That's just...wrong. BAD TRANSLATION!

Postby Destroyer2000 » Sun Dec 28, 2003 7:28 pm

I got the Rurouni Kenshin: Wandering Samurai Boxset, Eps 1 - 27 for Christmas. Well, if you turn subtitles on, when it plays "Freckles" at the beginning, it's translation is messed up, badly. The words and phrases are in the wrong order, and everything else. Also, the ending song, I dunno what it's called, but it's a new one to me...it's messed. I don't like it. Something about 'beautiful lady, and luscious lips'. I wish they'd just go ahead and play 'Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu'.

LOL! I saw it at Sarah's house and I was like, "What the heck? ._."
Anyway, at atleast the rest of the dub isn't that bad... atleast it seemed to me... but I'm not like a hard core Kenshin fan or anything. X3;;;

You probably don't, Ruroken. You'd be offended. :) Have you seen what Toonami cuts out of it, on the edit lists at animenewsnetwork?

Actually, the cussing adds to the atmosphere. (IMHO)

So you're saying RK is evil? There really isn't that much cursing. The blood isn't that bad, and guts don't spill out.

In the case of the RK edits, I think I'd rather watch the unedited version. For one thing, I read the manga long before I saw the anime (scanlations, of course) and I already had a certain idea of the series. Naturally, this included violence and cursing. So it's not likely to bother me. Considering the kinds of illogical cuts the editors make, I think you're probably better off with the unedited version as long as the content doesn't offend your convictions.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't buy the bento boxed set for my son now that I read all you guys' posts. It's always better to go with the original uncut rather than the edit.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Of, course, if you're looking for something realistic, there's lots of movies tat can give you that, plus...

You could always get up, walk outside, and talk to a couple random people. That's usaully realistic.

i dont think its all about maturity.... what about being pure and holy? the Bible says we are to strive for that...cussing and such do not bother me but I prefere edited because a lot of stuff i staken out... besides if i do miss a part i can read about it online. why cant anime s be as innocent as a star wars movie, or LOTR? neither one of those has any cussing, yet they are intrense, and are very well written.

I haven't really ever considered Star Wars tense or mature, and LotR is an epic, neither really kept me on the edge of my seat.

Hmmmm, the best example I can give is 'Bravo Two Zero' or (to a lesser extant) 'Saving Private Ryan', both are rife with bad langauge and sexual content, violence and (In 'BTZ') horrific torture, but once I'm done watching it, I find better moral lessons than 'Rurouni Kenshin'.

I've also never been sure why it's ok to watch someone get murdered in 'Trigun', but put down 'Ninja Scroll' because it has a rape scene in it. Both are wrong, but why's one worse than the other?

EDIT: Change 'killing' to 'murder'.

why's one worse then another? killing can be righteous...Moses, with those who worshipped the gold claf, the flood, Joshua at Jericho... rape cant be justified

I agree with Ruroken. And something I've noticed is that people always say that movies have to be dirty to be "realistic", but what about old movies? These can be watched by almost anyone in the family, and their plots are just as well constructed (if not better) than modern movies. The main difference is the budget. So...if they could do that then, why can't we do that now (and that includes anime)?

yay some one agrees with me! ive seen my share of old sit coms and movies... I Love Lucy is down right hilarious! and the same for the Munsters. but either aren't dirty! OMG!!!!(gosh) Ever seen Sergent York? one of the best war movies ever... no cussing at all.. sure Patton had a few cussing but nothing else...

Anime and mivies don't need cussing and fanservice to be good... Like Zoids, one piece, Hikaru No Go, The Iron Giant(US) Titan AE(US) there's another but i cant think of it....

Erm, both Titan AE and One Piece has minor profanity in it.

You know, while it's true that the old movies and shows rarely had profanity and all the other "stuff" you're talking about, the actors and actresses who starred in them were often not very good role models.

...although I Love Lucy was hilarious.

Are you saying I love Lucy is realistic? I've never heard that before.

Sorry, semantical inturpretation, I meant 'Murder', not 'forced killing'.

My point was it's easier to watch Legato murder people and just say that makes him a bad guy, but if Legato went around raping women christians wouldn't watch the show. (I'm not a fan of NS, just using it to make my point)

Patton was really good, so was To Hell and Back, however that was violent.

As far as good role models, I don't see very many, if any, in new movies, either.

I've been on other forums and I'd have to say these mods are the best at staying on topic. It's nice to see mods that have minds and sometimes voice an honest opinion, like Inkhana.

Now, I was just popping in to find out more about the Rurouni Kenshin boxed set, but I'll be stepping back out and let you guys finish talking.
