I'm considering purchasing a PSP, and need some advice

OK, after doing some very heavy research on the PSP and DS, I've decided to go ahead with a PSP. I know many of you are wondering why I would go with a system that only has about 4 good games, well I'll tell you. Those 4 good games appeal to me the most, and they are Ridge Racer, Wipeout Pure, Lumines, and Archer Maclean's Mercury.

Now that we got that out of the way. I would like to ask you guys something about it. There is a shop in the mall of louisiana called Gameware that sells imported consoles/handhelds and games(you guys are probably drooling right now). They have a White Japanese PSP, that I'm going to be getting it in 4 or 5 months(I'm going to wait tell after christmas to purchase one, its alot easier). I just want to know will a Japanese PSP's drivers work on an american PC such as a my vaio. It should, right? I mean, PCs are pretty much universal?

Don't. PSP has some serious design flaws, such as shorty batery life, horrid loading times, and expensive data mediums. The DS will soon be online, and has plenty of great games already. (Super Mario 64 DS, Kirby Canvas Curse, Nintendogs, Advance Wars Dual Strike, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Phoenix Right: Ace Attourney, and soon, Mario Kart DS and Animal Crossing: Wild World.)

While I do agree with Fireproof on who has the better games (currently), those design problem are not really too much of a problem. I've owned a PSP since the beginning of summer and I haven't had a single problem with the hardware, itself. So far it seems to be a well-built system. *knocks on wood*


Anyways, as for your question, I would assume so, yes. However, I haven't tried it myself..... but, I think I remember seeing Gamespot's On the Spot crew demonstrating the PC-->PSP set-up process with a Japanese unit.


Btw, when you get the PSP, I recommend renting Mercury first.

If you like rpgs a fairly good rpg is coming out nov 14 (i cant remeber its name) and dont listen to fanboys who spout of stuff at the mention of its name. I have had my psp since launch and have had NO problems.

Also if you like shooters infected and bounty hounds is coming out sometime soon.

If you have 2000 or above your pretty good. you just plug the mini usb in and youll get a message asking you where you want to go... its basically a flash drive and is read as such.

And as far as I know JP psps will work here, I know games are region free as well.

forgot to mention burnout is extremely good (have played it) and I heard death jr is a good platformer but havent played it or read much about it

I'll be getting a DS next time so it no big deal . The game are very good, such as Castlevania, Phoenix Wright, and Nintendogs. But like I was saying, the PSP has games that just appeal to me a bit more. Besides, I'll be getting a JP PSP, so I'll have alot more games to choose from.

Landstalker PSP is coming out rather soon... If it's anything like the Genesis masterpiece it will almost merit the purchase of a PSP alone.

Exaggerating, of course, but the original Landstalker rocked bigtime and the thought of such a gorgeous remake makes me nigh unto dizzy.

Metal gear acid and twisted metal are on there too. I haven't played them, but I heard they were good.

Also, keep in mind that the new Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (an FPS) game is coming (or is out... the computers at work are so unreliable), as well as Guilty Gear Judgment. I'm looking forward to playing both. AND!!! PSPs are now internet browser capable.

Oh somebodys pet if you upgrade to version 2.0 you can use a web browser and from your images make a background (zoom in out or pic a portion to be the background for your psp)

Japanese PSP's have many regional settings, that's all I know...

While the Japanese DS does not

my advice: Just get a black PSP, sure you won't have the bragging rights, but hey... you won't take any risks.... Imported stuff is expensive! Jump Superstars is like 60 bucks! And so is Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4...
