What Are Smoe Really Good GBA Games?

Postby brantelg » Thu Nov 20, 2003 7:13 pm

I just bought a GBA SP from my friend. It came with Castlevania: Circle Of the Moon, and since then I've bought an E-Reader and a bunch of E-Reader Cards. What are some other really good games that I should consider buying? Any help would be great! :thumb:

Mario & Luigi: Supestar Saga

Postby MasterDias » Thu Nov 20, 2003 7:49 pm

Good GBA games...
Well, let's see. I can give you some titles to look into:

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Really good Strategy RPG, nice story, pretty fun

Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age
If you like traditional RPG's, these two are the way to go

Metroid Fusion
Metroid games are fun and somewhat challenging

Pokemon
Fun little RPG's...

Fire Emblem
Don't have it yet, plan to get it soon.
Got good reviews

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Don't have this either. It just came out.
Mario games are fun...

Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising
Haven't played either of these but they got good reviews
Good if you like Strategy games.

Castlevania:Harmony of Dissonance and Castlevania:Aria of Sorrows
Don't have these either. If you liked Circle of the Moon you should like these.

You should find something on that list that interests you...

I have a lot of the megaman games, the metroid game, final fantasy tactics, both of the Advance Wars games and i plan to get the newest Castlevania game and Sword of Mana (Dec. 2) and just a game that has a ton of fun simple games is the Wario... something.. but it seems like it might be fun.
The Advance Wars games are great strategy games. No level ups and stuff like FFT, but i have spent the most time playing those games. I am sure you can find a used copy at a local video game store.

Advance Wars-I have the first one, but I haven't played the second one (I assume it is just a good though :) ). The reviews are indeed accurate: it is a great strategy game. It's quite similar to the old strategy game Nectaris: Military Madness. It has the same combat system, graphics, etc. However, it has more interesting features, such as general powers and unit bonuses.

F-Zero: Maximum Velocity-A respectable port of the F-Zero series to the GBA.

I don't have very many GBA games...

Sword of Mana here also. Although it'd make my day to see a localized version of SD3 come to the GBA.

I'd personally recommend Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. While many seasoned FFT players will tell you they are dissapointed in the game as an addition to the FFT saga, it's really a great little game. I've personally put 60+ hours into it and am hardly even 1/4 into the story probably.

I own a Gameboy Advance into which I installed an Afterburner lighting kit. In case none of you are familiar with it, here is a link:

http://www.jandaman.com/thestore/prods/gbaabkit.html

Don't bother looking at the pictures, the pictures never seem to do the afterburner any justice. I've never seen an actual GBSP screen so i don't know how to compare it to a GBSP but it's really quite a nice light if you install it correctly. I would prefer it over a GBSP any day because of the GBA's more desirable GameGear-style side by side layout, rather than the classic gameboy layout.

Sword of Mana is i believe the first installment in a 3-part series of games called "Seikken Densetsu" or "Legend of Mana." It was originally for the NES. The second and third were on the SNES, but the third was never translated into English. (except by fans... you can obtain a translated ROM of it)

Basically there are 8 or so crystals (think Final Fantasy), each with a particular element and avatar associated with it. The avatars join you throughout your quest and grant you their magical powers by giving your characters spells of that particular element.

The battle system is quite interesting. Think of the Legend of Zelda, and combine that with the ATB system in Final Fantasy, and that's kind of what it's like. You can also access circular "ring menus" to cast spells or use items.

Your entire party consists of 3 characters, and you can choose which you want to control. The other 2 characters will play automatically. You can also play with two players, and have just one AI-controlled character. That is really a blast.

I don't remember much else about the game since it's been so long since I've played it. In fact, I haven't even played the original one, I've only played the second two. So the first one in fact could be quite different from the second and third. I guess we'll have to wait and see. ^-^

From what I've read about Sword of Mana, that sounds about right except that in the first one there are only two characters in your party, not three.

FIRE EMBLEM! FIRE EMBLEM! FIRE EMBLEM!
Oh, and pretty much everything that has been said before, except I would add Lunar Legend. It's a remake of an old game called Lunar: Silver Star Story (I don't know what system). It's a little-known game, but really good.
