Alright! I'm a big Star Ocean fan. Star Ocean EX the anime is turning out kinda cool too. I've been sort of watching this game out of the corner of my eye for a while. Now I'll have to go see if any of the gaming sights I haunt have updated trailers.

I'm a big Star Ocean fan.

This is one of the top three games I want in the first half of next year.
Hopefully this game will live up to Star Ocean 2. That was a good game.

i have heard about Star Ocean for some time and have wanted to give the series a try. you think it would hurt if i started with the third installment?
what other series would it be most closely related to?

It wouldn't hurt anything to start with third installment although I do recommend getting the second one Star Ocean: The Second Story sometime as that was very good. RPG's are rarely continuous stories from one game to the sequal(even those that do actually take place in the same world) so there would be no problem story-wise to start with the third one.

As for similiar series, well, the closest series I can think of at least in terms of the battle system and certain gameplay elements would probably be the "Tales of..." series. The two series were started by the same development team.

Yea,I know I want it too!!!!! The last I heard about it though was about 6 months agao and it was still in Japanese . . . I hope they get it soon! I'll have to talk to my bro, he gets the Nintendo Power magazine . . .
Yea, I did hear that there is no US version of EX yet or ever will be, stinks because its better than some of the things they have over here now . . . Oh well, I will try to find it on some internet sites or something one day *sigh*.
btw, Ashton is the best! (Gyaro and Ururun too of course!) ^_-

I have the .. uh *cough* Hong Kong dvds *cough*. Since it's not out in the US (and I doubt it will be for a while) I have no qualms with getting the region 0 set.

Volt, you'd cry if you went into the local eb. There's been a pile of Star Ocean 2 games for ... months now.

Here's the Star Ocean 3 official site.

starocean.net

It's only in Japanese, unfortunately, but you can look through the character profiles and such.

Oh yeah, and heres the English Star Ocean 2 site for those who are interesting in the previous game in the series.

To add a little more to this discussion, there is also a manga for Star Ocean that I have heard about. It uses the SO2 characters but there is different badguys and all. Looks cool tho! (^_^)

No, it won't, for the simple reason that even RPGs that are true sequals(take place in the same universe unlike the Final Fantasy series) rarely require you to know what happened in previous games and often have little to do with the previous games. There are a few exceptions to this of course(Xenosaga, for example).

First of all, I'm not quite sure which one you're talking about in the first sentence but, if it's Star Ocean 3 then no it's not out yet(In the U.S. anyway. It has been out in Japan awhile).

Secondly, the only Star Ocean: Blue Sphere game that I know about is a GBC(Game Boy Color) game that was a direct sequal to Star Ocean: The Second Story that took place several years after the events of that game and starred the same characters. It has never been officially translated and released in America and, due to various reasons, probably won't be.

Never played the Star Ocean series. I can see why people like it, though.
