assuming you're in Windows and have a keyboard with a "windows" key (which I'm going to represent as 'WK' below), the ones I use most frequently:

Alt + TAB = switch windows
Alt + F4 = close current window
WK + E = open Windows Explorer
WK + R = open "Run" dialog
WK + M = minimize all windows
Ctrl + S = usually saves whatever you're working on
Ctrl + N = usually does a "New" option (for instance in IE/firefox opens a new window)
Ctrl + TAB = cycle tabs in firefox (or most other applications with tabs)

There are probably others I know of, but those are the ones I use on an almost daily basis. I've also excluded the ones specific to the applications I use at work.

ctrl + d is bookmark page in most browsers

ctrl + q is sort of a hold over from earlier times, if you ever find yourself running an older program and can't figure out how to get out of it, can try this or alt + x

If you are using MS Word as your word processor

F7 = spellcheck
Shift+F7 = thesaurus
