overplayed songs?

Postby Tenshi no Ai » Wed Apr 05, 2006 7:48 am

Doesn't necessarily mean that you hate the song (might even like it), but it's one of those songs that is ALWAYS on! Every time you turn on the radio or TV, it's ALWAYS playing and/or being requested! Yes I know if a song gets popular they play it quite a bit, but I know there's some that seem to just, simply be overplayed.

Probably not so much now, but 2 songs very worthly of getting the "overplayed" title would be Dance Dance and Sugar We're Going Down by Fall Out Boy :/ One time I remember listening to one station and Dance Dance was on and my friend changed the station and Sugar was playing at the same time on another one @_@. I was just REALLY glad they came out with a new single. (Although I REALLY don't think the vampire theme on the video suits the music, but that's a whole other story!)

Another would totally be Panic! At the Disco's I Write Sins Not Tragedies :/ I watch this show on Much (Canada's MTVish channel BTW ;)) and it's an all-request show and that songs is ALWAYS ON!!! Twice every time the show's on does it play :/ Interesting song, but when it's on that often... oy :/ Just made the countdown too (yay...) Worst part is, it's always stuck in my head now v_v

So, what do you think are songs that are just too overplayed?

Where I work, they repeat the same songs roughly every 5 hours all the time. Believe me, you get sick of it after about a week -- and I've been there for years. @_@;; (Most of the songs I don't even know. )

I used to really like Hotel California by the Eagles. But my classic rock station here played it like every day...and now even though I think it's still a really good song, I can't listen to it. I just can't stand to hear it anymore. XD;;

Greenday! Greenday, greenday, greenday, greenday, greenday. That's ALL thats on. Bored. Was bored 4 months ago of it, in fact I was bored of it about a year ago when it invaded my life and ruined the band for me. Enough said really.

That is one of the most brilliant things I've heard in a long time. You rock. The new Greenday album was horribly overplayed, and it ruined Greenday for me, too. Ah, how I will miss the days of 1039 and Dookie.

There's this song that plays all the time in the grocery stores. I'm not sure who dun it, but I think the title is "Because of You" (this is just a guess, seems to be a main theme in the song). It seems like it's playing every time I enter the store.

i still love greenday, tho i think that "wake me up when september ends" song is wayyy overplayed.

Fall Out Boy...definitely overplayed.

Also, this..rap...thing...with nothing but whistling in it. I swear it plays 20 times a day at work and I just want to shoot somebody everytime I hear it. The "top 40" radio station around here plays the same 10 or 15 songs on a rotation all day long. @___@

Kelly Clarkson... yeah a popular grocery store song :/ One time I went to one and they played like 4 of her hit songs back to back...

I stopped listening to Top 40 stations when I was like 13 so that has saved me a heck of alot of ear bleeding from repeats. But yeah like Kae said Hotel California used to get played on our Classic Rock station every day a couple years ago. But they've expanded their repetoire alot in the past year or two to the point where I might hear the same song twice in a week period. It also helps that another Classic Rock station took over another station 6 months ago so I can switch between the two.

I love Classic Rock it's 80% of what I listen to but it's just when I hear Hotel California, Sharp Dressed Man, Sultans of Swing, Sunshine of Your Love, Purple Haze, Back in Black, and Stairway to Heaven every day it gets old. I mean I already own most those albums with those songs anyway and they're on my Ipod.:P Well good thing it's not like that anymore on our stations or I would have to throw a brick through their windows...gently.

Cheers. Same here. I used to rock out to Minority and some others but now I just want to never hear the band ever again.
Oh, and I can't stand Queen, they may be CLASSED as classic, but to me they'll just be a bit irritating. Bohemean Rapsody has been worn to tears.

That's hardly their fault call your radio station. When you get to a critical mass of popularity like Queen it happens. I mean they only had about 50 plus Top 40 songs and 15 albums it's not like there's a shortage of material.

It's been so long since I listened to the radio.

But I have to say that Green Day's "Time of Your Life" did get really annoying after awhile back when it was out.

Then there is a whole battery of pop songs that are played CONSTANTLY where I work. I hate them. But I do not know the titles as I don't pay attention to pop music. lol.

What was worse was when they started playing the movie (or parts of it) Madagascar on a constant loop in the store. I could hear it from where I stood. Geez. It drove me absolutely spare.

Oh, you misunderstand me, I wasn't saying I dislike Queen wholey based on the one song. I dislike most of the stuff I've heard (about 15-20 tracks). 'Don't Stop Me Now' is my all time least favourite Queen track.

The one overplayed song that I can think of that I still liked after I heard it a million plus times is 'Can't Stop' by the Chili Peppers.

That bloody "You're Beatiful" song. Twenty times a day on the top 40, pumped in station out here. And since that is one of the five radio stations, it's either them, country, easy listening, our CCM station, or our classic rock station, which suffers from the same problem. They play a set of songs for a couple of weeks, then switch and play a different set of songs for a few weeks ad nauseum. Thank God for free Tooth and Nail sampler CDs.

Anything by Fall Out Boy is overplayed, in my opinion. XD And Yellowcard got really old, too. Now the band is totally sold out, not to mention they kicked one of their members. And yes to all who said Greenday...It's been so old for a while! X_x

Oh, and another band that was overplayed and overrated (at least where I live) is Story of the Year. My gosh. If I ever hear that "Until the Day I Die" song again...I might just explode. :eh:

There was that Evanescence song that seemed like it was everywhere for awhile. That really got annoying to me. Not that I was a fan in the first place even.

Oooh. I quite like Story of the Year and Evanescence :D
But to be fair:
1) Story of the Year isn't mainstream over here, so it isn't overplayed
2) It's been a while since evanescence was hyped to death (I listen to Linkin Park more now that they aren't 'it' than I did when everyone liked them)

It is true that Evanescence does not seem to be everywhere like they were before.

They're not really my style of metal, although they have certain similarities to the band Lacuna Coil which I do like. If you like Evanescence, you might want to try them.

Actually, the song's name is 'Suspend/Suspension'. But I have *never* heard any ZAO stuff on the radio, TV, or pretty much anywhere else. I heard them on one of those Solid State samplers. Where did ZAO get overplayed?

I shrug at that myself. Only actually heard about them not too long ago as one of those "really good bands that not many people know about".

Oh, and another to add to the overplayed list that I totally forgot about: Black Eyed Peas. Everytime a new single comes out they play it over... and over... and over... some I like but I've already seen the Pump It music video a million times already :/
