Anyone playing eleven?
I just got it tonight (and a new video card- YAY!).
So far, I'm at 3 hours and counting on the installation/updates/registration.
Haven't even gotten into it yet...
BUT when I do, I hope to meet some of you there?

I heard something about them implementing airship combat in the future, if that's really good, then I might. Though for right now, it's a no.

Ug. If everyone boycotted this, it might send a message to the game makers. Paying for monthly play is annoying.

Yeah, I heard that was a major problem with the game. They say the game requires a 56k or up, but how can a 56k survive those updates? Isn't it true that it requires six gigs. of hard disk space? That's alot. I believe this is the reason why the reviews have been delayed. I also heard, that the game automatically chooses your server, but you can get a pass to tranfer between 'em.

BTW, make such to tell us what you think of the gameplay. Very curious of how this games gonna turn out.

Yeah, my hd was about 2/3rds empty last night before the install. Now, I've only got about 1/3rd left open.
The update lasted so long, i fell asleep during it.
I suppose the updates will go faster later on, just a lot of people just getting the game and getting into it in the first few days since the release.
As far as the server bit, it totally reeks, from what i hear.
You have to go kill stuff with your character to get money to purchase a "world pass", which can then be used to start a brand new character on the server a friend plays on.
Brand-new.
That's right, you cannot transfer your buff little tarutaru monk, or whatever, over to play with your pals.
Weakness.
nevertheless, I will see what it's like in a little bit (just got home, have to eat)...

OKAY!
After having put my first few hours into this thing so many have fallen prey to- this MMORPG phenom- i can honestly say how thrilled i was once i got into it.
I all actuallity, i was very hesitant at first, but most of the folks i met were just as green as i was, so it kindof worked out.
I had a group offer to let me in their party for awhile, so i could get some easy exp, but i also heard you should really play by yourself for the first 10 levels or so. I tend to agree with that...
... on a strictly playing level. On a personal note, i loved the comeraderie (however synthetic), and the sense of "wow, that was fun! thanks for the help! see you tomorrow" kind of community...
all in all, i think i'm hooked.
but unlike some other people who stay up all hours and play non-stop with no sense of hygene or anything else, i need to sleep, and go to work tomorrow, so i can pay actual bills.
it remains to be see if i can justify one for continue play on this new fascination of mine, after the trial month is over...

Anyone who gets this and wants to hook up on Valefor- pm me.
Nite all....

It's 12.65, or .68 a month, from what I remember during the setup.
Comes with a month free, to boot.
I am so very addicted to this game now... but have yet to remember the true priorities in life.
Speaking of which, I'm off to worship practice!

The game looks awesome, and when it comes out in Europe, I will almost certainly be getting it. I like the fact that they're putting everyone together instead of regionalizing -- they applied a japanese/english translate tool to make this possible. How well does that work, by the way?

Also, does having Tetra Master help you in the main game at all?

I really wanna play it but I can't afford the monthly payments. I'm kinda dissappointed because it seems to me that it shouldn't be part of the series. (Just FF Online)

Tetra Master seems to be a stand-alone thing. It's a bit confusing at first, but there are a TON of japanese players whipping all the newbie americans in it.
The japanese-english translation works automatically, as long as you type specific phrases, or you can can start a sentence (i.e. "Who...", or "What..."), press Tab, and a slide menu appears, with which you can piece together a variety of phrases to form a sentence, which is then translated automatically.

Well, I haven't gotten to play it yet, but I got to watch my bro playing it as a beta tester this summer! It looks soooooo awesome!
I can't wait to play it myself. It was really detailed and lots to do and the fact that you're playing with real people is soo cool . . .

*bump*
old topic. sorry. but i just had to revive it.

I've been playing this game since the day it was released in NA.

I feel I should clear up some of the questions concerning the cost of the game per month:

) Regular fee is 13.95/mo for one character.
) Additional characters are 1.00 each per month.
) Tetra master is 1.00 per month.
) Your first month is free.
) Billing occurs on the 1st of every month.
) The gap between the end of your first free month, and the beginning of the next billing cycle, is paid a prorated fee, or "proportional" to what you would pay for an entire month. i.e. there are only a couple days gap between the end of my free trial and the 1st of the next month, so I pay only 1.28 for those few days.

I moved to this game from the notorious ...dare I say it... Ragnarok Online. :bang: I played that game for about 3 years before I finally broke the addiction. It was only fun for about the first couple months, during the very early stages of beta testing. After that it was purely addiction. STAY AWAY FROM THAT GAME AT ALL COSTS!!

...ahem. That brings me to the #1 reason why I like FFXI. It's non-addictive in nature. (Well, it is non-addictive to me at least.) Congratulations Square-Enix, you've managed to create an immersive MMO game that is non-addictive, and has more substance than just item acquisition and leveling up. I didn't think it could be done. I can play it and enjoy it far more than I ever enjoyed Ragnarok, yet I don't find myself killing an entire day playing it. This game is truly a jewel amongst common stones, in an age of gaming when we are bombarded with addictive Asian MMO games one after another.

As for me, I play an Elvaan whitemage based in Windurst. (although I do alot of travelling :dizzy: ) If anyone else is playing on Quetzalcoatl, let me know. :thumb: Maybe we can hook up sometime. My character name is Korelle, which is nearly backwards from my old Ragnarok name. (Yes, it's in my signiature.. I couldn't change it because photoshop is broke and my CD is packed up in a box somewhere :P )

Oh, yeah. Me. I'm just a person. I guess I should see if there's an introductions board around here. :jump:

By the way, this forum has the awesomest smilies I've ever seen. I mean, come on, you can't beat this one:

About FFXI and us tortured Europeans, I found a .nl FF11 forum a while back (and succesfully lost the bookmark, which is a shame). The forum was a community of Europeans who were playing the imported American version of FF11. I'm seriously considering getting the game and registering it on my dad's address (he lives in the US), but playing it in the UK.

Quite a few people are doing the import thing already. The only concern is that they will be able to check your location by IP. However, apparently nobody has been thrown off the network for that yet, so things seem pretty safe in that department.

you wouldn't want to play offline anyways.
most of the main set of missions are far too difficult to be carried out by a single person, you'd need a party.
