Useful Keystrokes

Postby Puguni » Sun Oct 30, 2005 3:37 pm

I thought it would be nice to make a collection, so people might know other ways to get to programs, etc. in case of certain situations.

Well, there's the obvious..

1. Ctrl + Alt + Delete - Helps exit out of programs in dire situations (Anything else, please add, because I'm sure there's more than that); when you push it twice, it restarts.

2. Alt + Tab - Switches between programs without a mouse.

3. Alt + F4 - Exits out of a program.

my brother was in a chatroom with his friends once and he said: "Hey guys, if you press alt + F4 something COOL happens"

...they dropped like flies. It was hilarious. XD;

lol That's funny!
f1 gets you help for the basic functions of your computer.
And control c will copy an item.
And control v will paste it.

I imagine everyone knows this, but just in case. ^ ~

LOL... bet he got flamed when they got back on.

I've noticed several faster ways to do things in the enhanced mode for CAA.
alt+i italics
alt+b bold
alt+u underline
alt+p preview
alt+s save

On Linux, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace cancels the X session. If the GUI came up when you started the computer, it effectively logs you out.

That's helped me a few times when X went crazy.

Also a handy cheatcode in online games.

(Win = Windows key)
Win + M = Minimise all
Win + E = Windows Explorer
Win + H = Finishes your homework for you*
Alt + Enter = Properties
Backspace = Back/Up one level
F2 = Rename
F5 = Refresh

*YMMV
Everywhere like such as, and MOES.

Shift + Tab -> Tab in opposite direction
Alt + Shift + Tab -> Switching open programs the opposite way

;)

ctrl + f -> open search window (open search in firefox)

PrtScn -> takes screenshot

right before windows starts(the logo comes) -> F8 -> for multiple startup options

Shift+del -> removes the file without putting it first into recycle bin

hold ctrl while clicking files, you select all the files you click
hold shift, you select all the files from the first selected file to the one you click
hold shift while inserting CD-rom, it won't autostart

Windows:
Alt+PrtScn -> takes a screenshot of only the current window

And some windows key combinations:
Windows key + R -> run program dialog
Windows key + E -> launches Windows Explorer
Windows key + F -> launches find files window
Windows key + L -> lock computer
Windows key + D -> show desktop (press again to undo)
Windows key + M -> minimize all programs
Windows key + U -> accessibility programs
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.
