There are like two good Christian rock bands that I actually like and they are Skillet (woot woot!! THUNDER IN THE CITY!) and Flyleaf. Oh and Desciple.. they're pretty good but I like the other two better. Oh yea and Blindside is cool too. But thats about it.
And I don't like any of the bands in the poll either so I didn't vote
Anyways, I chose AAF from the list.
Thats cause most Christian music does suck...

Well, I went Foo Fighters because, well, they rock so much. But to be honest, most of the bands on there are just the popular ones at the moment and are either being constantly hyped up by kerrang or mainstream media.
Here's what I think of the list:
Fall Out Boy - Alright, but when it comes down to it, they're just the same as most of the other pop/punk bands around now (Bowling for Soup, Blink 182, Simple Plan etc), I have to say though, the newest stuff does sound reasonably fresh.
System Of A Down - Toxicity is a classic album, but somewhere along the line they changed from substance to hype. I've no problem with publicity (all good bands deserve some) but theres a difference between good publicity and over publicity (probably why I dislike the mainstream so much).
Creed - Not heard much by them to be honest, so I'm not gonna comment. My Sacrifice is good though.
Seether - Again, I've not heard much stuff. I wouldn't mind buying a copy of something by them though.
Green Day - One word - wind. They are the kings of hype and they're stuff has been played to death a thousand times over, not helping them really. Another reason I hate the mainstream. Nobody has been more overhyped...except possibly queen.
Taking Back Sunday - Not heard much by them but them again it just sounded like more pop/punk to me. Each to his own though.
Foo Fighters - One of few bands that is overhyped and live up to it (and that it a flipping big achievement). Dave Grohl is a musical legend and works dead hard doing what he does best - rocking out! Great music - I hope we get another 12 years of it!
The Red Hot Chili Peppers - Another overhyped band that live up to it. There is a lot of style variation here which is one of the best things about the band. Definatally a close second.
The White Stripes - They've produced some great stuff and, seeing as how Jack White carries the whole band (him and his sister) pretty much by himself, definatally calls for some level of applause. Saddly, the curse of the overhype has hit them too. Still pretty decent though.
The Strokes - Not a fan personally, but I've heard they're pretty good.
Good Charlotte - The curse of pop/punk strikes once more. I don't understand how half of they bands think they're contributing anything new to music. I liked Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous though.
Alien Ant Farm - More flop band than rock band. Their cover of Smooth Criminal was excellent, but everything else has been 'blah' at best. Not only were they overhyped, but they sunk without a trace straight after. I never even heard anything off their second album...:S
Blink 182 - The last big overhype. But it has to be said they were the ORIGINAL big pop/punk band so they get credit for that. They have their moments so I guess they alright. Plus Atticus and Famous Stars are great labels
Panic! At The Disco - I really like some of their stuff. I heard them before they were plastered everywhere, but I knew they would be. The mainstream strikes again.
Slipknot - Another 'Kerrang' band like System. Again, been overhyped by Kerrang (just like My Chemical Romance), they have done some excellent stuff but it's just not THAT worthy of praise.
Ok, I'm done voicing my objectionable opinion. If you like the stuff fair enough. I just dislike overhype. Foo Fighters for winner!!!
'points at signature' What about Emery? They are awesome!

.........well the mainstream christian music most does fail to impress but less mainstream music as in the harder music does not suck at all. A few bands that = not suck are Zao, August burns red(preps of metal), Showbread,Showdown,Becoming an Archtype, Mortal treason (RIP), Beloved(RIP, Subseven(RIP), Demon Hunter, Soul Imbrace(RIP) and thats just naming a few
Ark wrote:You know why AAF sunk? There lead singer broke his neck dude. They were out of the picture quite a while. And 2 of the songs off there latest album did get radio play. I am a fan of the band, so I guess my opinion is a bit jaded....but there is more to there falling off the Earth then record sales.
DrNic, you never fail to impress me ^_^ You always give such detailed posts. And I think your ideas on mainstream music are awesome. I agree wholeheartedly. And... just to say... I miss old System. I mean, pre-Toxicity System. Yeah.
Syreth wrote:I agree. If you look hard enough, you will find quality Christian bands. There are obviously some that are just looking to copy other popular bands, but good Christian music does exist.
Also, forming a Christian band is usually more of a challenge because there's the spiritual dimension to deal with. There's issues of pride and accountability. Sadly, a portion of the "Christian music industry" contains bands that seem to care more about music than their faith, which sucks out passion and originality. Of course there are plenty of exceptions.
This also depends on genre. As far as musical quality, there are Christian bands that are up to par with much of the secular industry -- they just probably aren't the preferable genre of people who enjoy harder music.
BTW, if you like black metal (I think that's what it's called -- metal w/ heavy double bass along with orchestra stuff, anyhow), there's an underground Scandanavian band called Antestor. I was very impressed with their album, but I don't think any of their material is available online unless you want to buy their CD. If you like metal, check out Extol. They still have some of their hair band roots, but IMO, they're awesome. They make beautiful, passionate music that has lyrics with depth.

Not a whole lot of them are recent, but Showbread, The Showdown, ZAO, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster... and you alredy mentioned Blindside. There's plenty out there if you look for it.
Tidus20 wrote:Okay, is anyone going to answer my question about the poll? It's only the third time I've asked so far, and thenice thing to do would be to answer it.
And, which of those bands aren't rock? As far as I know they all are. The only one that is barely rock is The Red Hot Chili Peppers, but they still are rock.
Also, why is everyone ignoring all of my posts?
