Hi I just moved from the US to a UK, and have brought my US PS2 over. Can it play UK games? I've already made up for the voltage change requirement. Thanks! ;)

Im afraid it cant, the US plays a games format called NSTC whilst to avoid the europeans buying the games cheaper via import the UK as with the rest of Europe has a game format called PAL. Annoying aint it?

Theres a few things you can do, you can get your PS2 chipped, and theres a few places online sells the chips if your willing to apply them yourself (google has all the answers ;) ). There is another purchasable item called a Swap Disk which can be found online too im sure which you put in before each game and will let you play the UK games. Or of cource last ditch effort buy a ps2 that is chipped for PAL and NSTC usage, usually around 160 quid though :(

It's also worth mentioning that both methods mentioned above are technically:

1. In violation of your license agreement.
2. Illegal.

And let's not venture off topic into the relm of whether it's FAIR or RIGHT to make doing these things illegal, please.

NOTE: INAL: These statements are valid for US customers of the hardware/software. I do not know about European laws.

Its illegal? Gee I had no idea, not that ive ever had my PS2 mod chipped, just they are so easy to find, ive seen them in the "malls" about here....

Perhaps it would be a better option to purchase a PAL working PS2 then Wiggins, my apologies for the bad advice. But ya gotta content with the fact they release games very late over here, and sometimes not at all. :(

I'm getting a mod chip for my PS2, not cause it's cheaper to import games, (jeez it's way more expensive) but because I want to get the good games that are only in Japan. I'm a DDR fan, and well, the DDR mixes in the US just suck.

Why do my hobbies have to be so expensive? :shady:

Decent Region 2 DVD player: $300
Import Anime DVD Straight From Japan: $60
Having the Best Quality, Uncut Anime and the envy of all your friends: Priceless

There are some things money can't buy, for everything else there's anime addiction

- Pete
"Destroy all that which is evil, so that which is good may flourish" - The Boondock Saints

"Man creates dolls in his own image. If God exists, it's possible that we're all just dolls to him." - Evangelion (episode 22)
