Valentine's Day Wallpaper Contest!

Postby Mangafanatic » Sat Feb 04, 2006 2:39 pm

The poll is up folks! Please, pop in and give us your opinion on who should win this year's Valentine's Day contest.

Thanks to everyone who submitted walls and made this contest such a sucess. Good luck to everyone!

The Poll will close at midnight eastern time on the 18th!

The poll can be found here!
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Well, I have one already made now. . . I hope it lives up to the competition. . .

I'm waiting a bit to actually submit it though. No hurry.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

I think, first, I'm going to see how much time these contest require. If they're low maintenance, I might be wrangled into organizing some art contests, too. ;)

You know, I'm not really sure. I think I found it simply by searching "Full Moon Wo Sagashite" and "avatar."

All entries should be PMed to me! I'm considering experimenting with having the contest judged by a poll, and I don't want the outcome of the contest being tainted by user popularity. For that reason, I request all entries be PMed to me, and I'll post them in the wallpaper contest forum.
The deadline is still midnight on February 14th. I can't want to see what you guys will turn in! Do your best, and have fun!

What size do you want us to send? (I'm assuming 1024x768 - I think that's the size we used in the past contests)

Ok .. two questions:

[1] Does the wallpaper have to feature original artwork (i.e. no cut and paste / edit of existing images of anime/manga/game stuff?)?

[2] What about American style comics related stuff? No? :)

That would be correct. ^___^

Ultra Magnus wrote:[1] Does the wallpaper have to feature original artwork (i.e. no cut and paste / edit of existing images of anime/manga/game stuff?)?

I'm not sure I completely understand the question, but I'll try my best to answer it First, I require that all walls submitted feature art work from games/anime/or manga. No original characters, please. :P If, when you say cut and paste, you're referring to cutting and pasting from other walls or something to that effect-- yes, don't steal work from someone else. But use images from preexisting series, please.

[2] What about American style comics related stuff? No? :)

Um, I'm going to say "no" on this one for now. If we have a great out cry for this kind of art to be accepted, I'll reconsider, but, for this contest atleast, I'm going to decline OEL material.

Are people who submit allowed to vote? Are you saying the voting starts at midnight on the 14th? If so, when will it end? It is ok that I cut/copy/pasted from normal images (not wallpapers) right?

Just wondering, Is there a reason that the thread for entry #5 is locked?

Lol, probably not, I'll go check it.

EDIT: OK, it should be fixed now.

No problem, I am really glad to see this thing up and running again. Small glitchs just happen sometimes.

We'll be running on the honor system here. I want to request that those who entered, should they choose to vote, not vote for themselves. That's the big requirement. :P

Are you saying the voting starts at midnight on the 14th?

Oh, I hope I'll be that good. Unfortunately, chances are that it will be the fifteenth before I get the poll up. :P

If so, when will it end?

I haven't really decided yet. A few days would be my guess. I'm still sort of working this thing out.

It is ok that I cut/copy/pasted from normal images (not wallpapers) right?

Yeah, that's not a problem.

I'm not sure, Osaka is out running some errands at the moment, but I'm going to FORCE her to set it up the moment she gets home. ;)

When she does, I'm sure she'll let everyone know where it is.
