Thats cause most Christian music does suck... :P Especially the stuff they play 100 times on kdove. There are like two good Christian rock bands that I actually like and they are Skillet (woot woot!! THUNDER IN THE CITY!) and Flyleaf. Oh and Desciple.. they're pretty good but I like the other two better. Oh yea and Blindside is cool too. But thats about it.

And I don't like any of the bands in the poll either so I didn't vote :P

The best band in the poll is the Chili Peppers...

But considering they released their first album in 1984, I don't know how they could be considered recent.

To name Flyleaf as one of the best Chrisitian rock bands is... just... horrible. There are so many better, more talented bands on the Christian rock scene. Not a whole lot of them are recent, but Showbread, The Showdown, ZAO, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster... and you alredy mentioned Blindside. There's plenty out there if you look for it.

You aren't serious are you. 'checks results' ...oooook then.

Well, I went Foo Fighters because, well, they rock so much. But to be honest, most of the bands on there are just the popular ones at the moment and are either being constantly hyped up by kerrang or mainstream media.

Here's what I think of the list:

Fall Out Boy - Alright, but when it comes down to it, they're just the same as most of the other pop/punk bands around now (Bowling for Soup, Blink 182, Simple Plan etc), I have to say though, the newest stuff does sound reasonably fresh.
System Of A Down - Toxicity is a classic album, but somewhere along the line they changed from substance to hype. I've no problem with publicity (all good bands deserve some) but theres a difference between good publicity and over publicity (probably why I dislike the mainstream so much).
Creed - Not heard much by them to be honest, so I'm not gonna comment. My Sacrifice is good though.
Seether - Again, I've not heard much stuff. I wouldn't mind buying a copy of something by them though.
Green Day - One word - wind. They are the kings of hype and they're stuff has been played to death a thousand times over, not helping them really. Another reason I hate the mainstream. Nobody has been more overhyped...except possibly queen.
Taking Back Sunday - Not heard much by them but them again it just sounded like more pop/punk to me. Each to his own though.
Foo Fighters - One of few bands that is overhyped and live up to it (and that it a flipping big achievement). Dave Grohl is a musical legend and works dead hard doing what he does best - rocking out! Great music - I hope we get another 12 years of it!
The Red Hot Chili Peppers - Another overhyped band that live up to it. There is a lot of style variation here which is one of the best things about the band. Definatally a close second.
The White Stripes - They've produced some great stuff and, seeing as how Jack White carries the whole band (him and his sister) pretty much by himself, definatally calls for some level of applause. Saddly, the curse of the overhype has hit them too. Still pretty decent though.
The Strokes - Not a fan personally, but I've heard they're pretty good.
Good Charlotte - The curse of pop/punk strikes once more. I don't understand how half of they bands think they're contributing anything new to music. I liked Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous though.
Alien Ant Farm - More flop band than rock band. Their cover of Smooth Criminal was excellent, but everything else has been 'blah' at best. Not only were they overhyped, but they sunk without a trace straight after. I never even heard anything off their second album...:S
Blink 182 - The last big overhype. But it has to be said they were the ORIGINAL big pop/punk band so they get credit for that. They have their moments so I guess they alright. Plus Atticus and Famous Stars are great labels :D
Panic! At The Disco - I really like some of their stuff. I heard them before they were plastered everywhere, but I knew they would be. The mainstream strikes again.
Slipknot - Another 'Kerrang' band like System. Again, been overhyped by Kerrang (just like My Chemical Romance), they have done some excellent stuff but it's just not THAT worthy of praise.

Ok, I'm done voicing my objectionable opinion. If you like the stuff fair enough. I just dislike overhype. Foo Fighters for winner!!!

Thats cause most Christian music does suck...

I used to absolutely love Breaking Benjamin. I still listen to Rain occassionally, and Firefly and Sooner or Later are good songs, but for me, they're kind of the rock you outgrow eventually. They ought to be on the list

Can you add or change the poll? I wasn't too much thinking when I created it. I need to add an "Other" option for the few who spoke on this.
As for "Breaking Benjamin", I have never before heard a song by them. Are they good? What genre of rock would you say they were?
I see most of the votes are towards "The Foo Fighters" they ARE pretty good. In the music video, the lead singer, Dave Grohl, had his mouth so close to the microphone.
As for the "success" of this thread, I didn't expect it to get this far... I expected the thread to just recieve like, two comments and then fall behind like all the other threads I write.

I agree. If you look hard enough, you will find quality Christian bands. There are obviously some that are just looking to copy other popular bands, but good Christian music does exist.

Also, forming a Christian band is usually more of a challenge because there's the spiritual dimension to deal with. There's issues of pride and accountability. Sadly, a portion of the "Christian music industry" contains bands that seem to care more about music than their faith, which sucks out passion and originality. Of course there are plenty of exceptions.

This also depends on genre. As far as musical quality, there are Christian bands that are up to par with much of the secular industry -- they just probably aren't the preferable genre of people who enjoy harder music.

BTW, if you like black metal (I think that's what it's called -- metal w/ heavy double bass along with orchestra stuff, anyhow), there's an underground Scandanavian band called Antestor. I was very impressed with their album, but I don't think any of their material is available online unless you want to buy their CD. If you like metal, check out Extol. They still have some of their hair band roots, but IMO, they're awesome. They make beautiful, passionate music that has lyrics with depth.

Fair enough, I didn't actually know that. I've got the first album (dusting on a shelf). I just wasn't that impressed with it.

'bows' Why thank you :)

My theory on mainstream music hasn't failed me yet. The best thing about it is it doesn't bash music based on genre. Which rocks because vertually every genre of music has something cool to offer the listener ;)

I think that the earlier songs of Alien Ant Farm are good, ie; smooth criminal remake,(which was considerably better than the original Micjael Jackson version) and Movies(Which gets points for the Edward Scissor Hands appearance).
The White Stripes, which nobody has mentioned yet, are also really good. Their songs Seven Nation Army, and Fell In Love With A Girl(Which has a really well done music video that must have taken forever) get a thumbs-up from me.
Another thing. Somebody has yet to answer my question about the poll.

If Creed was changed to Alter Bridge, I'd pick that. Since it isn't, I will say none of the above; I like Katatonia far more than all the bands in this poll. (especially considering many of those bands aren't even rock)

Antestor and Extol are both excellent bands; I have all their cds, but I have yet to get Extol's eps. And what do you mean by Extol's "hair band roots"? They've never been a hair metal band or anything even remotely similar to that style.

Anyways, if you'd like to know some more good Christian bands (particularly metal), you can find them in the thread that I will make shortly.

Well I admit I haven't looked very hard into Christian rock. For one, there is sooo much junk to weed through. Whenever I ask for Christian bands everyone always throws out the same crap: Switchfoot, TFK, Relent K etc etc etc. Flyleaf, Skillet, Desciple and Blindside I found on my own by accident.

For two, Im not a super huge fan of rock, I prefer metal. Those were just a few bands I happened to come across that I actually liked. And I don't care, I think Flyleaf is decent and compared to most of the other Christian stuff I've heard, I would concider them one of the better ones :D Skillet is still the best though :thumb: I don't think I'm ever going to find a band, Christian or secular, I like better than them

And, which of those bands aren't rock? As far as I know they all are. The only one that is barely rock is The Red Hot Chili Peppers, but they still are rock.

Also, why is everyone ignoring all of my posts?

Calm down dude, we're not ignoring your posts. I'm not sure that you can change a poll (if that's the question you were talking about), but I think the mods might be able to take it down for you....

Since we're not using the poll anymore, my favorite "recent" rock band would be Copeland.

Slipknot are not rapcore, alternative metal yes, nu-metal - a bit , but not rapcore.

And I wouldn't really describe Greenday as alternative rock. They've always been pop punk (think warning, minority and basket case), the new stuff isn't really THAT different, it's just had a darn site more publicity.

If Mad Capsule Markets were up there, they would have my vote.

Rap rock basically (e.g Kid Rock). The next closest genre would probably be nu-metal and, to me, some of the bands classed as nu-metal (such as Limp Bizkit) I would class as Rapcore. It's a hazy line though (even so I wouldn't define Slipknot as rapcore).

Again (and I could be wrong here) I wouldn't class Linkin Park as rapcore. It's more to do with the attitude. Whereas Limp Bizkit's lyrics contain some conventional rap themes (e.g rollin', ridin', sixpacks and bit...you get the idea) Linkin Park tend to steer clear of that and talk more about self and getting through the rough times. I know this doesn't apply to all rapcore bands (such as Pillar, who basically preach while rocking out...awesome stuff) but I just don't get the rapcore vibe from Linkin Park. It's partly to do with the fact that not all their songs are that rap based (E.g 'Don't Stay', 'Numb' and 'Crawling').

I guess it's just down to person opinion though, as I said before the line between nu-metal and rapcore is blurry at times. I personally wouldn't class Linkin Park as rapcore, more nu-metal.
