But it's sooooooooooo frustrating! XO
Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

Okay, I can’t answer all of these, but I’ll take a stab at a few. ^__^

1) Where’d the Phantom get his mask?

Remember, Madam Giry was in on this whole thing from the beginning. Considering that she saved him, I have no doubt that she helped him in acquiring much of what he ended up with, clothing, masks, etc.
2) Where’s the Phantom’s toilet?

He does have those extra rooms and passages down there—one of them probably makes a good bathroom, and is well supplied with issues of Angel of Music Digest or something.
3) How does the Phantom feed his horse?

The very presence of the horse is ridiculous.
4) Where does the horse’s manure go?

See above answer.
5) Where’d the Phantom get his boat?

See question 1, though the boat seems a bit excessive, doesn’t it? XD
6) How does the Phantom eat?

Again, question 1. He also probably takes from the kitches.
7) How does the Phantom keep so many hundreds of candles lit?

I doubt he does that regularly, or he’d be ordering candles in bulk, which would be suspicious. I think he lights them for Christine.
8) How do the candle-holding people move at just the right time?

Do they even exist? They show up when Christine is in her dream-like state, making everything more brightly lit and mirror glass melt away. Notice, they’re not there during the scenes after Don Juan.
9) Where’d the Phantom get his horse?

I hold to my statement in 3.
10) What kind of bird is the bed modeled after? It looks like a turkey.

11) Where’d the Phantom learn to sing?

I’d say part natural talent, part excessive eavesdropping on the goings-on of the opera house.
12) Why does Christine’s hair flip out when she goes into the Phantom’s lair?

Wouldn’t yours?
13) Why does Raoul have backwards sideburns?

French fashion. *shakes head* It cannot be understood.
14) How’d the Phantom get in Christine’s dad’s tomb?

As I’ve said, he has quite extensive passageways, and the graveyard is not all that far away, so I assumed he had a connection to there.
15) How’d the Phantom make the tomb’s doors open and the lights turn on if he was on the roof?

…..magic…… <.< >.>
16) Where’d the Phantom learn how to use a sword so well?

It goes with being good-looking and in a move.
17) WHERE DID THE PHANTOM'S HAIR GO AT THE END OF THE MOVIE???!!!!

If you look carefully at some of the previous scenes of him in his lair, he has extra masks and several dark, well-kept wigs among his various miscellanea. I think he was always wearing one, and it came off in the chaos of the interrupted opera. I mean, just because trapdoors, dank sewers, and crashing chandeliers wouldn’t do anything to an anime character’s hair/wig doesn’t mean Erik is exempt.
18) Why do the Phantom's scars get redder as the movie progresses?

Lighting?

1) Where’d the Phantom get his mask? It looks like it’s made perfectly for him. And what holds it up? There is no string!!!!/ in the musical, I *know* they make it specifically for the actor...as for the Phantom himself, he's a genius, he can make anything.
Adhesive of some sort? :eh:

2) Where’s the Phantom’s toilet?/ In the film in particular, that does require some thought....the water?

3) How does the Phantom feed his horse?/ steals stuff. He always does.

4) Where does the horse’s manure go?/ see #2.

5) Where’d the Phantom get his boat?/ stole it, or built it out of stolen materials.

6) How does the Phantom eat?/ with his mouth.

7) How does the Phantom keep so many hundreds of candles lit?/ by running around in case they die out.

8) How do the candle-holding people move at just the right time?/ Practice.

9) Where’d the Phantom get his horse? In the book, it's a stage horse that went "missing".

10) What kind of bird is the bed modeled after? It looks like a turkey. /I thought it was a swan...personally it looks like something out of an Anne Rice novel, in a very cheesy way.

11) Where’d the Phantom learn to sing?/ He was born that way. Read the novel "Phantom" for more info.

12) Why does Christine’s hair flip out when she goes into the Phantom’s lair? / static electricity.

13) Why does Raoul have backwards sideburns?/ Lambchops, hun. They were big several decades before the movie begins.

14) How’d the Phantom get in Christine’s dad’s tomb? / Through the front door.

15) How’d the Phantom make the tomb’s doors open and the lights turn on if he was on the roof?/ Remote control. He's a genius.

16) Where’d the Phantom learn how to use a sword so well? /You got me.

17) WHERE DID THE PHANTOM'S HAIR GO AT THE END OF THE MOVIE???!!!!/ He was wearing a wig.

18) Why do the Phantom's scars get redder as the movie progresses?/ somebody offstage musta slapped him one.

Personally, my quibbles are--

Why are they fighting with swords in the first place? Nobody used swords anymore, they used guns! And besides, duels were illegal.

How on earth could Raoul sing when he was freezing, tied up and being strangled at the same time?

How did the editors miss the string of spit?

Rememer, this is a MUSICAL; the songs are symbolic. what you think that people just bust out into tune randomly on the streets, while 30 strangers perfectly synchronize with your dance moves in real life? Symbolism, my friend, symbolism.

Anyway, to answer most of the original questions, pleast note:

He was regularly paid by the owners of the theater (remember he got mad when he wasn't paid), so that covers expenses if he wanted to buy materials/food. Yes, he could go out into the public, he just covered himself up.

He secretly ran the theatre like his playground and was raised there practially...you don't think there are some bathrooms on the lower levels? Or he could just use the sewer if anything. He probably stole things whenever he wanted to; he hated society.

He designed his mask for his face, he didn't go to the local halloween party store. He has all the materials at his disposal.

"How did he learn how to sing??" That's gotta be the most ridiculous question for Phantom of the Opera.
Umm...he was raised in a THEATER. If a guy was raised in, say, a Bakery, you think he might know something about baking bread? 'Nuff said.

I know; it's just a quibble I have with the film in general. It worked better on stage than it did on screen.

I can see why it would come off when he dropped from the balcony, but when Christine pulled it off on the balcony, the hair came with it. And we get to see him putting on the black mask earlier and the wig/hair wasn’t attached to it.

hmmm. I didn't think it was that bad. It doesn't have as much swearing as their Harry Potter movie summary at least. I almost died laughing reading through it again last night.

"[The Angel then takes her through the opera house basement on a horse, then by a ferry, then a stagecoach, then a steamboat, then a biplane with a layover in the fourth cellar, and finally to a gondola. They are serenaded by electric guitars and waterproof candles.]" ^^
