If, when a series like this does end and something is found that might change it, does that cause the review to chane?

And as for the reviews, I think that only applies to the manga reviews forum.

The manga's farther along than the anime and it's not even close to being done, either.

Waaaaah! They ruined Sanji and Smoker! Honestly! Turning a cig into a lollipop and a mouth full of cigars into a smoking, gaping mouth!?!?!?!? I don't normally like using exclaimation marks, but this is redicalous!!! And Sanji's voice! The only one they didn't ruin was Zorro! And on a slightly unrealated topic I am still steaming over turning Hao's name from SK to Zeke!! 4Kids, you stink!

*Cough* Sorry, had to get that out of my system.

Well, I wouldn't say never. But it's probably going to be awhile. There are rumours that Viz is trying to get 4kids to let them give One Piece a Naruto-style uncut box set release, but don't get your hopes up... This is 4kids that we are talking about.

In the main fansubs being distributed on the net, there is actually a lot more language. Words like d*** and s*** tend to be more frequent in the subtitles. Since the fansub version IS the better of the series (as opposed to the HK DVD's) and they are the more frequently watched, maybe it should warrant a mention?

I would think so, though most of the cursing words seem... oddly placed. Like when a character shouts "what the H***" and all they're actually saying is "Where?"
Odd coming from ones that focus so much on keeping series "pure" (but yeah, they're still the better version).

Well, translators tend to do a lot of tweaking of the dialog in order to keep it sounding fluent and uniform because of the fact that Japanese tends to imply more based on context while English speakers simply say everything they mean. That's why the subtitle dialog tends to not accurately match what is being said much of the time. (Although in English, it actually is more accurate.) And each translator has their own way of tweaking it. And some translators feel they can convey the emotion of the scene better with 'what the h***', apparently.

The reason for s*** being common is often due to the fact it is the literal translation of 'kuso' is s*** or c***, however, while crude, it is not really a bad word in Japanese.
