Kenshin Boxed Set

Postby cbwing0 » Sat Nov 29, 2003 10:36 am

I won a boxed set of the Rouroni Kenshin series on Ebay last week, and it arrived. I am happy to say that it was just as described, and high quality.

What does this have to do with the rest of you? Well, I will give you a question on which you can post answers. Have you ever bought anime on Ebay? Was your experience positive or negative? Any tips to avoid getting burned?

This is the first time that I bought any anime on Ebay, mostly because it was not available anywhere else. My advice would be to avoid anything that is coming from Asia, even if it is a little cheaper than American sources.

It has the english dialogue. I watched the part where Kenshin reverted to the battosai, and he didn't drop the f-bomb. I guess I got lucky getting a quality product. :thumb:

He only drops the F-bomb in the bootlegs or fansubs. On another subject altogether, the F word doesn't even exist in the Japanese language.

Nope, haven't gotten anything from Ebay. I've heard too many stories from people about bootlegs and such.

I did get the Rurouni Kenshin box set though, and it's great! My only complaint is the cardboard sleves that the DVD's come in, but 6 thinpack cases fit nicely inside the box.

Just curious: how many of you who are suspicious of using ebay have ever had a bad experience with it? I would be interested in hearing horror stories.

You definitely shouldn't buy anything from Hong Kong, Singapore, or any other Asian country. It also helps to look at the picture. For example, all of the bootleg Kenshin sales are using the same picture that they copied from a legitimate seller (for reference, it is just a picture of the two cases next to each other, which don't look very much like the real cases ;) ).

Region-free dvd's should be fine (mine are, at least), as long as it has English dialogue.

Checking feedback would also be a good idea. Look at the positives and negatives, since someone might say something like, "I'm happy to have it, but it's a bootleg/low quality."

And if you do get burned, then you can get compensation from Ebay, so it's not like you'll lose your money.

I have gotten some anime pins and figures off of eBay. . . the guy I got the figuines from was good, but the lady that sold the pins, well, she kinda jipped me on the shipping and charged me twice! I don't even look at eBay anymore . . . not just because of her, but because it was just a bad experience that I'd rather not repeat with another seller. I will buy again from the guy if I found something I wanted that he sold, but otherwise I would stick to the sellers that have a good reputation and good feedback. Always check the feedback.
