EireWolf wrote:Was that question for me, or for CreatureArt? I'll answer anyway, first by mentioning that this was a very ironic question, as I had to look up "pedantic." I don't think I'm pedantic about words, but I don't dumb down my speech unless it's necessary.

It was directed to you, but I quoted that portion as somewhat of an example. I realize that you have an editing mind, so the sentence "Your dumb" probably annoys you. On the other hand, I was curious if this extended to specific words.

An example: "Which do you like better - Summer, Winter or both?"

"Both" is incorrect. You cannot like both summer and winter better than the other season, as "better" implies one being higher than the other. It would have to be phrased "summer, winter or neither," because (in the unlikely event that you actually like both seasons equally) you don't like either one more than the other. I notice this type of thing, and I was curious if you did.

Actually, it isn't even a sentence. :P

I am guessing that you, yourself, are possessed of a certain pedanticness?

Ah, but this is the "ask EireWolf questions" thread, isn't it? I do notice that kind of thing sometimes, but I wasn't thinking about it in the aforementioned instance.

Yay - sweet is good :) .

Hmm... "ask EireWolf questions..." *hurts brain trying to think of one.

Do you prefer to work with oils, acrylic, watercolour or other?

EireWolf wrote:No! I find it refreshing.

Now, here's a question for you... Are you truly happy?

That would depend on your definition of the word "truly." You see...I think everyone is "truly" happy. Some people always have a smile, but others hardly ever smile. That doesn't always mean that they're unhappy. There could be a guy living on the streets, but he could be happier than you and me because he's alive. I'm not sure if that made much sense, but that's what I think. Anyways, to answer your question...I'm so freaking happy it's disgusting, and the more I can make other people happy...that makes me even happier.

Ummm... Polymer clay. As for painting, though... I am afraid of watercolor. It doesn't like me. I haven't done much painting, but if I were a painter I'd probably use oils more; they seem more workable. But when I paint my sculptures I use acrylic. Oils take forever to dry and I'm not quite that patient. :)

Whoot -1000 posts! Of course, it's 1,722 now, and counting... ^_^
Whoot! Another elfwooder! ^_^
Hmm.... questions, questions...
Are you the type of person who feels compelled to edit your post several times before (and occassionally, after) posting, or are you the type of person who thinks something along the lines of 'bleh' and just hits send?
What's more important to you in a book: plot, characters, interesting descriptions, pace, other, or a mix of the previous?

Some more questions:

Would you willingly watch the movie "Au hasard Balthazar"?

Would you rather be turned into a cockroach or get boiled alive in oil?

What's your oppinion on communism?

Photosoph wrote:Are you the type of person who feels compelled to edit your post several times before (and occassionally, after) posting, or are you the type of person who thinks something along the lines of 'bleh' and just hits send?

I'm an editor. It can be a curse, I tell you, a curse. (And of course now I'm wondering if those 2 commas are okay, or if I need to use some other form of punctuation there...) :shake:

What's more important to you in a book: plot, characters, interesting descriptions, pace, other, or a mix of the previous?

Certainly a mix of all of them, but I think characterization is very important in a novel. If the reader doesn't care about the characters, or understand their motivations, there's something wrong. A great writer invokes some kind of feeling in the reader for the characters, whether it be admiration, disgust, sympathy, or even just a feeling that "I would really like that person if I met them in real life."

Rachel wrote:When you have children, will you name all the girls after me?

What is this "when" you speak of? :P

Shadowchild wrote:OOOH! i love elfwood. that place is cool. i like getting pics from there. you are a cool person wolf.

Why, thank you! * shameless plug * I just uploaded a new pic to my Elfwood gallery. GO LOOK NOW! * /shameless plug *

I know that my mom would kill me if i got married as early as you did.

I was 24... Is that really early these days? I will say this: Finish college first! And make sure it's the person God chose for you! A good marriage is well worth the wait. :)

bigsleepj wrote:Would you willingly watch the movie "Au hasard Balthazar"?

Um... Is there a trailer or something? Or at least a translation?

Would you rather be turned into a cockroach or get boiled alive in oil?

I hate roaches. Bring on the boiling oil.

What's your oppinion on communism?

I think it's way overrated. :)

Seriously... It may or may not be a good idea, but the fact is that it does not work. It can not work, unless every person involved were 100% committed to Christ. (See Acts chapter 2 for an example of something similar to perfect communism in action -- and even that didn't last very long.) Human beings are imperfect, and will let greed and lust for power ruin everything.

Rachel: Uh... I dunno. How's that for noncommittal?

You have the same view on communism as I do. ^______^

It can be a curse, I tell you, a curse.

It can be a curse; I tell you, a curse!

Or

It can be a curse --- I tell you, a CURSE!

Or

It can be a curse... I tell you, a curse.

Or

It can be a curse... I tell you... a curse.

Or

It can be a curse - I tell you - a curse.

I think it depends on where you want to place the emphasis. The way you wrote it, Eire, it would seem you didn't want to be too emphatic. *heehee* I kind of like where you capitalize all of the word, "CURSE." XDDD

Anyway, since I'm here I guess I should ask a question. Hmmm... who is your favorite writer on CAA? HAHA, please don't answer that, because if its not me I'll cry. T_T

Anyway, have you placed anything new at your Elfwood Gallery... or ANYWHERE? How is the art coming along? ~_^

And, 24 is a good age to get married and I loved your advice on getting married after college.:thumb:

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

"Au hasard Balthazar" is a movie about the birth, life and death of a donkey named Balthazar who grows up in a loving home only to get sold and abused by several people before dying.

It IS you! You and Donna tie for my favorite. To be totally honest, I haven't read much else in the Writing forum... I just don't have time... But you'd most likely be my fave still. :poke:

Yes!!! Go to my Elfwood gallery! Click here to see my latest creation. He's a dragon snail that I gave to The Silence for her birthday.

And, 24 is a good age to get married and I loved your advice on getting married after college.

 It was a good age for me. Some people might not be ready then. And I've known some people who got married while still in college, but it was hard for them.

Ah. Yes, I did hear about that one. The answer is no, I would not willingly see it. It sounds awful.

I agree, Eirewolf - Watercolours are scary for me, too. They mess up so easily! I like working with eatered down or thick acrylic paints instead.

Which do you enjoy more - science fiction or fantasy? ^_^

Would you run a bulldozer over Hitler if you met him in the street (improbably as it may seem)?

Would you read "War and Peace" for free?

Luckily, this is a free country. You are completely entitled to your faulty opinions. :P

CreatureArt wrote:I like your dragon snails -- they're so cute!

Aw, thanks!

Yeah, me too. Although, to be fair, I have not seriously tried watercolors since I was a wee lass.

Which do you enjoy more - science fiction or fantasy? ^_^

Fantasy. I guess magic is more interesting to me than technology.

Would you run a bulldozer over Hitler if you met him in the street (improbably as it may seem)?

I would be too busy wondering, "What the heck am I doing in this bulldozer??!"

Seriously, though... I don't know. If it was after the Holocaust, probably not, as I would just be guilty of murder and not saving anyone. Vengeance is the Lord's, and He can do it way more thoroughly than I can. If it was before the Holocaust and I had foreknowledge of what he would do... That would be a tougher decision. I would save millions of people, but I would still be personally guilty of murder. However, in that case, one could argue that it was not murder but defense of innocents.

That's a heavy question you asked there.

Would you read "War and Peace" for free?

Eh... Probably not. I did read The Brothers Karamazov because someone said it was good and changed their life... but I don't think I'd willingly wade through War and Peace.

What is the worst music band in your oppinion?

The Rolling Stones. I'm sure there are way worse bands, but I cannot fathom why The Rolling Stones are so popular, even after all these decades. In my opinion, they can't sing worth.... uh, worth a nickel.

mythmaster wrote:Have you ever listened to Evanescence???

Not knowingly. By that I mean: I am so out of the loop in regards to pop music that I don't know whether or not I have heard them. I don't listen to the radio, generally.

Okay, perhaps I may have been a wee bit misguided with my earlier post. As you said, this is a free country.

Ahem. What do you think about the use of punctuation devices...particularly the ellipse, in literature?

It's ellipsis, Rache. Ellipse is a not-quite-circular circle. More like an oval.

I think the ellipsis is a wonderful thing! I use it all the time, myself. Especially when -- to quote a famous person whom I shall not name because I'm making him up -- "it seems necessary... or, perhaps, amusing."

It is arguably a sentence, as you could hold that the intent forms a sentence. But good point.

Yes, I do have a degree of that. However, the creation of new words is not something I care greatly about. Feel free to verbify with adjectively nounage.
