Nintendo Revolution...

Postby Shia Kyosuka » Sat Jun 18, 2005 12:59 pm

*holds his head*

Aww man.... I got a headache from all of this constant, unwanted worry for the n-rev. Seriously, if it's not one thing it's the other.

First, at E3 That guy said N-Rev will be only 2 to 3 times more powerful than the cube.

Later, I figured out that the N-Rev will support a patented Nintendo Invention that makes the system EXTREMELY power efficient to create graphics as great (if not more great) than the ps3.

But I can't be sure. Yeah, I've seen the official patent, but really, I NEED to see some screenshots to ease my fears.

Then it was the internet feature. He said that the internet gaming will only allow you to play with people you meet in the real world. My response was:

"WHAT?!?!?!?! WHAT?!?!?! WHHHAAAAAAT?!?!?!?!!?!?!?"

But everybody says that they're excited about the internet feature, so maybe there won't be a restriction.

Now I just heard a new official Comment.

PS3 would be like a dinner you only have once a year or twice a year on your anniversary, whereas Xbox 360 would be something you had two or three times a month and Revolution is the kind of great dinner that you have every day at your home". - Hideo Kojima (created Metel Gear)

meaning 1: PS3 is like a food that you really don't like that much, but will eat for special occasions, XBOX360 is a food that you kinda like, but wouldn't eat very often, and N-Rev is a great dinner that you will want to eat every single night!

meaning 2: PS3 is a VERY special food that is so great, it's very expensive and is only for special occasions, XBOX360 is a food that you like and eat every so often, and N-Rev is just like a TV dinner.

Will They PLEASE just show me a screenshot?! I'm going out of my mind!!!
had enough.

In later News:

I'm pretty sure the info I'm gonna release is already out in the Japanese news and Chinese, maybe Western also. But this info I have right now got to me in Feburary this year. So i dont know if you guys have seen it already, i hope not though. Also this info wasn't released by Nintendo themselves, so i might be taking a risk. lol.

You ask about 2-3 times more powerful, what if its 20-30 times more powerful.

Alright, here are some specs from my sources about Revolution. It is still not the complete or "Satisfied" specs, but they are the numbers that would rival xbox 360 and PS3.

Revolution Specs:
CPU: IBM Custom PowerPC 3.5 GHz + 4 internal Power PC G5 cores running at 2.5 GHz each.
L1 cache: 128KB or 256KB
L2 512KB - 1MB
2 Hardware threads per core, 8 total
12 billion dot product operations per second
Theoritical of 10 GHz total + 3 GHz CPU speed

Revolution GPU:
ATI Custom based RN520 core. (The "N" stands for nintendo, and is because the ArtX team is with them)

2 GPU cores (like the nVidia SLI motherboard with two Graphics Chips using ATI's alternative, and will be the first in any console.)

256 MB GDDR4 + 16MB eDRAM (eDRAM is an onboard flash memory - just like the 3 MB on the GameCubes flipper)

Core speed of 600MHz (Rumored at 500 MHz each).

Polygon Performance: 500 million triangles/sec theoritical, average 100 Million/sec

Shader Performance: 48 billion shader operations /sec

24 to 48 way parallel floating-point dynamically scheduled shader pipelines for each core with unified shader architecture.

Revolution memory
512 MB (700 MHz Updated 1T-SRAM)

PPU:
The Revolution will support a PPU chip (Physical Processing Chip). This chip is very new to computer architecture, and it will mainly help in the physics area. It will have 32 MB’s of its own RAM, which will link to the CPU and GPU.

To compare to the usage of physics used in current games, Half Life 2 only used 5 MB’s, Rebel strike used around 1.3 MB’s, and RE4 used 3 MB’s, but this is off main memory, which made performance issues.

Sound:
There will also be a separate sound card that will support only DD 5.1 – DTS 7.1, rumours has it will have 16 MB’s, like the Cube DSP.

----

For comparison - Xbox 360 CPU:
3 symmetrical cores running at 3.2 GHz each
Theoritical of 9.6 GHz + 3.2 GHz CPU speed
2 hardware threads per core; 6 hardware threads total
VMX-128 vector unit per core; three total
128 VMX-128 registers per hardware thread
1 MB L2 cace

Well if this came from Nintendo people obviously they are going to uplift the Rev. Honestly this is my opinion so far:

PS3 > Xbox360
NRev > Xbox360
NRev < Ps3

I know I`m not a mod, but aren`t there like 4 topics on this one system titled the same thing?

Anyways, I think the N5 would`ve been a MUCH better name because if it`s called the Revolution then it should be the last system and it`s also going to be the 5th Nintendo.

Well.... idk.

I've never thought of Rev as a last system name. I just thought of Revolution as a name that says "We will create a revolution for Gaming, Console design, our reputation and more...".

PS3 > Xbox360
NRev > Xbox360
NRev < Ps3

Yeah, This is what I'm thinkin so far too. Because of all of the research I've done, this is what I figured so far.

I just need some in-game screenshots.

I tend to agree, though I'll probably end up buying a Revolution first. Why? Well, the ability to play NES, SNES, and 64 games on it is a big plus...also, Nintendo has confirmed a Smash Bros. title as a release game. I don't think there's going to be any PS3 launch games I particularly want, considering I mostly play RPGs, and RPGs are seldom launch titles. :P

Regardless, NREV will find its niche, and Nintendo wll certainly survive this generation. (Don't forget their stranglehold on the handheld market. PSP may be selling well, but they're nowhere near even denting Nintendo's portable prowess.) Don't forget Revolution's ability to download and play games that were on previous Nintendo systems. That'll probably be a big money-maker if the games have any fees associated with them, because veterans and newcomers will dive at the classics instantly.

EDIT: Also, the "4 times as powerful" or "10 times as powerful" are like campaign promises. They sound nice, but don't mean a whole lot.

I don't really worry about specs that much. I mean, if it has good games (which there's a 99.998% chance it will), I'll get it.

Oh, and I personally believe the N is trying to keep every thing under wraps to protect their ideas. What do I mean? I mean that the N keeps coming up with things that the other systems soon follow.
The N, correct me if I 'm wrong, was the first to come up with analog control and rumble features, and although they weren't the first to come up with a colored handheld, they were the first to make a decent one.

I`m pretty sure the Playstation 1 was the first with analog and rumble features.

Yeah, if it wasn`t for the SNES, NES being able to play dingy I prolly won`t care that much for the NRev.

I ment N-Rev will be better than PS3 if this thing is excecuted right.

The cube mapping is a thing that was implemented in the N-Rev to be able to create graphics that are so real that they will go over the graphics of PS3. That would be a revolution itself.

And Square Enix also said they like what can be done with the N-Rev. So that may be a clue of how good the n-rev is. And you know how Square is. They like to create the greatest graphics of the current time and they picked N-Rev.

So... Maybe it will be the best. *sigh*

I gonna go beat my head up against a wall now.

Feh. I do't care which console is better. In my opinion, when consoles compete, gamers win either way. But I am stoked there's going to be a next-gen Smash Bros. for the Revolution, and the fact you're going to be able to download any NES, SNES, and N64...so sw33t...

what im worried about is if you want old nintendo games... you'll have to buy it to download.... or have some weird "free coupon" thing

i say if you already have the game... then you should beable to downlaod it for free or something...

and im guessing the games you can download are all nintendo-made games... so i doubt there will be any FF6 on the revolution

But, hey, at least we'll be able to play Earthbound legally and for less than 80 bucks on Ebay.

Maybe not. You never know. There's still so much we don't know about the Rev, that we could be given more of a surprise than anyone expected.
