Metal Gear Solid 3...

Postby Shia Kyosuka » Wed Jul 20, 2005 10:19 pm

I just finished this game. I must say, this game was truly a masterpiece.

The ending was legendary (as always)!

I wish there were more interactive movies out there... I loved and enjoyed this game so much, in honor of MGS3, I will buy it (and MGS: TTS) when I get a job.

The only thing I would change about is the fact that it's on PS2. At some parts of the game, it went VERY slow due to excessive dust or fire or whatever else on the screen. It should've been on XBox and GCube. Oh well... It was still one of the best gaming experiences ever created.

^_^

*starts dancing around the room*

OH YEAH!
had enough.

I never get it when people call the Metal Gear games "interactive movies." Aren't they third person stealth titles?

I... really can't explain the term "interactive movie" that well... I just know which games are and aren't.

I will at least try to explain it.

Notice the storyboard. It's always VERY well thought out by Hideo Kojima. He always makes sure the storyboard is absolutely flawless before the game is finished.
In the cutscenes, They let you be apart of them.

Like in the end of MGS3,
When you beat The Boss, she tells you more about herself and asks you to kill her. It then switches back into the game and you have to push square (pull the trigger) whenever you're ready.

Later, when you're escaping the place with EVA, you're once again confronted for one last showdown by Ocelot. He puts one bullet in one of the revolvers and starts skillfully juggling the revolvers in an attempt to fool Snake into picking the wrong revolver. He's done juggling the revolvers and gently puts them down. It switches back and let's you pick the gun of your choosing. Snake picks up the revolver and points it in Ocelots face and Ocelot does the same (to Snake of course). It switches and let's you pull the trigger six times to find the hidden bullet. If it's wrong, you're dead, if it's the right revolver, a bullet will shoot and it will switch back.
Those are just some examples of in-game cutscene action.

Also, They fit in real footage of wars, nuclear waste, and other things to blend in with it, making it more of a movie.

And, it let's you see what's going on in the cutscene from the first person if you press R1.

There's more to it, but I just can't remember.
had enough.

They're rated M. There's a very high chance I wouldn't be allowed to get them. :shady:

Metal Gear owns me. And I have no problem admitting it. I own almost everything that has to do with it...got the 2 nes games. (not the Japanese one though) Got all the ones from the PS1, PS2. I don't do handheld...so gameboy and PSP is out. But I am waiting for MG4. What does this have to do with MG3? Absolutly nothing. I just felt like sharing. But on topic, the end of MG3 is the only video game ending EVER to make me shed a tear. I had like 1 or 2 little wet spots. (I know, I am a pansy)

But you obviously play Halo...

I'm a Metal Gear nut too. Yeah and the ending to 3 was probably *the* most emotional ending to a videogame ever in my opinion.

I haven't played anything past MGS1. I'm going to begin collecting the rest of the series pretty soon though. I will say that MGS1 was truly a masterpiece. It was the first game that nearly made me cry... *Sniper Wolf's death* I've never had a game plot play with several of my emotions like Metal Gear Solid's did.

When I had finished it for the first time.... I had no idea if I had just played the best movie I had ever seen or just watched the best game I had ever played. :P

Metal Gear may be rated M, but probably the lower end of the bad-content scale.
It's mostly just the violence, which is more realistic anyway(usually).

When I played the first MGS, it was The Twin Snakes because of the fact that it was a gamecube game and I had been interested in it for a very long time. After I played MGS 1, It was automatically my favorite gaming franchise. That MGS was also a great masterpiece. I just convinced my friend to get MGS2 at EB games because it was $10 (their prices are CRAZY!). So, I'm going to borrow it from him when I get the chance.

lol! I really don't want to get a PS3, but... that's the only console with MGS4. I've been hoping for them to announce it for Nintendo Revolution, but it may not happen because in the trailer (which, by the way, is my favorite game trailer) it said "New console for Hideo and Seeds" or something like that. *sigh* I could wait until they make a new exclusive version or go ahead and get the PS3. I really don't even like the way PS3 is going (WAY overboard with extra features), but if it has MGS4... I gonna have to get it!
had enough.

Since they typically release an enhanced version about a year or so after release, I wonder if I should wait on MGS4?

When I play Halo, it's always at a friend's house, or my friend brought an XBox over. My mom has a thing against most violent video games, but it is understandable. She's cool with RPGs, platformers, some fighting games and such, but I can't really own much beyond that.

OK... Halo is a church youth group thing... MGS3 has a lot more adult content in it than Halo... The term "leaps and bounds" comes to mind (though still not as disturbing as the MGS2)
Homosexuality, sado-masachism, Statuatory Rape, and Rape have all been topics on the Metal Gear games... Then there's the fact that it is far more violent than Halo, but not as violent as MGS2... A certain death scene at the end of MGS2 still echoes in my head (think plasma gun)
The Metal Gear series, moreso in the solid series than the first two games on MSX, have always been like movies... They are very plot heavy, and cut-scene heavy. People gripe about this a lot because they come into it expecting more of an action title, or having played splinter cell, expect purely a stealth title... The action and stealth take a back seat to the cut scenes... Therefore, it is not a game, it is an interactive movie. If you go into it expecting that, you will do fine... Of course, most of the cutscenes can be skipped... Most...

As for the ending of 3,
I found the beginning of BB's transformation much more realistic than Anakin's in Star Wars... You could see the wheels turning in his head as he saluted the Boss' grave... He was hurt... Destroyed even, and very angry. That was some of the most complex and believeable facial animation I've ever seen... Even moreso than Final Fantasy: Spirits Within though the character models were better on FF.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs Watch this movie なう。 It's legal, free... And it's more than its premise. It's not saying Fast Food is good food. Just watch it.

Metal Gear 2? Or Metal Gear Solid 2? MGS2 had a cool story, but it wasn't very coherent.

The end of MGS3 made me choke up a little.

Play it a few times...My thoughts on the whole story was a pretty much about a person playing the game

"War as a video game what perfect way to raise the ultimate soldier!"

The entire event (IMO)was about training Raiden into another Snake (Only to work for The Patriots).

Also Raiden ,to me, Was pretty much standing in for the player.

The theres the codec messages from the cornel "Raiden! Turn off the game console ,now!"

And I the very end where Raiden throws away the dog tags. (that your ment to put your name on)

In the End is was all a confusing story about Kojima-san makingf a game!

...IMO...

MGS2 was a great game with a great plot. But there were just certain things that no one really wanted. Obviously Raiden, Fat psychos on roller skates, the Founding Fathers controlling the future through the past, and so on. Yes I know that wasn't really the case just saying it was ridiculous enough to where the plot at the end was almost impossible to decipher thoroughly. But still an awesome game in terms of gameplay, interactivity, graphics, and hey ya can't fault Kojima for being ambitious. Well ya can when he just goes off the boat like that, but still.:P

I know that Kojima's staff is going to try to rectify that and make some sense this time with MGS4. They learned from that mistake. And we got a straight up Metal Gear game out of it with 3. So I have full confidence MGS4 will be all we hoped for.

Considering how much I love the franchise, and since I have already said I owned most of them...clearly you needed to educate me over a simple typo. Considering MG2 never came out in America, not many would even talk about it. *Anyway* I just was not impressed with the ninjas and junk at the end of MG2...it kinda leaned the series away from what little realism it had. Don't get me wrong, I still loved the game...but MGS3 showed us what a perfect MG game can be.

There's no need to get so defensive Shatterheart. I'm not out to ge you or anything. You could probably get Metal Gear 2 on emulator or something like that. Besides, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (Kind of a director's cut of MGS3 for those who don't know) is going to have the two original Metal Gear games on it. Sweet.

MGS2's plot was actually pretty cool, but it took a couple of hours of heavy pondering (and about 4 play-throughs) to figure it all out. PM me if you want to hear my interpretation of it. I can't guarentee it'll make prefect sense to you afterwards, but it might help.

Can't. Wait. For. MGS. 4.
Is that Olga's baby, or Raiden's? Is that really Big Boss? Why is Dr. Hunter wearing a raincoat? These things drive us insane.
This isn't really what I'd consider spoiler material. It is Olga's baby. And no I doubt it's Big Boss he's in pieces literally at this point. Because it must be raining alot wherever she is.:P She's keeping a low profile since she's on the run.

If is even is Hunter. That guys art style makes all the women look the same. But I'm betting it's her.

If you'll remember at the end of MGS2, Rose was pregnant, and we don't excactly know how old Olga's baby was, at the start of MGS4, he/she could be a toddler. I kind of think it's Raiden's, but it's too early to say.

That's gotta be Big Boss's corpse.

I can't see why it wouldn't be Olga's baby. That was a big part of the ending there and they mentioned it several times at the very end. Raiden's baby was a very minor point made. Yeah it is Naomi Hunter and Big Boss. I'm a little worried about the whole Big Boss thing though. I mean he was burned to death and Snake watched him die. Oh well I guess we have to see the old man in a 3D Metal Gear on principal.
