Asian Horror

Postby Mr. SmartyPants » Wed Nov 09, 2005 9:29 pm

I don't know why I am so into the plot of horror.

Let me explain. I am a TOTAL WUSS! But the plots and supernatural occurances really really really intrigue me... and so since I am such a wuss I start reading spoilers and synopsis (cause i'll never watch the movie even if you tie me down and starve me)

so I start reading things like these:
http://www.freewebs.com/kayakofan/

I get SCARED by the synopsis! Quite sad, yes.

The big difference I see between most western horrors vs asian horrors. The asian ones tend to be more arabesque. And have different elements. (Pale faces, dark black hair, white outfit girl. Think sadako from the ring). Lots of random blue fog. (especially in the very low budget ones from like the 80s that my parents used to watch). They aren't really slashers, and not really "jump out of your seat suprises" but get your nerve racking and tenses you with really freakish atmospheres.... >_> I am such a wuss

some films I really really want to see (but actually I don't! Id rather know what happens at the end) include:
Acacia
Dark Water
Cure
Phone
and etc etc.

I feel like such a wuss...

anyone else like these types of horror?

If you're squeamish don't watch Audition.... You will be so grossed out it's not even funny.

What level of horror would it be?
Ever since I was little I was too scared to watch horrors, now I seem to be desesitized after watching... not too many. The most "gorriest" I've seen are the Hannibal trilogy, House of Wax, Ammityville Horror and Saw (that one wasn't really gorry though... just kinda creepy^^) I've seen things like the 2 Rings and were well The Ring was kinda creepy the first time you watch it though. Ringu didn't even have me budge :/ Slashers are just meh... hor fake :p
So on what level of gore would this be? After Ringu haven't been too interested in the Asian Horror genre (although people say mixed things about Ju-On. It's either really creepy or not even :/)
Judging by the pics (I'm the curious type that can get freaked out due to my curiousity >_<) the Uzumaki pics looked um... pretty creepy >_<

I just watched Ju-On today. I hardly ever get scared watching movies but Ju-On freaked me out. I haven't seen Ringu, however I did see The Ring. I might have been scared if I hadn't read a manga version first >.>

It's too hard to describe really it's almost not really a horror movie for most of it. It's not a gore filled blood parade it doesn't really show half of the sick stuff. But the final but will make your skin crawl with terror. Surgical torture to put it simply.

*shudders* Alright I get your drift now...
Sometimes I think it's best that some movies have the worst violence off screen^^ I thought Saw would be REALLY bad from what I've heard, but it was mostly off-screen... still creepy when you think about it though :/

Just went to Rogers video and noticed they just brought in Audition and Dark Water (along with a few others that I didn't notice on the site).

The cover of Audition kinda reminded me of a killer Megumi (just watched an ep of Kenshin about Megumi and her doctor practices). :/

 That was good! Wow... didn't think it was THAT scary when I watched it! But what a great prank at the end too! Good stuff...

I still don't see why everyone said when The Ring first came out that "the scariest part was when she came out of the TV" :/ I do not understand :/

LOL! I shouldnt laugh because some of them were truly terrified..even to the point of crying. I felt really bad for that one who wouldnt open her eyes the entire time and kept her fingers in her ears. I could just imagine her saying to herself "Warm safe place, warm safe place.." over and over again. The Ring's imagery really disturbed me and I even slept with my light on the night I saw it but I wasnt nearly as afraid while I was watching it as those girls were.

I do love the Asian Horror.

Ringu was fantastic, as was the American remake (The Ring). I was disappointed by The Ring 2, though. It had moments, but all in all was not that scary.

If you like Asian horror movies, I would *highly* recommend the Korean film "A Tale of Two Sisters". It is exceedingly creepy (and violent, so it's not for you young CAAers).

Hahaha! The only horror flik I ever want to see is Psycho. And that's more of a suspense/thriller, anyways. Alfred Hitchcock is just a good director, what can I say? XD Stuff from horror movies usually sticks in my head for a good while after I've seen it, so I usually stay away from them, haha.

Yeah, I thought it was hillarious until that girl started crying... I know what it's like to be that scared and have people laugh at me... I feel a bit slimy now...

And, I never saw any actual Japanese horror movies... I only saw two remakes (ring and grudge) and neither one scared me, but I sorta wanted to see "Pulse" until I saw the preview for the american one... Now it seems cheesy to me... Still, I loved the scene I saw of the person jumping off the tower (from the original, not the remake, though they repeat that scene) because they never cut away... You see them climb to the top, walk to the edge, and jump off... I just always thought that was cool...
