I can't draw worth a flip, but my kids are quite the artists. I hope you don't mind looking over their drawings. My daughter works with prismacolors more these days, but my son prefers the sketches.

Pic #1: Very nice! Good use of colors, very nice and bright. The hair - very shiny...^^ Also good use of shading. You may want to bring up with her darkening the pupils of the eyes for a little added depth, plus it makes the eyes sparkle more when you put the highlights on. Also, depending on the style she's going for, she might try making the ears a little larger and fit a little closer to the head (in this instance, they would probably disappear behind the hair). However, since ear style varies WILDLY from style to style, it probably isn't an issue.
Pic #2: Also nice! She shows good potential with expressions. The happy face is so kawaii...^^ Something I've found that helps me with expression is to make the irises of the eyes smaller; instead of the "column" of iris that a lot of artists use (which has a tendency to rob the eyes of expression in my case), use a rounder shape, like a real eye (unless they have REALLY huge eyes, in which case an oval works better...^^ )
Pic #3: Another good one! ^^ He looks very intense. Good lines on the shirt's collar; they have a lot of dimension. The eyes have a good shape and the eyebrows are positioned very well. The shoulders might be just a little low though (resulting in a neck that's just a hair too long).
Although it doesn't seem like it ought to be this way, studying a real human form goes miles in drawing anime, so you might have them study real human forms when they're working on their skills. When I was their age, I used catalogs a lot to get form, clothing folds, etc more accurate, even though I wasn't drawing anime back then. Those skills I learned drawing realism oddly enough did translate, plus it gives lots of opportunity for other kinds of drawings and makes an artist -very- versatile.

Very very good! your kids are doing great! That last colored pic is really nice! Ink pretty much covered everything I would have said and more the only thing I can think of that it need is an iris there is no real center to the eye since it is all just one color with nothing to distinguish the center(iris) of the eye. I really like the shiny hair though

My son might have an issue with being called "the boy."
Joshua-kun will be 14 at the end of this month. He will probably never join this board. He's too busy with other things, like his LAN clan, FFXI, and having friends over. He is a cutey though, according to my daughter's friends. How old are you?

My son is a big gamer. He's uber friendly and kind, really honorable young man and knows all the gamers around this area. Because of this he's always getting freebies and betas, t-shirts, not yet released games and other stuff. One of his best buds is the asst. man. at the GameStop. The guys at the local game rental place let him go behind the desk and play their preview copies and then let him take them home. He's just like that, people just kind of draw to him.
