Q. T. is one of my favorite directors. As a film student, I give him tremendous respect for his films and the style he creates.
No, he is not making fun of anime. It is a fact he is actually a fan of anime. Also, if you notice in the credits, Studio IG made the 15 minutes anime sequence in the film.
Kill Bill is a movie that gives respects to about 4 types of movie styles: Chinese Kung Fu films, Anime, Samurai films, and Spaghetti Westerns. (I see some of you aren't reading NewtypeUSA ^_~ there was a Kill Bill article in the Oct. issue)
I personally loved the film. I saw it again 2 days after I initially saw it. And I can't wait for the sequal in February.
I have seen all his films (except Jackie Brown) and loved them all. He states that this is his 4th film, however, he was worked on a number of other films. (Such as Four Rooms)
If you guys loved Pulp Fiction (as I did) you will love Kill Bill. In fact, I caught a bunch of references to Pulp Fiction in Kill Bill. The whole Deadly Viper Assassination Squad was based upon Uma Thurman's Fox Force Five, and the "Square" is back too.
I hear many people's problems with him is his overuse of cuss words. Well, let me ask you this? What have his movies been about? Crime. Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Dust til Dawn, and now Kill Bill. There is a lot of cussing going on in the crime business, especially the nature of crime going on in his films. I'd rather hear correct slang than having certain character say something that is totally out of place.
And just to let ya'll know, I have no problem with cussing whatsoever. I cuss. (I know this topic's been done, but it was closed before I could throw my 2 cents in) How is one word different from another? People say "don't say Sh*t, say poop" Well, if they both mean the SAME thing, how is one work dirtier than the other? If sh*t is bad, than poop should in fact be just as bad.
Movie quote that comes to mind "He called the sh*t 'poop'!" - Adam Sandler in Billy Madison
Society has deemed certain words filthy. Check many years ago. "Darn" was considered foul language. Now it's not.
Peope will say God says to keep your mouth clean. Yes, Don't say his name in vain. I agree. Aside from that, most cuss words are slang. Slang changes over time. I just don't see how one word is filthier than another, when they both mean the same thing. Man creates words. How about cussing in another langauge besides your native language (English I assume for most of you, unless you live in Southern California where it's Spanish lol j/k)
What's stupid is I know a lot of parents who could care less that their children say something 'bad' in another language as long as it's not in English. Just words....
Now that I've completely derailed the topic...(and vented) *checks to see what the original topic was*
Oh, Live action. Yes it is possible. Live action anime seems to be the new wave in cinema. Kite (non-directors cut aka. no hentai), Akira, Sailor Moon, Evangelion (my favorite), Lupin, and Ninja Scroll (from same company who made Mortal Kombat, so it's safe to assume they will butcher the movie) are all officially being made into a live action movie.
If you want to get a glimpse of a successful (in my opinion) anime turned live action, check out the new Live Sailor Moon tv show being aired currently in Japan. It just came out Oct 4th; you can download the first few episodes off BT. I got the first two and I think it does SM justice.
And to back up Live Evangelion, not only are ADV and Gainax working on it, but Weta-Workshop is doing all the special effects! I nearly collapsed with joy when I heard the word. For those of you who don't know, Weta is the same company who did all the effects for Lord of the Rings.
I was **** to see that Eva thread was closed before I could rant about all the crude comments I heard about that show from people who had never even seen it. I've said enough in this post so I'll keep this short. As a film student and filmmaker, I can honestly say that Evangelion is THE most intelligent piece of work I have EVER seen. And believe me, I will bet $ I've seen more movies than you (of all genres). It has the best character development, the most complex story, and extremely indepth philosophy. And no, it is NOT making fun of Christianity. It takes REFERENCES from Christianity, Judaism, Buddism and Shintoism and it creates it's own story. And if you are not mature enough in your walk with God to be able to watch something that isn't COMPLETELY Christian, then maybe you should just throw away your television.
If you don't want to watch Eva, fine. But do me this favor. Go watch 2001: A space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick (another favorite director) and tell me if you can understand it. If you can give me your own theory ('cause there is no one answer) and back up your theory with valid points, I'll consider you intelligent. Most people will be confused and say it sucks because they can't understand it (Baka!). If I would say Eva is based on anything, it would be that movie. And try to stay awake, cause we all know that our A.D.D. generation can't stand to watch something without an explosion every 5 minutes. *sarcasm*
Wow I worked myself up. Ok, let me hear your complaints.
