Narnia fans, after the long wait Andrew Adamson has offically announced that Liam Neeson is the voice of Aslan and all his parts have been recorded!

Douglas Gresham was my first choice but I think Neeson will do a magnificent job! Good to hear.

Well, given the significance of the role, so long as the part is done respectfully is the main thing <envisions a street smart, hip hop kind of Aslan and shudders>

Aslan is the Christ-figure from CS Lewis' Narnian Chronicles of which there is a multi-million dollar movie being made set to be released in December. Many consider Lewis the best Christian of the century and many Christians and non-Christians consider his Narnian Chronicles to be the best books of fantasy ever written.

And so its a big who-ha-ra. ;)

Yes bbboy, we know. Tolkien and Lewis were the best of mates as adults. They influenced each other, but Tolkien didn't like the Narnia Chronicles much because he believed you shouldn't mess up a good story with allegory.

Well, the first movie is going to be "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" and its about four children who leave their homes in London during World War Two because of the bombings for a house in the countryside. At the house they discover a magic wooden wardrobe and when they climb through it they enter the land of Narnia - a beautiful country where it is strangely always snowing. They learn that for the past 100 years the White Witch has ruled over Narnia with an iron hand (and a magic wand) and that only they can break her rule. Also they hear that the mysterious figure of Aslan "is on the move".

Allegory means something that has symbols for something else. For instance the book "Animal Farm" is an allegory for the rise of Stalinism in the Soviet Union. A pig named Napoleon represents Stalin, Farmer Jones represents Czar Nicholas, and so forth. I'd rather not discuss the allegory of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It would be better if you pick it up yourself and read it. Its' a short book and easy to read.

There was a BBC (British) miniseries of it in the late 1980s and also a cartoon adaption in the late 1970s (American). Both were very low budget and not very good. But this one should be awesome!
You've probably seen them before.

Aww... I really dislike neeson. :stressed: In the movies that I've seen with him in them, he's always too serious. :shady: Aslan's serious yes, but he often has a touch of good natured humor mixed in with his personality as well.

Awesome! This is killer news! I love Liam Neeson dearly, so this oughta be great. And Kate Blanchette as the white witch? Oh heck yes!

I'm going to have to bring my narnia boxset with me to college to read up on the series before I see it. It's been ages.

I read some of them as a kid... hard for me to folow then. I read them as an adult and loved the Christian imagery. I really hope they don't water it down into a generic fantasy story...

Sorry, but Tilda Swinton is playing Jadis (the White Witch). Trust me, that is actually and inspired choice...
But LIAM... wow... much better than Brian Cox, if you ask me.

Yes, I thought about that too. But I'm not going to hold that against him. He's not going to start spewing Kinsey's sexual stuff during the LW&W.

Still he chose to act in such a movie as such a person, and therefore I can't respect him as much at all.

BigsleepJ has it right: I consider C.S. Lewis the greatest protestant christian writer of all time, and the Narnia series is much more effective in promoting christianity than sorcery :thumb:

The trailer on the site looks awesome! When I read about this movie a year ago I didnt know if it was real or not, but this looks great!! As someone said I hope they dont "water it down" theologically. I'm very excited about it so far just from the trailer :) Looks soooooooooo much better than the BBC version (which I saw 2 'books' of). I'm so excited!
