Record yourself playing a song

Postby Warrior4Christ » Sat Feb 25, 2006 5:05 am

If you happen to play an instrument, record yourself playing a song you know and put it up here, and everyone else has to guess what it is! It could be done with a microphone, but if it has an electric output, it is preferable that you plug it in the line in of the sound card (you may require a 6.5mm to 3.5mm adapter plug thing). Use Audacity to record and edit it, and upload it to yousendit or other web space (as described in the intro of the accent thread. It might be easier to keep in time, etc, if you play the song on the computer (if you have it) while you record (with the microphone sufficiently away from the speakers if you use that). Note that this does require a sound device that supports duplexing (recording and playing simultaneously) which most modern ones should do.

Finally label the file something cryptically like "W4C song1.mp3" (and don't put the title in the MP3 ID tags either..) so that everyone can try to guess what it is.

We'll start with an easy one...

http://s30.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1MDN7Y05P9DDD17KNKDPHAHT3K

I've done several (and I'll gradually put them up), and then some others that I need to record again because they weren't very good.

I'm very surprised this hasn't been guessed yet!! It's very easy! I'm waiting for SCRIBS or maybe CREATURE ART to appear and tell us the answer *cough*hint*cough*.

Anyway, here's another one. It's a bit harder (a bit harder to play too). But I know some people should still guess this one (I'm looking in your direction, Locke...).
It's not the whole song, but it's in two parts: the intro and the solo.

Intro
You can hear me furiously tapping away with this one, trying to keep up with the speed of the CD, so don't listen too hard. It also starts sounding bad at about 19 seconds into it, so just pretend I played it right (I've never been able to keep the speed up in that part...).

Solo
I played this one at 80% of the original speed, because I keep making too many mistakes when I play it fast... I also play it in the middle octave only, rather than the higher octave, then the middle octave.

This one should be easily recognisable if you know it.

So familiar... The third one is being played on repeat right now. Man without the lyrics I'm so lost.

It should be familiar.
Hmm.... Maybe time for a hint? It starts with "So let me get this straight....". That's proably a huge hint!

Also, I'd be surprised if you couldn't get the second one...

You can ignore the 'email' field, and only choose the file you want to send, and it will work fine.

Okay, what you can do is email it to yourself(through You Send It). It will give you a link, whether or not you send it to yourself, you just have to make sure you copy it and past the link here. Did that make sense? Just try sending it to yourself and you will probably understand.

thanks guys, i got it!

alright, this song is poorly recorded, and i play it faster then it's suppose to be played because a friend of mine wrote a guitar part for this song, and we upped the tempo a bit for that, since the strumming pattern sounded best at this speed.

Lynx's was far too obvious, but I don't listen to switchfoot so I don't know their songs...

Ok I'm listening to the intro now... and it is *drumroll please* 'This Is Your Life' by Switchfoot! :) Good song choice, W4C! I love Switchfoot. :)

Thanks CA!

Hey Lynx, that was pretty good playing! It sounds familar, but I can't work out what it is...

Mine were:
1. 'This Is Your Life' - Switchfoot
2. 'Salvation Is Here' - Hillsong United
3. 'A Day Late' - Anberlin

I should record one sometime with my (non-CAAing) brother playing guitar...

Song 1 sounds like it's the background music to ad or something....
Song 2 wasn't familiar.
Song 3 says it's the "star spangled *yawn*". :D

Those weren't awful; they were well played!

Warrior, you're an awesome bassist! You and I should use Audacity and record a song :P

Song 1 was Black Bird by The Beatles

Song 2 was Tuesday's Gone by Lynyrd Skynyrd

song 3 was Star Spangled Banner. I want to say as done by Jimi Hendrix but that's a lie. His version smokes mine.

Thanks, Sonic, but I don't think awesome's the right word...

Yeah, that's a great idea! It would have to be a song that I have, or can listen to on the internet or something, so I can work out what to play.

I still think song 1 was background music from an ad!

RESURRECT'D!!

I've got a new one!

http://beta.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=C8B4F5FB41621D58

I know Osaka has made a wallpaper about this song before (hint!).

It has some mistakes in it, but my fingers got sore, so this recording will do for now. I guess it's not too bad for not knowing how to play the song 24 hours ago. :P

Innocence Again by SWITCHFOOT! YAY ME!

XD
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.
