I now have a new found appreciation for orchestrated music.

At first I didn't really like orchestrated music but, after listening to Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts soundtracks I realized that that type of music really isn't that bad. Then here recently I was browsing through my library of music on my computer and I saw a Symphony by Beethoven that came with the music program for free. So, I clicked on it and when it started it was like heaven opened up and angels sang....except well, they used an orchestra. I now love orchestrated music and though I like the modern type better I still have a newfound respect for beethoven.

EDIT: I had a typo on the title and now I can't fix it.....that is really going to bug me.

I love orchestrated music as well. It gives a good soothing feeling. Sometimes can spark some emotion within you. I especially like the sounds of the flute, violin, and piano.

Glad you discovered a new type of music you like (just like I recently discovered that I like techno). I love many types of orchestral music and Bach in particular. His music is just pure genius, particularly his Brandenburg Concerti. I personally love the sound of deeper instruments like the cello and the viola, and I really like the harpsichord.

^_^ It's good to know we have other people here besides myself who still have a love for the traditional instruments of the symphony orchestra -- be it the low rumble of the timpani or the waterfall-like glissando of the harp. Beautiful stuff, and a pleasure to compose for too. :)

I rarely listen to Classicals except for Tchaikowsky, J.S. Bach, and famous pieces.

But whenever music combines orchestrated music with contemporary/modern musical instruments, I'm assure you I'm a very happy listener.

Some more good orchestrated soundtracks are Giant Robo, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Wallace and Gromit, and Lord of the Rings.

Alternately, you can watch V for Vendetta and watch stuff get blown up to the tune of the 1812 Overture.

Oooh. Techno or trance? If you like trance, I know a good place you can get DJ sets free and legal.

ANYway.

I agree with you that Bach's works are some of the most incredible. Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G is my favorite of his. I especially love the complex polyphony that he achieves in his pieces.

As well as Bach, I am also very much into Mozart, Haydn, and Handel. Strauss is great for romantic waltzes. I am torn between Mozart and Bach as to who my favorite of all is. Mozart, after all, had two breathtaking choral mass pieces that I listen to often.

While I am not as into his work yet, Chopin is great for piano. Prelude in No. 4 in E Minor is the one that really drew me to him.

Don't forget One-Winged Angel.

I, too, like orchestral when mixed with modern instruments. It's pretty cool.

To re-express what some have already said: Be it traditional instruments, modern instruments, or a combination of both -- as long as it doesn't sound like someone's killing them, I'll enjoy it.

You find that you have a weapon, an instrument that
will give you power over the wind and sea.
In one word, you can stop time. It is a weapon
so powerful that even God will bow
down to you and all his angels fall at your feet.
What would you do with it?
