Golden Sun (When Zelda met Final Fantasy)

Postby Tommy » Tue Jul 12, 2005 7:21 am

A couple weeks ago I made a poll thread about which RPG I should get and I chose Golden Sun thanks to the others. This game is so Zelda meets FF but it is more similar to FF overall. This is what I mean:

The storyline so far isn`t as broad as an FF game, but more like a Zelda game. I mean, after all Golden Sun is for GameBoy Advance so I won`t go harsh.

The dungeons are almost-identicle to Zelda. If you`re a Zelda fan that loves the dungeons then buy this game...oh, and Zelda fans...if you`ve never played FF....

As you walk through a dungeon, the screen will randomly change into battle modes. These are called:

RANDOM ENCOUNTERS!!!!!!!

Ok this is a turnbased battle system that is very addictive and similar to FF. Very fun.

Oh, and so is the sequel better? I wanna give it a try immediately after beating the first.

P.S. I presently just beat the Mercury Lighthouse.

The Dungeons are more puzzle oriented but that's as close to zelda as it got IMO.

Yeah, I know. The battle graphics are nice for GBA. 3D on GBA is always cool.

I haven't played Golden Sun, but it sounds similar to Lufia 2. (SNES) If you haven't played it, I highly recommend it. One of the funnest RPG's I ever played.

I liked this game fairly well. Overall it was enjoyable, though I wished character wouldn't target already-dead monsters. The Djinn system was alright, though in general I left them equipped for the stat boosts. Unfortunately, I haven't played the second game in the series.

O.O I love Golden Sun!! This game is one of my favorite as far as portables go! And yes, you NEED to get the sequel (Golden Sun: The Lost Age) after playing the first game...It's a very direct sequel, and it starts immediately after the first game ends. It's pretty much a neccessity if you want to finish the story line. Anyways, yus~! Great game!

I heard Felix is the main character of Golden Sun 2. I have a booklet for the Lost Age and the main character looksl ike Cloud from FF7. Almost the same hairstyle and everything.
And the Felix in GS1 has long, brown hair......?

So that would probably mean GS3 will never exist. Maybe they`ll make a new one for Gamecube...or maybe Camelot can sign a contract with Sony?...

Eh? The main character in Golden Sun is Isaac, who does look a lot like Cloud. Felix is the mian character in Golden Sun: The Lost Age, and it's the same Felix that you see in Golden Sun...I think you may have gotten something confused. And there's really no need for a third Golden Sun...The Lost Age does a good job of wrapping things up at the end of the story.

No, I OWN a booklet for Golden Sun: The Lost Age and the person in the booklet who gets the most focus looks justl ike Cloud. Is it Isaac?

I assume you mean that you equipped each character with solely the Djinni that corresponds to their innate element, right? Earth for Isaac, Fire for Garret, etc.

I know that that's how I mostly did it, I only swapped Djinni when I needed to use a Psypower like Growth, which was only available with certain classes. As soon as the power was used, I'd swap right back.

To answer your question, Tom, Isaac is the blonde one. Felix has brown hair. Isaac is the main character from the first one and the "good" guy, which is probably why he gets more focus than Felix even though it is a booklet for GS2.

I meant I never used my Djinni in combat (was it called "releasing" them or something like that? What you do if you want to use them for a summon). Though I did play around with swapping elements between characters, in general I did keep them all with one element (most of the time the new techniques didn't seem worth it).

yeah, in like the middle of the game, you meet them, but if you transfer your party early, when you meet them they will be just like your gs1 party, same stats and awesome weapons

In Golden Sun 2, your main party for much of the game is Felix, Jenna, Sheba, and Piers. You join up with the Golden Sun 1 heroes later in the game.

At any rate, they aren't my favorite games by any means, but I enjoyed them well enough. GS2 was better than GS1.

Yes.

I can't think of that many original traditional RPGs for GBA. Most of the other GBA RPGs are ports/remakes or Strategy RPGs.

I'm sorry but Sony will NOT have Golden Sun!!! They get enough PRG's already. What about us loyal Nintendo fans? We need more good RPG's like Golden Sun. And I also heard that Golden Sun is actually a 4 part series. And they most definatly did not wrap up the game in Golden Sun 2. There is so much room for a sequal. Also, Golden Sun 2 was too easy. When I beat the final boss, I though it was like, a warm up for the REAL final boss. It was almost disapointing. But the game made up for this disappointment with excellent gameplay and story. I bought Golden Sun 2 right after came out and I am still awaiting the sequal...

The Straight and Narrow

I chose to walk the straight and narrow road, but one day I lost balance and fell off it. I had fallen onto some sharp rocks and injured myself. There were people passing by who would merely stare at me, and then keep walking. Thoughts of worthlessness entered into my mind, and as I chose to believe the lies, my wounds grew worse. I was so overcome with grief that I nearly gave up... but then a man walked up to me and stopped. Without saying a word, he started to wrap my wounds, he gave me some water, and then lifted me up and embraced me. He then whispered these words into my ear, "I love you my child." As he said those words I could feel all the worthlessness and despair fall away. He then held out his hands. They had huge holes in them. He then said, "Walk with me." I then took his hand and we walked together. Every now and then I would fall from the road, but no matter where I fell, he was always there to pick me up and tell me that He loved me.

It might be a rumor. I forgot where I heard it at, but I remember hearing it. It is hard to believe that they would stop at 2 though :p

Well if it`s for DS, I might as well forget that series. I`m NOT going to buy a DS ever. GBA is so much better IMO. I`m not Nintendo-Bashing. GBA rules and the NRev looks very awesome.

Anyways, It`s not hard to believe they would stop at 2. If you like RPGs, don`t buy a Gamecube. Tales of Symphonia, Paper Mario 2, and Lord Of The Rings: The Third age are from what I`ve seen the only enjoyable RPGs on the GC.

Well, Camelot is making an RPG for the launch of the Revolution. It's speculated by many to be a Golden Sun game.

It's hard to believe that they would allow you to do a clear save after you finish GS2 unless they meant to continue the series.

I believe the term means that it allows you to save following the ending of the game. It uses "clear" in the sense of having cleared the game. Unless there is some other purpose for such a feature, it does indeed hint that it may be possible to use that data in another game.

Yeah, you can play it without finishing the first, but it's more fun if you do. Things make more sense that way, AND you can transfer your character data.
